  1. Is this still the recommended dosage?

Yes. That's still the recommmeded dosage.

if one's hair would normally grow on average about 1/2 inch per month, how fast does your hair grow while taking MSM? Any feedback from those taking MSM or studies that have measured speed of hair growth would be much appreciated.

While on MSM, I couldn't say that I had an increased rate of hair growth.

    Don't know about any studies.

  2. Spex,

What do you mean by this:

Growth into scars though generally can really help dilute a strip scar down.
    ?

Is it that with reasonable vascularity within the scar, the FUE'ed grafts, can somehow reduce the fibrosis of the scar itself by the FUE'ed follicle itself "absorbing" the scar tissue?

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Thanks.

  3. considering the scar is right where I lay my head on my pillow each night?

Your surgeon should have given you a neck pillow (U-shaped pillow) that fits at the back of the neck. This would relieve pressure on the excision zone at the back of the head.

BTW, it was not difficult for me (sleeping on the back of the head). But this depends on your threshold of pain level, which is high for me. I didn't take any painkillers after my surgery; only the anaesthetic during the operation it self.

  4. Happened to me a couple of times (only). Usually, after my scalp is wet and the minoxidil can easily diffuse into the tissue, I noticed it. A bit of faintness on standing too.

Don't worry about it, unless it's a regular thing for you.

  5. Since HT's are expensive and I want to avoid having to get another one in like 5 years after I have lost the remaining hair that is thinning now, can I just shave off all the hair and maybe see if they could just remove the follicles of the thin hair and just get a Mega HT(or whatever they are called)? I would rather just have all of it done at once if this is possible?

Dude!!! You need to take some time and educate yourself properly, before making any "unsophisticated" comments, let alone any regrettable decisions.

  6. Stopping and starting finasteride is a bad idea.

My question is what should be my course of action now ? I am scared to take finasteride again. Should I try Minoxidil ? What would you guys do ? I dont want a receded hairline.

If you DO have MPB you have to start on and stay on finasteride for the rest of your life.

By the way, I visited Dr Rassman in LA, in May, 2009. He looked at my hair for a minute or two and concluded that I am not balding.

At age 28, you are supposed to have a maturing of your hair, and perhaps this is what he meant.

You need to post the pictures for us.

but their size is exceedng the limit of attachment size of the message. Any idea on how can I post pics ? Thanks!!

Reduce the size of the photos with a photo editor.

  7. without the protective coating there is the risk of transcutaneous absorption

True. But more as a contraindication for pregnant women.

when the pill is formulated the active ingredient is not evenly distributed throughout the pill.

Perhaps, but I seriously doubt it.

Dividing the pill in quarters does not mean proper dosing.

Only if you take finasteride, occassionally. But you are supposed to administer finasteride continously and consistently for the rest of you life. So there is a cumulative effect, that becomes apparent after 3 months for initiation.

For example, it is possible to be getting 4mg on day 1, 0 on day2 & 3 and then 1mg on day 4.

Don't get your mind twisted around numbers.

  8. there has been a non-conclusive link between the use of dutasteride and breast cancer in men

Can you post the preliminary studies?

Also with the very long half life (6 weeks) should we only take one tablet every few weeks?

I don't think lowering your exposure is going to reduce the risk of breast cancer. What you can do is not consume the medication whatsoever.

  9. Is it too late for someone over 50 to see any positive results ?

No. Though, because of your more "advanced" age, your hair may re-grow slower, than someone who is younger, and on dutasteride.

What would be the reality and benefits to an nw5 over fifty ?

I consume dutasteride, but I am not over 50, but all things being equal, Dutasteride on its own has greater benefits than finasteride.

Is it true it may regrow hair that was lost many years ago ?

No. Once your hair follicles have minituarized to a certain point, no hair can re-grow from that follicle. It has to do with a certain kind of fibrosis (scarring) that takes place with this structure.

What other considerations are there ?

    Any seious negatives ?

All the negative side-effects of finasteride, except with a certain magnification factor.

  10. I posted a thread like this a while aback.

    You can find it here:

I used topical fluridil on my hairline for about 6-8 months.

This time frame is insufficient for a complete validation, but there are initial growth indicators with other products like minoxidil and finasteride that occur by the 3 month mark from initial use. I did not see such any indicators for fluridil, but I did not use it in isolation either. So my comments on it cannot be entirely fair.

  11. I use it, but in conjunction with minoxidil. I believe the intention of the application is to be a supplement to minoxidil, as Dr. Lee recommended, using the cream, 20-30 minutes after applying minoxidil. Spiro on its own does not "force" hair to grow like minoxidil, it is supposed to inhibit DHT in the scalp, and prevent binding of DHT to androgen receptors on the hair follicles. (Be sure to read up on it, it's been a long time since I studied it.)

  12. Is/was thier materal grandfather bald or thin on top?

Gene dominance or recession can come from either paternal or maternal branch.

    Father of 2,

I must commend you on your stance, in that you seem to be open minded about the issue (about the administration of medication) to curb the "problem". A lot of parents hide their heads in the sand and say to their kids, that they look beautiful and nothing is wrong with them, etc. etc.

THE WORST THING A FAMILY MEMBER CAN DO, IS NOT EMPATHIZE AND SYMPATHIZE WITH WHAT ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER IS EXPERIENCING.

You have received good advice against the use of the laser comb. Take it.

Your kids are young enough to pursue medication only, until (if they so determine) that the need surgical intervention.(after due diligent research into the scope and limitations of surgery).

  13. ultimate,

I wanted to find out how difficult it is to close scars on skulp shapes like mine as shown below.

Nothing is wrong with ythe shape of your skull.

Im wondering once i have a scar at the back if it will stretch due to tension (because of the shape of the skulp).

The elasticity of your scalp is an attribute in itself, and has nothing to do with the shape of your skull. Someone with a small head can have a scar that can stretch more than someone with a large skull. It has to do with how much tissue is excised and the tension of the closure.
