  1. notgoingtogobald, I kindof style my hair forward with surf wax; hair is probably about an inch long, pushing it forward helps with the illusion of density.
  2. never heard of him.....I would check out the coalition docs on this site
  3. at 4 weeks you would have to surgically remove the grafts to get them out of your scalp; you need to be more aggressive and use your fingertips to massage the reciepent area and work the scabs off; don't pick at them but massage them as when you wash your hair; also you can definitely use shower pressure on the grafts now without hurting them; I think sometimes we tend to be too careful with the grafts; after 10 days those grafts are solid
  4. I am a competitive bodybuilder and have been on propecia for over 6 years; i don't feel it has hampered my results in the gym at all;
  5. Bill, hairbank, diamond, thanks for the comments; that was at the Western Michigan Bodybuilding Championships last year; i weighed in at around 165; I;m 5'9"; I won the middle weight class but lost in the overall to the heavyweight dude; obviously I don't maintain that condition year round, it is unhealthy; I was probably around 5% bodyfat; I try to maintain around 10% in the offseason; a good healthy weight; I train 4-5 days a week; if anybody has any questions let me know; it is cool to know that you guys on this forum are into working out and fitness!
  6. I would plan on waiting till next year even if you lose any down payment you put down; spend the next year researching on this forum; check out the coalition docs on this site; are you on propecia? that is the first step in a hair restoration plan; I don't even think bosley himself does surgergies, don't know that for fact; bosleys results are inconsistent; a ht is a huge decision; you will live with the results for the rest of your life so take your time and research and ask questions.
  7. since they both have finasteride and you are spliting the proscar pill in 1/4's to get approx. 1mg of finasteride per/day the side effects will be identical; I myself have not experienced any side effects.
  8. hairhead, i've been on propecia over 6 years now and i've pretty much been able to maintain my hair in the front--hairline maybe slipped a little; but for the most part it has stabalized my hairloss in the front and back
  9. hairhair, at such a young age it is hard to predict what your future hairloss pattern will be; if you get a HT at 22 with a "22-year olds hairline" you would be committed to future surgeries down the road if the hair behind the transplanted hair reecedes; then you may run out of donor and be left with an unnatural look; it sounds like from your post that you want an adolescdnt hairline; at your age that is very risky; I recommend getting on propecia/proscar (finasteride) and see if your hairloss stabalizes; then re-evaluate in a few years; if your hairloss has stabalized then you would probably be OK to get a HT but be conservative with a more mature hairline;
  10. proscar and propecia both contain finasteride: one proscar tablet=5mg finasteride one propecia tab=1mg finsasteride Therefore by splitting the proscar into 1/4's you achieve approximately 1 mg of finasteride, the equivalent of taking propecia; note: it is difficult to split a proscar tab into 1/5's so people usually just split it into 1/4's
  11. gangster, the only two products clincally proven to regrow hair are Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil);
  12. mute, you should be able to get it from a doc script, I would think; also there are some reputable online sites too.
  13. skysurf, I did a typo, i meant that i've been ON propecia for 6+ years; also there is a drug called lunesta that is suppose to be "non=habit forming"; may be worth a try; talk to your doc
  14. IMO, I would go a little more conservative; I would like to see it angle back on each side at the temples instead of straight. however, I have seen many Dr. Rahal pics and he gives a hairline placement to patients your age or younger and it looks great; i guess i'm concerned as far as long term, future donor availability etc...
  15. skysurf, I have been of propecia for about 6 years; I have also had insomnia; however, I do not feel it was caused by propecia; I worked differant shifts in my job, stress etc... First, try make sure you are sleeping on a regular schedule; try to go to bed and get up at about the same time each day; I do take ambien, a prescription sleep aid occassionally, but you can't take too often or your body gets used to to it and its effectiveness is less; also, no caffeine up to 8 hours before bedtime; caffeine has a half life of 4 hours, so it can stay in your system and prevent a good sleep; I would not change your dosage of propecia; I do not feel it is related to insomnia.
  16. I have never myself, or ever heard of anyone appying it to the "safe" areas on the sides and back of the head that are not sensitive to dht; you would have to use a ton to cover that much area; Yes, I would apply it from the hairline to the vertex--the areas of typical MPB; use 1 ml per application. that price seems awfully high, especially if it isn't foam; have you checked ebay for prices; I would recommend generic, if you are going to use the liquid.
  17. you may just be developing a mature hairline... first, I would recommend finasteride (propecia, proscar); if you are in the early stages of MBP and have a lot of hair, which it sounds like you do, finasteride can be very effective; it may help you maintain what you have and maybe regrow some hair; you can get proscar and cut it into quarters and it is much cheaper than propecia; at your age and the minimal loss that it sounds like you have, I would not recommend a HT; you don't know how much hairloss you are destined to have at such a young age; if you try to "fill-in" to maintain an adolescent hairline, it will not look age appropriate as you get older and you will run out of donor hair to continue to fill in as the hair reecedes. So in summary, give finasteride a try and wait a few years to see how your hairloss is progressing; also, pics might help in evaluating your situation.
  18. I hope they do not still do this stuff today.....it is truely a "butchering" more so than any bad HT;
  19. been taking for over 6 years; maintained hairline, slight regrowth/thickening at the crown;
  20. I'll try to answer some of your questions: Well, if it is the foam, it will specifically say that on the packaging, so I would assume it is the liquid; I'm not sure what Australian currency is as far as relation to the dollar; but I use to buy the generic version at Walmart for about 25$ for 3 months supply; Foam doesn't come in generic yet, but if you want to save money and you don't mind the liquid, I would go generic; The foam and liquid both contain minoxidil; the foam is not as messy to apply; easier to use; the effectiveness of each is equivalent; You need to apply it twice a day consistently to benefit; results usually take four to six months to see; and you must continue it for life or any hair you gained or maintained due to minoxidil will be lost very quicly; In the studies they claim it is only effective at the vertex area of the scalp; however, many people claim it is effective at the frontal area; but it is generally more effective at the vertex than the hairline area; so apply it in the balding areas; some people say that they maintain their hair applying it once a day; but all of the studies were done with applying it twice a day; that appears to be the most effective way to use it; I think every second day would be ineffective; you apply it in the morning and before retiring; after you apply rogaine, I think you need to wait 10-15 minutes for it to soak in your scalp and dry before applying gel, mousse, etc; also, it is not recommended to blowdry your hair after applying; do not get your scalp wet after applying or it could dillute the minoxidil; I think it is easier and less messy to apply if your hair is shorter but it is not a requirement; you need to get the minoxidil onto your scalp; no it wont hurt your hair, but it is a waste if it doesn't get onto the scalp; In summary, I only take propecia, I tried rogaine, but didn't like the messy regimen; I haven't tried the foam, but I heard it is much easier to apply and less messy; I feel that propecia should be the foundation of a hairloss prevention regimen, and rogaine can be added for a marginal beneift; importantly, if you discontinue rogaine, the hair maintained/grown from it will be lost rather quickly
  21. I've seen pictures on the net of scalp flap procedures being done; it is downright barbaric; I can't believe they are even being performed today;
  22. yes, the doc places the grafts in the proper angle/direction depending on your unique characteristics; so yes, the doc has control on the direction/angle of the grafts; I did a search on Dr. Khan and it appears she doesn't have the greatest rep...don't know much about her though; care to share any pics
  23. perfectly normal; that is a good sign that "stuff" is happenning;in my experiences with zits, i just left them alone and let nature takes its course; just keep the area clean; i don't think the cream would hurt anything per say, but I didn't worry too much about them cosmetically because I could hide them with my native hair.
  24. congrats; Dr. Gabel is a recommended doc on this site and perfroms good work; It would be great if we could see your pics.
  25. actually, you will save more by cutting it into 1/4's; this averages out to 1.25 mg, which is approximately the equivalent of 1 mg of Propecia; studies have shown that taking more than 1 mg/day is no more effective than 1 mg/day; so in summary, 2.5 mg/day will not be superior; save more money by cutting the Proscar into 1/4's--taking 1/4 per day.
