  1. Just got back from Dr. Tessler and Aronovitz in the Detroit area--had surgery the 23rd; 1100 grafts to add more density; everything went smooth--was there about 6 hours; staff was courteous and friendly; anybody in the Michigan area contemplating surgery should check them out;
  2. i echo mp96; very ethical; may err on the conservative side--which is not a bad thing at all;
  3. Curious what many of the members do for suture removal considering most travel out of state for their ht; Do they have a local doc remove them, etc....I can't imagine traveling back to your HT doc to have them remove the sutures 2 weeks later considering many travel by plane to get to their ht doc......thanks for they help!
  4. Has anybody been to Dr. Holt's clinic in GR? He used to work for MHR in Grand Rapids, MI but this past spring he left MHR and started his own private practice.
  5. i was planning on getting a ht done in April; add more density and temple points (1200 grafts); i have had 2 ht's before; however, this time im getting the temple points reconstructed; thus, i'm worried if 1 week off is enough time to heal where i can look somewhat normal when i return to work a week later; temple points appear to be harder to conceal w/ native hair.
  6. Jim, a ht is a MAJOR decision; i was just looking at a repair session on this site a couple days ago; this guy had went to a clinic that disfigured him literally--gave him actual plugs and placed very low on the hailine and temples; Hasson and Wong repaired him and his hair looks great now but he lived w/ those plugs for a long time; check it out under the "photos by leading Hair Restoration Clinics section" on this site; if that doesn't change ur mind i don't know what will. your donor hair is precious and finite so it must be used wisely; if ur not happy w/ the results I guarantee you, you will be willing to travel to the other side of the world to get it repaired. so please take 6 months and research, check this site out, talk to recommended docs on this site before making a decision......
  7. protein powder will have absoloutely no effect on ur hair loss; neither will creatine, glutamine etc. obviously steroids and steroid derivates will because they effect ur hormone/testosterone levels.
  8. i'm looking at having a small procedure 1000-1200 with a coalition doc to add more density; will not be lowering the hairline just adding more density; if i had the procedure on a friday, could i return to work on tuesday without it looking detectable; my hair is an inch long or so, so the suture line will not be an issue as far as visibility; worried about the receipent area; i do have a lot of native hair to help camoflage the receipent area
  9. Thanks everybody for the advice I'll check w/ the clinic on this issue; Dr. Aronovitz
  10. would that be ok; don't want to get into trouble or anything; worse case i could wait til summer to have the surgery
  11. i had a surgery scheduled for december w a coaltion doc; i have a few weeks off during that time (work in public school. just got papers for jury duty during a 3-week period that is during the same time as my surgery date; i have to call the evening before to see if they need me etc. if im on a case and it settles my obligation is completed and i'm done serving; however, this might make it hard to committ to my surgery; i'm only 2 hours from the doc......
  12. imo, in the front shot, something looks off; a hairline that low in the center is kinda rare for a guy in his mid 40's; also, usually when you see a hairline that low, it is much more dense; I'm not trying to be critical of the doc; sounds like the patient requested this to hide a scar he had there; i guess i didn't think the scar was that bad IMO. Also I need to take into consideration that maybe the plan was to add density to that center front area of the hairline in the next session--the post mentioned a scheduled future session. 2600 is not a large amount of grafts, especially when bringing the hairline that low in the center. Maybe there was a reason for such a low amount of grafts--cost, scalp laxity, donor density...I hope this doesn't sound critical, but that front shot screams HT to me; sorry if this offends anybody.
  13. vish, Do you mind sharing pics of your HT experience (pre-op/post-op)? there seems to be a lot of young members on this site (early 20's)who contemplate getting a HT; so maybe your experience can give them a perspective--someone they can relate to.
  14. what's up, the answer to the question is very unique to each individusl; How much native hair do you have left on top to help camoflage? hair thickness, skin/hair contrast, degress of scaring, etc.. if you could post pics, that would help members assess your situation. guesing maybe an inch or so will provide some good coverage.
  15. 7 months is still early in the game; however you should notice some noticable growth by 7 months post-op; as a general rule, you should have over 50% of your final result by now; are you on finasteride to slow/prevent future loss? It is possible that you have lost some native hair in the last 7 months due to MPB progressing; thus, the net gain in hair is miniscule. As HairDew mentioned, pics would help members on this site to assess the situation.
  16. do not go there! spend 6-12 months researching on this site; a HT is a huge decision; do not let location be a deciding factor on where you go to get your HT--you will travel to the other end of the earth to get it repaired; there are coalition and recommended docs on this site that have a track record of providing high quality results. also, are you on meds? meds are a prerequisite to getting a HT--you want to stabalize your hair loss and maintain as much native hair as possible.
  17. just to be safe i would wait a couple weeks; that will give plenty of time for the grafts to be secured and for most of the scabbing to be gone. I would talk to your doc just to make sure. i waited about two weeks after mine before i got a haircut.
  18. the grafts are well secured by now and you would to surgically remove them to get them out of your scalp; the donor area is obviusly very sensitive right now so tell the hairdresser to be carefu;/gentle in that area; should be fine
  19. i've been on avodart for over 2.5 years and i feel it is working better than propecia at stabalizing my h MPB; i felt i was slipping a little with propecia after 5 years; no sides either;
  20. no worries at 6months post-op as far as damaging/harming the grafts; just be careful though cause there is "new tissue," if you will, that has never been exposed to the sun so it will be sensitive; i would apply sunscreen in the grafted area to prevent sunburn
  21. from what i understand finasteride has a short half life; thus, everyother day would not be as effective as taking it every day; however, you would still get benefits from everyother day; but everyday would give more benefit (benefit being lower DHT levels; if you have mild/less agrresive MPB then everyother day might suffice;
  22. I would cancel your appointment with bosley; just do a search of bosley on this site and you will see that there are a lot people who have had bad experience with bosley; i would recomment that you take your time and research using this site; check out some of the coalition docs on this site; they have a proven track record of good results; with bosley the results are hit and miss; you only have one scalp and only so much donor hair so you want to get it right;
  23. jojo, it's best to wait at least one year after a HT before proceeding with the next; first, it takes at least a full year to see the full results of the ht; at 6 months, yor are only at 50% of your final results; thus, it is too early to assess; 2nd, it takes time for your scalp laxity to return; this will allow the doctor to safely take a donor strip. there are exceptions, but a general rule is to wait one year.
  24. at 5 months you have not even achieved 50% of the final density; as a general rule, at 6 months you have achieved 50% of the final results; you should not evaluate the final results until 1 year; the HT can still mature after 1 year; possible not to reach full maturity until 16-18 months.
  25. orlando, to be honest, I wouldn't waste your time; use that time to research on this site instead--the time spent would be of more benefit to you;
