  1. I don't know levels that well, but i suspect ill end up a N6. I have been buzzing my hair 1 at the sides and two on top. Yes I like older women, last woman I hooked up with was 45, but couldn't have a serious relationship with somone that old as I eventually want to get married and have kids etc! A transplant is not for me really, I have accepted my hair loss and just learnt to deal with it- but this end product is getting me down!
  2. A little background, I have been losing my hair since I was 18, im now 27.For years I tried to cover it up and it ruined my life, I was scared to go out in the wind or rain, constantly needed to check if the gel was holding, would never sleep at friends etc it affected my life in so many negative ways. I eventually built up the courage and just buzzed it off at the age of 25, it was great, best thing i could have done, i got a few comments from my friends but in generally they have been great and i got my freedom back. I think I look quite good, I suppose I have gone from an 7 or 8/10 to a 5 or 6 out of 10 looks wise. This is where my problem is really, I used to get women fall for me all the time, I never had to ask girls out because they would come to me-my hair was probably my defining feature. I then met an amazing woman and spent four years with her, in that time my hair disappeared really. We broke up 2 1/2 years ago. I have just started to feel like i want to start dating again, but it's not like before, there seems to be very little interest in bars and online. I'm finding it very hard, the only thing that has changed about me is my hair, so this must be why it's so hard, no other variables have changed. I used to see bald guys with really hot girls and think, ooo if they have, then i can, but thinking about it, if you date a girl when you have hair, it is highly unlikely four years down the line the girl would dump you because you lose it-but the question is, would she ever have dated that person if he had no hair to begin with? I'd appreciate any advice from anyone who has been in my shoes because at the moment i feel like i am going to be dieing alone surrounded by cats! lol I also have massive regrets over how when i had a full set of hair and during the early stages of loss i had such little confidence in my looks, so one bit of advice I can give back to anyone reading this is that when you first start losing, please don't obsess. with most people it is a long process and people won't notice for years, grow your fringe etc slightly longer, get meds if you want and forget about it and enjoy life!
  3. I think people use it as a veiled dig at you, because they know its accepted and they know if you react your bring more attention to it, something you dont want to do, so normally you have two options, laugh it off or keep quiet and change the subject. An example; i was in the pub and a fat girl, started mentioning a friend of mines thin hair, saying you are losing etc; as it is generally considered in society that losing your hair makes you less appealing i cant see how this isn't a direct dig, infront of many of our friends! Well anyway he took the laugh it off option and others in the group laughed and made some fun too. Now what if when she said that, he said, well your putting on the pounds arn't you fatty! I think the people in our group would have felt he was extremely out of line....BUT WHY? to me they are both the same, why would any balding man not be offended when its mentioned, as why would any fat person not be offended when its mentioned in public to embaress them. I generally go with the laugh it off option, but have lost my temper with close friends and confronted them about it! I prefer the laugh it off option as it makes them feel you are not bothered!
  4. Hi the question is in the title. Has anyone who is just using saw palemtto had any success with this product? any side effects, answers from users would be much appreciated. additionally, people from the UK who use this, where do they buy it from/how much do they use? Many Thanks
  5. I ended up getting alot of very sore head sores/spots, i also had heart palpatations so thought id quit lol
  6. Hi guys, I suffer with a thyroid disorder and also MPB. I was just wondering though, if you have throid problems and they make you lose your hair, would this loss be all over or in the MPB pattern? I say this because my hairloss from 18 to 23/24 was steady, but has totally desimated my hair in the last two years, and I am just looking for answers really. Many Thanks.
  7. I suppose its because there is alot of stress/hassle involved in keeping thinning hair, you have to constantly worry about wind, rain sports etc. Also when you get to a certain degree off loss at such a young age, its not really socially acceptable to have a horseshoe type hairstyle that men can pull off in there 50's etc! Think the shaven look is the best of two evils in these circumstances!
  8. Thanks again for the advice guys, much appreciated. I did buzz my hair to a one grade, and i thought it looked ok, my close family said it looked alright too. My problem was that, it sounds silly, but i didnt want anyone else to see me like it because i knew there would be comments, so i ended up being a hermit for 3 months until it was like a 4/5 and i could style over my thinning areas. I saw my best friend when it was a 2/3 and he didnt make any real comments but got the feeling he didnt think it suited me. Another odd feeling about shaving it all off is the fact that i would not care about people who never have seen me with hair seeing me because they would know no difference; but would feel almost embarressed if i saw a person who was in my class at school for instance on the train to work! One of the oddest things about how i feel about hairloss is the fact that in myself i have kind of just accepted it and understand there are worse things that can happen, what i struggle with are the remarks by others and the fact that even close friends can't seem to cope with the change. Its odd that people feel that they can make offensive remarks about my appearance, but it is seen as totally inappropriate to shout out in a pub, 'O my havent you got fat', or 'I didnt remember your nose being so big', this is totally unacceptable, but saying 'o your going bald' and almost taking pleasure out of it is not frowned upon!!!!! I did confront a friend about this once, on holiday he took a picture of me and almost took pleasure in the fact that it was bad lighting and made me nearly look bald, i lost my temper and said in all the years we have been friends i have never once said anything offensive about your weight problem, and i think he could see how it had pissd me off and that actually it was wrong to say, its just odd it took me losing my temper and saying the obvious for him to realise! Not said anything since though lol
  9. Thanks for the reply guys. I have tried rogaine, the liquid really irritated my skin, i also tried the foam but that also irritated the skin, both caused big deep spots on my scalp. I do have really sensitive skin. I do have thyroid issues, but my blood tests come back in the normal range, i am currently on 150mg levothyroxine a day. I have also tried finasteride, i paid ALOT of money to see a top dermatologist at a private hospital in london two years ago, i was prescribed 5mg finasteride and told to take one a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the dosage is even printed on the prescription too! Well i had to stop after a while because of major sides, which is unsurprising considering what i know now about the dosage, i was just naive and trusted a doctor who should have known what he was talking about. This experience with the medicine has really put me off ever wanting to use it again, i think i had a lucky escape as i didnt feel right and took myself off it, even after going back to the doctor telling him my problems he suggested cutting it in half, which is still 2.5mg a day which was too high! I spose i will just have to grin and bare it! worse things have happened at sea!
  10. Hi I have been losing my hair since i was 18, i am now nearly 26 and have lost a lot. From 18 to 24 my hairloss was steady but slow and entirely at the temple area. However from 24 onwards i started to notice a thinning in the crown, and in the last two years i have lost more hairs and density (all over) than in the previous 6! Is this rapid excelleration in hairloss normal?
  11. Very interesting. A couple of points 1) if this has been successful in a small area, why has it not been tried (or if tried not been successful) in larger areas e.g. the entire scalp 2) if plucked head hairs are better (asthetically) than beard hairs, why even bother with the plucking of beard hairs, what benefits do they have over non beard hairs, are they less suseptable to dht?? is this technology likely to lead to HT that have no scars (strip) and an endless supply of donor hair?
  12. HI, thanks for the replys guys. My real concern is that i have had MPB since i was 18, but it was at a steady speed for 5 years, and all of the sudden my hair loss has greatly greatly increased (mainly on the crown). I'm trying to discover whether this is just natural progression of MPB or another factor. The only two variables that have changed are my use of lyrica and my use of courve. Im going to see my doctor in a months time, so have to make the decision whether or not i want to stay on lyrica or take an alternative.
  13. Ive been steadily losing my hair since i was 18, i am now 25. from 23.5 tto now i have gone up from a N2 to a high N3/4. My concern is why the loss which was steadily slow has increased so much recently. There are only two variables that have changed, I have been put on these tablets, and also used courve to cover the area. So i was wondering if anyone has had similar experience of suddenly increased hair loss (crown), when it had been steady for so many years beforehand?
  14. Is there anything (apart from a concealer) you can use to stop the scalp shinning through thin hair or when you have totally shaved down? Plus, does anyone know why the scalp shines so much compared to other parts of the body that are hairless?

Hi, I think the comment i made was to a person whos comment has now been deleted????? I duno. Anyways, sorry to hear about your plight, i started to lose my hair at 18 and had little digs ever since. Was slow at first but in the last year and a bit it has sped up, im now a norward 3v, and just about to start fin. It sucks, I know, but who cares what others think, if somone says somthing, the BEST thing to do is not ignore it or get cross, just laugh it off, make a joke out of it, even though it may hurt, if people think it doesnt bother you, then it doesnt get mentioned. If its a close friend, tell them the truth that it upsets you. Have you tried concealers, ive used courve and nanogen and both have good results, although take a while to master, ive heard dermatch is good also, but i cant seem to get that in the UK. The one thing i do not get, and never will, is the fact that people feel they can be so mean about peoples hair loss and try to embaress us. If i had a big nose ears teeth scar birth mark, it might get mentioned once, but people would feel sorry for you and prob hardly mention, however if your bald its almost asif its your own fault! so they have the right to take the piss!

hi did your hair loss stop as soon as you took proprecia? people say that you have to be on it atleast 12months, i was jus wondering whether u have 12months more loss then it works or you stop losing hairs gradually from the off
  17. I have a similar balding pattern at 24, I know how you feel buddy. However, I'd say after ten minutes in the morning in the bathroom, I can create an illusion of much fuller thicker hair using concealer. ATM i use courve, which is awesum for the crown, however definitely practice first before you go out. I have also used nanogen, which was good. My main problem has been finding a concealer that is the same colour has as mine (dirty blonde). But definitely give it a try, I recon you would have at least another years worth of the appearance of relatively thick hair.
  18. Ok, finally started taking fin 1mg a day. I was wondering what timescales were. e.g. when to expect the first shed, when hair should stop falling out/thickening and how long to be on it with no results, to give it a good try?

  20. That is a perfect quote by aaron.I havent had a transplant, but if i did, even if it was great, i think i would be more self conscious and obsessed about it. The thing with me is balding doesnt give you a choice anymore-style etc etc But once you have a transplant their is not much choice either, you don't suddenly get all your prior options back-you have one path and that is to chase your balding, and if your lucky you will get a very good illusion of hair....but you will still be looking in the mirror every 5 mins and have paid alot of money...but isn't that one of the factors in getting a HT to stop the anxiety and obsession, not increase and change what you are obsessed about. IMO meds and later acceptance is the only real way to beat hair loss.
  21. I am a norwood three vortex. Did you suffer any sides/major sheds?
  22. I am just about to start on fin, can you tell me after what month taking the drug you experienced your first she? how long did it last? and what percentage of your hair fell in this shed phase? thanks
  23. Ok, so I am finally going to embark upon the propecia route, after much research i believe the potential gains outweigh the risks for me, i dont want to grow new hair but would eventually like a shaved head with some hair on it. But before i do, i would just like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience to me. OK, here goes, i started losing my hair at 18, people commented which made me paranoid, but looking back it wasn't that bad at all, and i wish i was at that stage now lol. Anyways the hair loss was a slow and steady right up until i was 23. In the year and three months since then i have lost the same amount of hair than i did in the prior 5 years! especially on the crown that has thinned four times quicker than my temples. I have no real explanation for this, no new medication etc etc, the only thing that happened at the time i started to lose much more hair was my appendix burst and i had to have emergency surgery, since then my hair loss has been extremely aggressive. I don't think the two are linked, but wondered if anyone else has suffered slow hair loss, then a sudden sharp increase. I seem to be going through quite a big shed of hair atm too well over 100 hairs a day, id say 100 in the morning bath lol. thanks
  24. For me, I never wanted a hair transplant, the results IMO differ, especially for younger patients like myself who must consider the future implications of the surgery. I did like others have suggested, completly shaved my head, before losing my hair i would say i was a 7 out of ten lookswise, the thining period id say i went down to a 6.5 and when shaved id say i was 5.5. I dropped to a 5.5 because when you lose the hair other facial features are more prominently visable. So i decided to grow my thinning hair back, save up and in the future get one of my ears pinned and a new set of front teeth. I think this for me is a better plan than having a HT, for you, i think you look perfectly good with a shaved head, and shouldn't worry about it. Muscle up, take the meds if you wish to keep the hair you have and live!
  25. when i shaved my head down i noticed that one of my ears seems totally different shape, size, positioned etc from the other-that is normal. not semetric at all. Its not a massive difference, doesnt stick out much, but the different shape and position is the main problem not the fact that it pretrudes (which it does more than the other). So would a normal cosmetic ear surgery help my problem, because they normally just pin them back??
