  1. Sandy, I hope you're asking just for education's sake. Seriously man, forget getting an HT right now and try the meds out... Any ethical doctor isn't going to give you an HT anyway.
  2. hey d, i just had my procedure with dr. feller. i too went to a bad HT doc for the 1st one Dr. Joseph Karamikian, and Dr. Feller planted into my hairline between the minigrafts as well as into my crown. I will be posting pics here soon.
  3. You have a ways to go my man. Things will start to look esthetically pleasing probably around the 7.5-8 month mark.
  4. rustaaman, i just had my 1st dr. feller procedure 3 weeks ago....would love to see your pics.
  5. So you're just 20 years old and balding is hereditary? I'd say you are most likely not a good candidate for an HT. One thing to keep in mind is that you will likely need more HTs down the road once your hair recedes beyond the HT. Like I said, get on the meds for at least a year. They are known to regrow in younger guys. Then further down the road an HT might be in order....
  6. Dr. Feller is top notch. Dr. Alexander is also excellent as well as H&W, and Shapiro.
  7. Sandy, How long have you been researching HTs? Judging by your post I'd say you're fairly new to all of this, so I must say that planning to get one by this Dec.22 is not a good idea. You need to consult with a few docs first and have a plan for future hairloss, especially if your balding is not that bad. You should also look into getting on meds first (propecia) and staying on them for at least 1 year before considering an HT. An HT is a life altering surgery and while it can be amazing it can also turn into a disaster. So make sure you do your homework first, and that begins with reading these forums and seeing as many docs/patients as possible.
  8. I like to call the swept to the side the anchorman look . when i say a case by case basis i mean everyone has their own comfort level, and not everyone who gets an ht is starting off slick bald so they may have more styling options. but as you see by jotronic's examples, even a nw6 with some megasessions from a TOP doc can achieve enough density to pull off some cool looks. That's why you really should go for as many grafts as you can in one session and also why there's only a few docs you should see. you'll notice there are maybe 5-6 docs pulling off these huge graft numbers. then there are fringe docs that achieve those numbers but in multiple sessions. it comes down to one equation: more grafts=more density=more styling options.
  9. honestly, i think it's such a case-by-case basis. after my first ht my styling was limited because the density in the hairline wasn't great. so my hair looked best when styled back or spiked straight up. it gave off the best illusion of density. but i wanted more options and i'm hoping that's what this 2nd procedure will help me to achieve. of course i won't know for sure for another 4 months or so. regarding the way the hair sits on my head, the ht hairs are just like the native hairs in that regard.
  10. danny, i went through the same thing with my first HT only it was less grafts with 2s and 3s in the hailrine. the doctor, Joseph Karamikian in New York, turned out to be a very poor choice on my part. Luckily Dr. Feller was able to fill inbetween the mini grafts with true single hair fus. I will be posting my pics of both doc's work shortly and you will be amazed at the difference.
  11. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but since the hair from the donor isn't affected by dht, perhaps that's what makes it more coarse? People with curly or wavy hair seem to have more varying hair characteristics between donor and recipient than those with straight. for instance, my donor hair has wave, but the hairline gets cork screw curly.
  12. I think they do the swept to the side look for a few reasons: They think it provides better coverage. They haven't been to a good hairstyles. They're just used to doing it. Personally I think it makes it look like a bad HT or a rug. If you're gonna spend thousands of dollars to get your hair back I think you should at least spend some extra loot to get a hip hair cut.
  13. My redness lasted 4 months, stayed pink for another two. no worries, it will fade away.
  14. goog growing to you more hair!...and how about some pictures?
  15. behappy, i had my first ht with karamikian who was hitzig's associate. what a joke the guy is. everyone should stay FAR AWAY from him as well.
  16. I can't understand why docs don't update their photos on their web sites. I would think this is one of the most effective marketing tools today. i'm not a big armani fan, but i must say his web site probably drives a lot of business. imo, dr. alexander has a great site in regards to pics. they are accurate (not "headshots") and display immediate post-op shots.
  17. Just had my procedure with Feller, and while I can't speak for the results yet, the whole experience was fantastic. the work is incredibly clean and so dense packed.
  18. getfuzzy, there are only a handful of TOP HT docs in the world. and when trying to improve the appearance of your hair you do not want to run the risk of going to a less-than-top doctor--it could make things worse for you. as others will tell you, do not let travel stop you from getting a first-rate procedure. if that's a factor than i would say forget it altogether. good docs to start with are: feller, alexander, rahal, hasson and wong, shapiro, wolf, cole. do TONS of research before deciding on anything. this site is a great place to start. also check hairlosshelp.com. Best of luck to you.
  19. definitely try the shaved head look and perhaps grow some cool facial hair. dressing stylishly can also improve your overall appearance and give you some confidence. stay on the meds for a year, but don't expect miracles. in the meantime, do lots of research on hts and perhaps consult with some top docs. STAY AWAY from hairmills like Bosley and MHR. Good guys to consults with (in person or online) are: Feller, Rahal, Alexander, Hasson and Wong, Shapiro, Wolf, Cole. Best of luck to you...
  20. platty, meds might help you retain what native hairs you have. younger guys could see some regrowth. it's not mandatory you be on meds.
  21. oh, and btw, i have no idea exactly how many singles/doubles/trips were used, but i can just tell by looking that my hairline is all singles, just the way it should be. and dr. feller used some singles towards the back of my crown too.
  22. JOhn, have you tried calling him? dr. feller definitely seems like a very accessible guy. also, your work does look great. i just had mine done friday and it also looks ultra clean...
  23. hawthorne/wylie, as i stated, that's just my opinion on who top docs are. i'm sure others will disagree. also, try and see as many patients in person as you can. people do travel far and wide for a good ht (many guys fly to the states or canada from europe because of lack of good docs there). also, many docs will pay for half your airfare plus some time in the hotel. oh, and you'll also find that some docs are flexible on their pricing, so don't be afraid to haggle.
  24. It's called a consultation and you should have one with any surgeon you are considering. I met with Dr. Feller twice before deciding to have surgery with him. It's not just to allay your fears, but to discuss a plan for your Ht and possible future Hts.
  25. i found hairlosshelp first and have been a regular contributor there. however, after a while the posts and topics get stale, people keep picking the same fights, and branching out helps you find other patients/doctors and cases. so, this has become the second place i post and research. as far as i can tell, these are the two most visited forums...
