  1. My top three choices were: Feller, Alexander, Rahal. Next were H&W. I went with Dr.Feller. After researching all of these docs over the past year I felt comfortable that any of them could successfully plant grafts at a high density with natural results.
  2. leica, yes you do have a lot more research to do before you consider getting an HT. Just keep reading this site as well as hairlosshelp.com. IMO, these are the two most useful/informative sites. if i were you i'd try propecia and rogaine for at least 1 year, researching HTs all the while. By the end of the year you'll know what type of results the meds can give you and be much better educated on HTs. You can also do some consultations (most docs will do them online) to get a feel for different docs and what they might recommend...best of luck!
  3. the sides are generally considered a "safe-zone" too for donor supply.
  4. First of all, is that $9 for strip or FUE? If it's strip then it's a total rip-off. IMO, the top docs you want to consult with are: Feller (NY), H&W (Canada), Rahal(Canada), Alexander (Arizona), Shapiro (MN). If you are out west I'd put Alexander at the top of my list. His work is amazing. Also, most HT docs will offer you incentives to fly out to them (they might cover 1/2 airfare and a night in the hotel). Best of luck!
  5. I was going to say the same thing Bill, but then I realized it's good to keep a thread about a bad HT doc fresh! There should be a topic section where people can vent about the lousy HT work/doctors that are still out there, or even a site dedicated to it so innocent virgin scalps don't fall prey...
  6. azza, you really do have to give the HT 1 year to make any judgments. and even after that it will continue to soften and refine. it's looking good so far man....
  7. My understanding is that the rogaine will increase blood circulation which is why it may help speed HT grwoth in the hairline...
  8. TD, you're lucky; while the lousy HT was pluggy looking, you have a pretty decent base to start with. your recent HT should make you look great. good growing to you!
  9. Jman, Unfortunately at this point, even if your body was "rejecting" the HT, there's really nothing you can do. I realize a doctor's explanation will put your mind more at ease, so definitely don't stop bugging the doc until you get one that satisfies you. Try getting pics up if you can, but really the only thing you can do is sit tight and see how it grows. Also, losing 3 grafts in the grand scheme is no big deal...
  10. jman, just saw your other post...it does sound unusual for you to see the bulb and have bleeding and pain. however, the grafts are fully secure after 8 days. i would definitely call dr. path up. you paid a lot of money for the surgery so don't be bashful about getting him on the phone. also, how raised up are the bumps you are seeing? any pictures you could attach would be helpful too...
  11. Jman, Shedding grafts at 17 days is totally normal. You may not see the bulb of the follicle when the hair falls out. Do not worry though, these are indeed the grafts. Also, propecia will not effect the planted grafts. The toughest part about an HT is not the surgery but the waiting. Keep in mind that although growth will start at around 3 months, it will not look cosmetically significant for quite sometime and results can change dramatically from month to month up until 1 year. So be patient and feel reassured if you went to a top doctor you should be very happy by this time next year. Good growing!
  12. wow, that is a scary web site. they show graft estimates for a nw6-7 at 2500! also, on the first patient gallery they use the term "mini-graft."
  13. Shockloss can be temporary or permanent, depending on the strength of those native hairs. If they are weak/minitiarized and were gonna die soon anyway, then they may not grow back. however, if your doctor feels they are strong then you should be okay. best of luck with your surgery.
  14. i had a few hairs that stayed short for about 9 months. the suckers finally grew...
  15. Other than Armani, what doctors are pushing for ALL FUE HTs?
  16. That's why you need to go with a TOP doc and have a solid game plan. If you strategize correctly between what you currently need and donor supply for future HTs you should be fine. Also, your hair characterstics will play a huge role in creating the "illusion" of density.
  17. Aquarius, I agree, an HT is no walk in the park, but it's also not open heart surgery, so in the grand scheme of things, it is a relatively minor surgery.
  18. Where did you place the grafts? 678 is not a large number so I'm assuming you didn't have much area to cover. Also please post some pics if possible. thanks!
  19. Dr. Alan Feller is the top new york-area doc, imo....
  20. Also Pat, i think the clinic visits you do are great and very valuable. ever think of doing video with them?
  21. I agree there likely are other clinics that do good work that aren't discussed on the forums. However, the top docs that are discussed here over and over tend to have consistent results and they are showcased readily on these forums. So it's easier to get info on them and talk to patients. And I do think the very cream of the crop are showcased here and on other likeminded forums.
  22. Spend some time on this board and hairlosshelp. You'll see the same doctor names and results posted for a reason...
  23. P.S. do a search on this board for Williams and on hairlosshelp.com. If no results pop-up that doesn't mean he's a bad doc but he's defintiely not considered a TOP doc, and anyone other than a TOP doc is gamble...
  24. Dr. Alexander was one of my top three considerations. His work is incredible. Dense packed and very natural design. IMO, one of the TOP docs out there. Also, although he's in New York, you should consider DR.Feller.
  25. Your grafts are fully secure after 8 days, so no worries. growth usually starts at 3-4 months, but it will take a full year for your hair to mature, so be patient.
