Dude you need to have another doctor look at that. If it's infected and spreads you could lose not only grafts but more scalp tissue. Not to mention your brain falling out. Okay, just kidding about the brain part, but seriously get it looked at by a doctor in person ASAP.

It does look pretty sparse. You also appear to have some mild cobblestoning or pitting right in the front. I think anytime you get ~2000 grafts in a large area you should be made aware it's going to be thin but this still has time to thicken up.

I just want to clarify that the hermit part is now, after the HT, just waiting for it to grow. But I will say that many things I avoided before, like windy days without a hat and swimming at the beach are things I'm really looking forward to.

My HT last Nov. the sacrifice was almost 20 grand, 2 weeks vacation time, becoming a hermit when I'm not at work and wearing a hat every single day at work. But since I went to H&W I'm still pretty confident that it is all going to be worth it. Now the first HT with Buccholz at Bosley's house of butchering was a much bigger sacrifice. Even though I only spent about 2 grand on that one, just living with plugs for 20+ years (even though much of that time they were hidden well because my hair loss was slow) and worrying about getting it fixed and if people could see it and how it affects your social life was a much bigger sacrifice. I remember my ex-wife saying why don't you just get it fixed but the stressful thing was that until I met a H&W patient I had not seen one decent HT. Every consult I went to I would leave shaking my head at how fairly obvious even their star patient's HTs looked. (Bosley though had shown me people that had never had an HT and said they were actual patients) So for 22 years I had no hope that anything other than removing the plugs would work. So in hindsight I WAS the actual sacrifice and Bosley had sacrificed me for money

If people here are getting results on EOD dosage and Merck didn't test that dosage it would appear EOD may be effective. Also even though the half life is short Merck's own studies show that DHT levels do not return to normal for 2 weeks on average in patients that have been on finasteride for I believe 3 months.

Hasson and Wong are a short flight away and there is not a clinic in the bay area that comes close to their results.

Serious I think you are missing the point. Proscar works better at maintaining hair that is already there. Once it is there the mechanism that got it there might matter less to maintain it. Yes I think you would lose SOME of the hair you regained through Rogaine but I also think continuing Proscar would help you hang on to some of the positive results. But more than likely I'll just drop back to once a day applications after about 10 months.

I agree with HMO, the temples are a fail. The doctor should fix those gratis. I'm impressed with your upbeat attitude about it.

Joe, It's pretty much gone now and I have maybe one or two very small ones so no worries.

Like all questions that apply to thousands of different people it depends. A general rule of thumb might be that older patients with smaller loss could probably avoid it and younger patients with more aggresseve loss probably will need to take it.

I started Proscar 1.25mg 4 times a week back in October. One of the claims is that it will help you keep hair you already have and also regrow some hair. My thought is that adding Rogaine foam twice a day (which I did in Jan.) for the first 8-12 months will enhance the chances of regrowth. Once you have any regrowth I would think there is the possibility of stopping Rogaine because the new hair should be able to be maintained by the Proscar. Yes I have considered the argument that they work by two different processes. But the bottom line is that once the hair has regrown it now becomes a maintenance issue more than a regrowth issue. Clearly there might be some small loss of benefit but I think the logic is sound. Doctor Hasson told me he believes that even a once a day application of Rogaine has some benefit so that is also a possibility but I really do not enjoy using the stuff. Having to rub some chemical smelling (to me anyway, I know it doesn't bother others) stuff on my head 2 times a day versus just taking a pill EOD is a no-brainer. I'm curious what others think about this, especially the doctors who frequent the site.

I really like this result. For a young guy with that type of loss it's so important to start off with a conservative approach. And his crown does seem to be responding to meds so a very good call in not transplanting there.

Wow when I look at your before pics in that link and here your hairline was way stronger and slightly lower than after spending 60 grand. Also his BS about not taking the old scar is just that, BS. Any decent HT doctor takes the old scar unless he is doing surgery on someone else's patient and the old scar is in a bad position. But since all these scars are Bauman's that is not the case. When he talks about removing the scar and transplantable follicles yielding less than 1000 grafts he's also full of it. Many of the doctors here routinely remove old scars and get more than 2000 grafts. Dr. Hasson removed some of my old scarring and got ~4700 grafts. And the old scarring was not even from him. And the coup de grace is when he says "My staff and I all understand that you are going through the cosmetically awkward 'in-between' time". Ahhhh yes "Doctor" Bauman, the awkward, 4 surgery, 5 years, experimental graft sucking machine, 3 different donor scars, $60,000.00 'in between' time. Standard procedure and all that, tut tut. k10 wake up and smell the coffee. Then call a lawyer.

runman and k10 you have a legal right to your records. Bauman has to give copies to you free of charge if your goal is to get corrective work done by another doctor. He also has to let you and/or your lawyer view the originals. It seems he is still trying to take advantage of your naivete by threatening you with legal action. You need an advocate who is fully versed in Florida medical law and should start researching the matter ASAP.

k10 you must get a lawyer. He butchered you and threw in the insult of suckering you 4 different times and stealing 60K from you. 60 K to get butchered? Get a lawyer before any statute of limitations expires. It's clear that in this day and age that what happened to you falls well below the standard of care. And then he has the nerve to not even answer your e-mails? Please please please contact several lawyers. You have a chance to get your money back and perhaps general damages also. Do not wait because the sooner you do it the better your chances are. I genuinely hope one of the doctors from this site can help you and wish you well.

Staples out is still the best day for me so far. Your hairline looks great. HMO is right about looking back at these pics. I seem to do it once a week just to remind myself of what's coming back!

HMO here you go. From the top of the red area to the bottom is 1/2 inch. It is on the right side and that is my temple point just below it. I looked at my post op photos and it was definitely grafted in this area. Again it's tender to the touch but otherwise I can't feel it. Of course the pic is 2D so you don't see it's protuberance.

I have never seen a single good result by Bauman. But I have seen several results that look terrible.

FC I just noticed it about an hour ago. I didn't feel anything but was looking in the mirror for new hairs That's when I saw it. After 15 minutes with a hot compress it was almost flat but now it's coming back which leads me to think there's a nice long ingrown hair in there. The problem is I don't want it to get infected but I don't know how to get it out.

I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this. I have a red lump in the recipient area that is tender to the touch and kind of firm. I'm not sure if it is an ingrown hair or a cyst. It is about the size of a large pea. I'm going to put a hot compress on it for awhile and see if that helps but if anyone else has had this please let me know what you did and how it worked out. I agree with you to an extent slaps, except the difference today is that there are at least a small percentage of clinics doing what IMO is excellent work. But yes the HT world is still ripe with greedy hacks.

Short version: The density issue is your fault Cole. You payed for a procedure and that's what you got. I'm not responsible for the result but I might give you a discount on the next procedure.
