This patient is 6 months post op. He did not have good donor density at all so we knew we weren't going to get a lot of grafts; certainly not enough to cover the top with great density. Even though we only got 2026 grafts, his transplanted hair is consistent with the density of his hair on the sides and back.

This patient has had two transplants. The first was 2 years ago, receiving 1500 grafts in his hairline. His 2nd transplant was to thicken up the hairline and fill in a couple spots. His hairline is growing very well and continuing to thicken up. His 2nd surgery we transplanted 1620 grafts and he is currently 6months post op. I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year.

When it comes to Neosporin or Bacitracin I only reccomend it being used day 6 post op NEVER immediately after surgery. It is an option to my patients to use it or not. The reason to use it is to soften up the scabs in the recipient area and help them come off. Pts are instructed to apply the neosporin over the grafted area for 30 minutes to an hour before their shower, then use lots of shampoo and water to wash the ointment out. As far as the incision goes, I instruct patients to keep the area clean and dry during the enire week that the stitches are left in. Thanks, Dr. Alexander

Cigarette with hair loss
Dr. Scott Alexander MD replied to Tracy's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
Hair loss is mostly genetic. There has never been any studies or medical reasoning stating that cigarettes cause hair loss. -

It depends on where you are losing your hair and what your family history is like. There are a lot of factors involved. If you are losing your hair in the front you will probably be good with a transplant and not lose a ton more. If you are losing in the crown area, you will mostly likely lose more if you don't stay on Propecia. Again, family history is a big factor too. It is up to you though how long you are willing to stay on the medication.
