  1. So, I’ve decided to give one of those online physician app services a try in attempting to obtain a prescription for generic oral minoxidil, as I would like to give that a try in conjunction with my microneedling as I’ve completely stopped using liquid and foam Minox back 4-5 months ago, was just too annoying and messy and causing too much dandruff for me.

    Thought I’d share my experience..

I decided to use the HeyDoctor app which for a flat fee offers a virtual doctor evaluation and treatment with prescriptions if approved.

The process was fairly simple and easy, you creat an account, choose a condition you are seeking help with from a fairly good varied list that tells you upfront what the fee for the “consultation” is, you create your profile, upload some photos and a photo of an ID, answer some health questions, comment on what type of previous treatment was done and what you’re seeking, you then wait a short period of time for one of their doctors to look over your submission and communicate in the apps chat txt feature, all took about 10-15 minutes.

I was offered a prescription for Finasteride (90-day supply with 3 additional fills) which I accepted, but my main reason was to seek a prescription for oral generic minoxidil 2.5mg. Unfortunately, they replied that it was not a prescription they offered, I was disappointed.

In the app I did have them send the Finasteride to my local Costco, for pickup, and was pleasantly surprised at how low the price was for a 90-day supply of 1mg generic Fin ($14.50 but minus the app coupon code which brought it down to $11.99 total), the virtual consultation was a flat one time fee of $39. The prescription comes with 3 addition 90-day refills, for a full year supply, so total about $87 which is a great deal...and an even better deal if I decide to split the 1mg to do microdosing at 0.5mg...in effect $87 for 2 years, although I am going to initially use the tablets to make a fin topical a see how that goes for a few months.

Its definitely a very good simple, cost effective service to use (in the US) if one is looking for a way to get Fin cheaply instead of through a subscription service.

  2. This is just a perpetual way to gain steady income in the form of Investor funding then bankruptcy then repeat, for the doctor and his staff, sad to say and hate to sound like a downer, but what the human body creates/replicates on its own is extremely difficult for machines and other artificial sources to replicate even if cells originate from the patient. Gene therapy was supposed to be the cure to many diseases, in fact in some cases it’s been harmful even deadly. Artificial organs were also supposed to be a game changer...hasn’t panned out as the body rejects and so people are still on long organ donor lists. I would love to be proven wrong in 3-5-10 years but I highly doubt it.

i heard if you start early with finastride its better to maintain what you have. should i start with very low dose? only to be in the safe zone

The advice I and great advice from @TommyLuccheseand @Gatsby is all there for you to follow if you choose to.

To be very honest, I first tried Finasteride back when 20 years old, when I got ahold of Proscar tablets before it was approved for hair loss, I cut it up in small amounts, took it for a year...yet still I lost my hair and definitely felt I had some side effects like clouded mindset....so I would say even for a low dose just wait until you’re a little older, do topical Finasteride or Minox/fin topical if you can and derma rolling, nizoral as suggested above.

That's kind of what I had hoped to do here, I figure by sharing all the information I can find on the center and the doctor more seasoned veterans can help me spot anything fishy. Or maybe someone has heard of this place and these doctors and could weigh in. But you're right Cosmo, it's my call, just asking for some help making it.

Totally understand man, as all those of us whom have jumped into this type of journey have Kukey had the same feelings, questions and apprehensions. I’d say, keep researching until you’re sure and comfortable and ready. Good luck!

The weirdest thing is, this other person didn't have the same doctor. They had Dr. Beehner who actually is heavily on this site. I have Dr. Slaughter, (Second link of him on this site) same center but different doctor.  This person's issues with Dr. Beehner were:

    - The scar on the back of head widened to over 3cm (this is because he used removable stitches)

    -  Hairline uneven by 1cm

    - Beehner kept making comments that showed he forgot their entire medical history and everything they went over in consult

Direct quote: The whole experience was awful and the whole place seemed pretty unprofessional. I contacted my patient coordinator the day after surgery to follow up and she told me she didn’t work there anymore as of that day and had no one to refer me to. It was very odd.

That's the thing, my gut isn't saying no. It's just I jumped right in thinking I'm not getting any younger but now I'm at least looking for confirmation. I don't usually go online for any kind of doctor or medical advice so I really didn't think to now either.

No one here can make your decision for you( unbiasedly), that’s just the way it goes in life. Ask for other patient references and see if you can zoom them but it’s a risk you have to accept to take, either cancel and loose your deposit and do more research on other docs or go through with it.

    Date for an actual surgery.

But why kramer? is he no good? what am I missing here?

I am not familiar with your choice of doctor...but if you have a wavering feeling in your gut...I say always follow your gut...so that’s why I say reschedule and do more research and discussion with other patients of the doctor to see if you want to go through with it. They should be able to provide you with patient references to contact.

Hey man, great update on your long-term HT and how’s it’s still held-up without Fin after your 4-5 post HT years (for those of us that are also not on Fin). I watched your videos when I was doing my research and leading up to my HT and your honest review and progress definitely helped in my choosing to go with the clinic as well. 👍🏻

The doctor is the one who does the whole implantation part.

The extraction is done by the same nurse trained by the doctor and when she is not available, it is also done by the doctor himself.

Thanks Melvin! day 20 and still looking super good!, in a few days I will update with new pictures ;)

    Another question for you:

Does the doc pre-create slit incision sites for the grafts or just uses the implanter pen to directly implant the grafts after extraction?

    thanks.

I've been on 2.5mg pill daily since around aug/sept last year and I've responded better to it, notice hair all over my head is thicker instead of just the areas I was applying it before. I couldn't stay on the topical because of scalp conditions that it irritated. I'm in the US and you do need a prescription for it, got that from a hair transplant doc in my area, local pharmacy is where I pick it up. And its pretty cheap. 2 month supply is about $25 without insurance.  I use goodrx to get about a $10 discount.

If you're in the US go here and set your location to see what local pharmacies around you charge:

    https://www.goodrx.com/minoxidil

    Thanks!

Same here, I hate the irritation from both liquid and foam so I am considering oral if i see it’s safe enough...good to hear that you are seeing better hair quality with it.

That’s pretty inexpensive, I’m in NY so I’ll see if a doc would prescribe it for me and yeah..GoodRx is a good way to lower the rx price. 👍🏻
