This seems incredibly rare to me. It may depend on skin tone and the density of hairs you're transplanting but generally it seems any Caucasian guy getting a typical reinforcement of 2-4k grafts has significantly visible redness for months. Just blatantly obvious you've had a transplant for about 2 months

Can someone explain to me what permanent shock loss is? How does that happen? The follicle itself is destroyed or something? I understood shockloss to mean a telogen effluvium where many native hairs shed post transplant due to the trauma. But it all grows back eventually. If it doesn't then that's hair you were going to lose anyway?

I thought the average donor capacity was around 6-8k? Donor is my main concern, seen as I'm only 26 and do have a thinning crown too. I think my donor area is average. I would be much more relaxed if my crown was untouched as I understand it completely eats grafts compared to the front. I'm happy to put 3-3.5k in my frontal third as long as the area behind my temples/forelock is reinforced - I do see some guys spunking this amount of grafts in a NW2 hairline area which is a luxury I can't afford. It's my hope that this first procedure will sort my frontal third for life, is this naive? I think you're right about Erdogan being a no-brainer so I don't plan to have any in-person consults for the moment. I do keep a close eye on future treatments and believe at least one of them will come out in the next few years that would allow me to maintain my remaining hair. That's obviously a bonus though and not something I'm basing this transplant decision on - more for the future when I'm in my 30s/40s. If they all fail miserably then in all likelihood I will have to deplete my donor completely and still have a thin crown/midscalp. I've attached some crappy pics to give you a general idea of my hair.

Small update - I sent pics to Erdogan and they quoted me 3k-3.2k grafts. Not too bad but I think that might go up by the time I get round to having it + there being more miniaturization on my scalp than the pics show (behind the temples). Gonna send my pics round to a few others on the shortlist and see what the differences in graft # are

Just screams transplant to me. Not very natural looking and a bit over-the-top. Some people like that though. Must admit I'm quite envious he has 5,000 grafts to drop into a NW2 area!

Don't go to India. Go to one of the better docs in Turkey if cost is an issue.

Sorry to see this. Hope you can get it fixed by a good surgeon. Another recommended surgeon from this site with another botch job. People need to be careful. Could you please disclose the surgeon's name so others can avoid a similar fate?

Thanks for the input guys. I think we are mostly in agreement. I obviously won't be able to get the full picture until I have my donor area assessed and get some graft counts from clinics. Graft quotes will decide whether it is Erdogan, Keser, Lupanzula or Bisanga. (shortlist for now, subject to change ofc!). Obviously I can't be sure but having researched hundreds of results, I am quite confident I can get the results I desire for 2.5k-3k grafts in the hands of a great surgeon. I am 27, NW3 with dense hair and temporal recession. Erdogan is my first choice but I am sure he will quote me 3.5k minimum.

Agree. Happens all too often unfortunately. I don't see how its "trashing" a surgeon to post their name along with their results .I thought it was one of the main reasons for this community, for us as customers to stick together in what can be a pretty risky industry. Trashing a surgeon would be not posting pics but attacking them anyway. They should be held accountable for their work. Now we have a recommended surgeon doing botch jobs like this and we'll never know who it is. I feel sorry for whoever the next victim may be.

I would take the "recommendations" on this site with a pinch of salt. That basically means they are not butchers, it doesn't mean they are elite or even great. Many doctors have a lot of bad results on this site. The Indian one for example as hrsp10 says. I'm not particularly impressed with Dr. Yaman's hairline work though I guess he's one of the best in that price bracket (1 euro) Also Demirsoy and Karadeniz are not on the same level as Keser and Erdogan. The second two are the strongest in Turkey. Both use a LOT of grafts to achieve their dense results though so you better have donor to spare.

Tsuji is the only one with legitimate promise. It will be very expensive if/when released though, but I genuinely think that method will make AGA a thing of the past by 2030. More short term, there is stuff like Histogen, Follica, SM and Replicel in phase 2/3 trials aiming for release 2018/19.

I agree. I don't question the quality of their results. I just don't understand why they use so many more grafts for the same result. Its all very well saying its cheaper, but donor hair is a more valuable resource than money.

Damn this is disappointing to read. I really want to go to ASMED but I can't be dropping half my donor supply on my hairline. Erdogan always uses more than any other clinic I've seen. His hairline work is so good though. I wanted to hear that they would be willing to compromise on graft count, I'm thinking sensibly and planning for future loss/procedures but I guess they need huge graft counts for that dense-packed hairline.

Hi guys, thanks a lot for the input, much appreciated. I will take a look at those guys you mentioned KO. I think I've already accepted this is going to cost more than originally expected. Probably around 7000-9000 euros, I've been looking mostly at these: Dr Erdogan (first choice but not at the cost of half my donor) Dr Keser (great hairline work, does everything himself) Dr Bisanga (over my budget but very well regarded) Dr Lupanzula (seems new on the scene but great work - anyone know price) Dr Ozgur Dr Maras I think I won't be able to narrow down this list properly until I receive graft quotes from clinics, but I don't intend on getting a HT for another 10 months at least so its a bit early for that I guess. Right now I think the graft count is more important than the cost. If Erdogan says I need 3200 and Bisanga says he can do it with 2000 I would go with Bisanga. Here is an example of roughly where my hair is and what result I'm after. My hair is slightly less advanced than the before pic though, similar temple loss but my forelock is wider and stronger. I think I'm a strong NW2.5-3. I understand this is quite an exceptional result and not the norm. It's probably one of my favourites.
