Yeah, I never felt like I got a good enough explanation of why FUT then FUE yield more grafts. I can see the argument from a coverage and planning standpoint but once grafts are moved they're moved. I've had 12k grafts moved FUE and no one can tell when looking at my donor area. Only I can tell when I've slept on it weird or something. However, I did go the the best FUE-scalp hair-only surgeon in the world. He's the only one I can recommend for that number of grafts. I'm sure I could still get an FUT and it would be covered just fine, not that I'll ever need to.ย
Traditional wisdom was that you would โstrip outโ then go for subsequent FUE procedures. But the problem with this is that the strip scar can stretch after multiple strips, plus you need high donor density to conceal a strip scar. I donโt think this is the best approach. Obviously, your approach is best, second best would be a mixture of scalp + beard. I would put strip +FUE third.ย

I would say less than 60 fu/cm^2 is poor, between 60-80 fu/cm^2 is average, and more than 80 fu/cm^2 is above average.
I saw Dr Bruno Ferreira and was told I have a great donor area with about 100 fu/cm^2, I also have a lot of doubles, triples and quadruples so this would easily translate to more than 200 hairs/cm^2.ย
So, if you want some photos on what an "above average" donor area looks like you can take a look at myย consultation report and photos of my donor area on my thread - link below:
Would be interesting to see how many grafts you need or donor capacity you have using scalp scan or Dr. Zarevโs software.ย 100 fuโs per cm2 is very rare.ย

Cheers mate!ย Probably worth sharing the photo of my hair shaved down just before my third sitting. given the area had just under 6k grafts taken from it at the time of the photo, it looks in reasonable shape. TBH I don't think id have any issues shaving down to a zero guard and drawing attention from general public.ย Dr Sethi told me that the two techs who do the all the extractions at the clinic have been specialising in this for the past 12 years, which I really like. Also probably explains why they have good donor management.ย
Donor management at itโs finest.ย

To be fair, this looks like 3,000 grafts on this large area.ย
ยThere are some patches that look like subpar growth. But its not a total failure. I think the problem is there wasnโt enough grafts placed in this area.ย
I had a podcast with Dr. Pittella, he talked about a case that looked relatively minor in comparison to your case and he required over 6k grafts. I think you probably need at least 10,000 grafts.ย
ยI think this might give you a better idea of whatโs necessary.

1.25mg is low. I think the minimum to see results is 2.5mg.

It varies widely, as a general rule of thumb. Visible hair loss isn't visible until around 40 fu per cm2. Donors can range from 65-80 fu per cm2.ย

Thank you. I asked Bloxham and got a similar response.
#neverstrip seems to be the consensus and in an ideal world I should be going for a Zarev, Sethi or Pittella, but if one does not have the access to elite surgeons that have worked on NW6/7(I'm not sure you can even book Zarev. Sethi and Pittella would be like 1-1.5 yr wait away and expensive. $5/graft for 6000+grafts adds up quickly), then wouldn't FUE exhaust donor completely if I somehow progress to NW7 vs doing FUT first? That is really my concern. FUT leaves you with lot of grafts in the bank as an insurance policy+Verteportfin could end up giving more grafts down the line.
ย
I've been tempted by someone like Nader, who's cheap and excellent(I think I can be persistent in contacting him). There are other good FUE surgeons as well. But worried about FUE not leaving enough in the bank for later. The scar doesn't bother me. What do you think? Here's a good large case Nader handled:ย
ย
The idea that you can get maximum 6,000 grafts is antiquated. There are several men whoโve had 9k+ from FUE that look good. @Bandit90ย @captaincalicoย @Gatsbyย @mtb@HugoXย these are just a few.ย
FUT doesnโt leave you with more grafts. Youโre removing the grafts, so those grafts are gone. It will leave you with a scar that you may need to add grafts to afterwards. Remember you need optimal density to conceal a strip scar. Getting subsequent FUEs reduces density, which Will w post the scar.ย
I will add hattingen to the mix. I love Nader, but high Norwoods isnโt something he does often. Hattingen certainly do more high Norwoods.ย

The work looks good. I am actually scheduled to visit Dr. Behnam and observe him in surgery. Can you post some pictures of your donor?

Great work thanks for sharing.

This is strange, perhaps some sort of nerve. Have you spoken to the clinic about this?

I would NOT recommend strip. If youโre going to do this, I would look at the big 3 Zarev, Sethi, Pittella. These are the surgeons doing large cases with the biggest Norwood 6 portfolios.ย
Keep in mind, this will not be a cheap endeavor.ย

Ask what he would do if youโre not satisfied.ย
