  1. Maternal vs paternal is not a good indicator. This part is pretty much urban myth. You can take the hair loss gene from either side. As a whole, I feel like family patterns are not a good indication based on how many people on the board do not match their families pattern. They may be somewhat helpful but are among the weakest of all indicators IMO.

    Couldn't agree more!

My hair loss started around 17, I'm 40 now. It's been very very slow! On & off Proscar the whole time until the last few years when I've been very consistent in taking it. So my personal experience is it started early but was not real quick to advance.

  2. Biz..

I think your first procedure looks unbelievable considering what you were up against…with your degree of hair loss Dr Gabel did an incredible job…

Im sure your second procedure will be the icing on the cake…also, IF I were you I wouldn't even consider taking propecia..You looked pretty advanced…I don't think you get much regrowth from it…but Hey thats just my opinion..anyway your hair looks great!

  3. Thanks doc. I do find it mind blowing that in 24 years, you have only had 3 cases of donor shock loss. The cases I am referring to on here were not "complaints" but rather just patients posting their progress pics. My doc was Dr. Rahal and I can point to at least 6 cases off the top of my head, including my own where shock loss occurred. In all of these cases, the hair grew back and the scar turned out excellent. In my own case, the hair grew back and my scar was 1mm. Therefore, if the primary reason for donor shock is tension, it sure is not supported by the cases I am referring to because you would think this excess tension would also produce a sub optimal scar.

This was my experience as well…Most of my shock loss was at the sides where the strip was ended..all came back and looked great though!

  4. According to Merck's quarterly report for the period ended June 30, 2012, Propecia sales totaled $100 million.

You have your answer right there. ;)

That's probably every pill manufacturers profit. I'm sure Pfizers is probably triple that. Just seems like the market on hairloss meds has gone stale. The best treatments today are the same as they were 20 years ago. If it's about money, I'm sure a cure for hairloss would be an instant billionaire for anyone who finds it.

  5. I had a transplant 22 years ago...it wasn't a bad one, it was just standard for the time. In 1994ish propecia hits the market. It's the best thing since sliced bread. Fast forward 20 years, hair transplantation has gotten great!! Better EVERY year..my results from Dr Rahal are unreal! There are unreal results posted everyday on here!

    Question

What really happened to the " bald cure ". How has propecia remained the #1 medicine for hairloss?

Just a curious question. Just seems like modern medicine would have advanced further.
