  1. Mine lasted 4-5 days and I am fair skinned. In my previous surgery it lasted for weeks. Not sure why my redness didnt last long, but after a week, you could look at my skin and not tell it was red at all.
  2. I never really had any big sheds nor had it accelerate balding. I have read where others claim it accelerated it. Not sure what to make of it, but never had issues here.
  3. I was on Rogaine for over 20 years and when I stopped, my hair did shed alot and did not style like it did the past previous two decades. I just started up on it again about 6 weeks ago and no shedding....but I do hear that it is COMPLETELY normal to shed at first. Rogaine will only help you - it certainly wont make you go bald.
  4. Your hair doesnt look as bad as you think. As you get older, you will probably appreciate the hair you have (and the work you had done) when you look at some of the people your age going way more bald then you will. Ive never had a normal hairline or normal head of hair since I was a teen, however, I am way more appreciative of the hair that I have now.
  5. My redness with Dr Vogel lasted 4-5 days and then most of the pink went away. My other HT was about 10-12 days of some redness/pink. A day or two before going on tv, just tan and get some redness in your face (of course you have to COMPLETELY cover up all the HT as the rays will damage it). That way if you have any redness from surgery, it will blend in with your face. Not sure where you live, but may be worthwhile to wait until the hot summer months. With my first HT, I only did the sides of my forehead as I was parting my hair in the middle and could over it up. This time around I was kinda scared as I had my entire hairline touched up. It really was not noticeable for me within the first week......
  6. I agree that it probably wont effect MPB, unless you have a completely TERRIBLE diet of junk food....then maybe it will speed things up....
  7. My sex drive increased on FIN.....no complaints here (I know it's a rarity)
  8. I did not, but I wouldnt sweat it...I had major itches on the scar for the first couple of weeks before it really scabbed up.....
  9. From what I can tell, it looks completely normal. Most people always look thinner up front because the way the light hits the curvature of the skull. I also wouldnt go wasting precious donor hair for the front hairline just in case mother nature throws you a curve ball in 10-15 years....
  10. I havent updated my pics in a while and figured I was due.....here are 4.5 months after my HT surgery in May and I'm as happy as can be...and Im sure there is more growth coming in the next 6 months or so. I had hair filled in the corners of my hairline where I didnt have hair, even in my teens, and am loving life right now....
  11. I went to Dr. Lindsey in McClean, VA (right outside DC). I had some minor work done in the 90s by MHR and had that pluggy appearance. Although there werent nearly as many as you have, he did build my hairline up just a bit infront of my previous HT....Im only a little over 4 months out and must say he does great work....if I ever need additional work done, Im definitely going back to him. Plus, he is very good when it comes to scarring too.....
  12. Do you mean the hairs havent fallen out yet fron the newly transplanted hair or they really havent crusted yet? Mine crusted in a few days and some of the hair (not much) continued to grow. If the hair hasnt fallen out yet, you may be one of the very few who never has the hair fall out and go dormant, but continues to grow....
  13. Never heard of him, but when I see MHR or Bosley, I look the other way. MHR gave me a crap procedure in 96....I did see Dr. Lindsey in Reston, VA and couldnt be happier. I had the procedure on in late May and, so far, couldnt be happier. Alot of growth happened in the past 4-6 weeks and looks really good.
  14. At 22, I looked into HT and the doctor flat out told me no, and I wasnt sure why. Now, at 39, I completely understand it. The results look great, but the age seems rather young for a HT.
  15. I started to notice mine starting to sprout just after the 3 month mark...I wouldnt sweat it at all......
  16. I just do the scheduled does 2x a day - I started this I believe 10 days after I had my HT in May.
  17. I had some horrible work done in 1996 and they held up the entire time through present day. THe hairs were still very thick and never really seemed to have shed. I just had surgery 5 weeks or so ago and hopefully these will stay just as strong.
  18. Im just over a month out too and slowly lost 2/3 of the tranpslanted hair. Surprisingly, about 1/2 or so is still growing. I too am seeing the black dots and pretty sure they are new hairs coming in as Ive been watching them come in. The ones I watched are definitely growing. Now I cant wait for all the stuff to grow.
  19. I had touch up on the corners of my forehead nearly 5 weeks ago and wear my hair in a way that few people see the corners of my forehead so Im fortunate to wear it normal and no one notice anything. i've always wondered what people tell others when the entire top of the head is shaved down for transplants and they have a huge scar in the back. Aside from telling the truth or saying they were in an accident, what else is there to tell others?
  20. It wasnt until my late teens that I had a realistic look at my forehead and hairline. I really started freaking out that I was going bald. The front of my hairline has always been high and the corners have been really far back. Maybe you just really never noticed how high your hairline is or maybe you are just getting a maturing hairline. Being 39, I have had much recession at all....some, but not much. There were people in high school that had great hair but went bald in their early to mid 20s...so really you may not have much to worry about.....I wish you the best!
  21. Ive been on Propecia for nearly 3 months and in fact have increased erections and sex drive.....It wasnt bad before taking Propecia, but seems to have gotten better. Ive been told my increased sex drive would decrease in a week or two, but to date, it hasnt. Im on the fence on stopping it once my HT fully grows in.....
  22. I too was born with a hairline that was receding. The corners of my forehead have always been wayyyy back and the front part of the hairline was super high, but the good thing for me is that Ive kept most of my hair and I am 39. I just had the corners of my hairline touched up and in fact, have hair where I never had it. The front hairline, at most, went back a 1/4 inch. It's ironic that some of the people I went to school with had hair I envied....but they were bald by their mid 20s. So I guess I cant complain too much..... I too wanted a hairline that I never had in my teens, and may do so at some point. I wear my a way that it covers up the corners of my hairline that had transplants done a month ago. I may, in a couple of years, get the front lowered some...but am afraid to. I am so used to having a high hairline that I am actually used to it...plus, should I go bald, it's less donor hair that I would to use elsewhere.
  23. At first glance it does look a little high, but take these into consideration: (1) you have lost most of your hair to the point you have the horseshoe look, so it most likely wont go much further if any (2) the doctor alot of times, takes into consideration where you hair is the thickest, so maybe that's where it was deemed to get the most hair (3) if it does go further the scar showing would be minimal - that could easily be touched up with another session The way I see it, the worst case scenario, you can still get a session in there to cover it up in the future, if needed. So long term you can work through it one way or another....
  24. I can tell you what I tried this time around to prepare for my HT. Ive heard of some cases where people's hair kept growing after it was transplanted and didnt shed, but rather kept on growing. These cases were far and few. I really wanted to give it my awe into being one of those rare cases. Some history about me....Ive done cardio exercising 3-4x a week for the past couple of years so I knew my circulation was good. I have been on Rogaine for 15+ years. Once I noticed that I was starting to thin some on my hairline, I started Propecia, which I was on 6 weeks prior to my HT. (As a side note, I did have a HT in 1996, but the work wasnt done so well). I have also been drinking freshly squeezed orange juice 4-5x a week probably 6 months or so before my HT. I have also been taking a HAIR AND NAILS vitamin supplement, which is a Rite Aid brand, for probably a year. These supplements really made my fingernails strong and my hair grow faster. To prepare for my HT, I brought fresh fruit and vegatables into my diet 2 weeks or so before surgery. This included broccoli, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and apples. I also started drinking ALOT of bottled water a week before surgery. I am now 3.5 weeks out of my HT. I still continue on the fresh fruit and veggies, as well as the vitamins, Propecia, and Rogaine. Sadly, I have lost about 2/3 of the transplanted hair, but the stuff that is there is growing. Hopefully it will stay. I also noticed at the 3 week post-op mark that I have alot of new thick stubbles coming in already, which is a good sign. I was anticipating that to happen at the 3-5 month mark. Being pale skinned, I was realistic into thinking that my skin would stay pink for a couple of months. It's almost back to it's normal color, which I am guessing is from the fresh foods, mainly broccoli and freshly squeezed orange juice. I did stop using Rogaine a week before surgery and started it up about a week after surgery. All of my white scabs were gone by day 5. I dont know if this is helpful i anyway, but I am healing up ALOT faster than I anticipated and am happy that some of the hair has seemed to stay and grow, and new hairs are on their way in. I do think the only thing I wouldve liked to have tried was L-Arginine. Ive been on it in the past and it's really good for putting Nitric Oxide into your blood and keep the circulation better. Maybe I'll try that next time around if/when I need some touch up work.
