Greetings all, I started back on the Finasteride at the end of last month after a taking a break for a while due to sides. Currently taking one quarter of a Propecia tablet every MWF and will gradually increase the dosage to one Propecia tablet every MWF. I'm thinking this is already effecting my libido - so does this mean that the Finasteride is also starting to work on my hairloss? Mind you as I said I'm only taking a quarter of a tablet every MWF for the moment. Thanks

hi deppmode did you choose anyone yet? Eman hit the nail on the head regarding choosing your HT doc. I flew from Dublin to Ottawa and it was a breeze, Rahal's clinic is located near a very good Hotel 'Adams Hotel' which is just a 5min taxi drive away from the clinic with thier own regular friendly taxi driver 'Mo'. hi, I started taking finasteride 1mg MWF this week after a 7month break due to sides. Maybe i might increase the dosage to 1mg EOD. Anybody got any idea how long it may take for me to feel the benefits of the finasteride? I've noticed I'm shedding more hair on my hair-brush, when i see that i get a bit concerned. Cheers

hi everyone, i must be about 7months into my ht, i had about 2500gfts in the frontal area. Recently i noticed that my right side is less dense above the right temple area and the hairline is more irregular (kinda patchy) opposed to my left side hairline which is perfect and as i said it appears to be a lot more dense overall on the left side also. I know I've got another 7 months to mature etc so i hope my right side improves. Any thoughts? Anyone else experience this? thanks in advance.

Hi Can't decide, I think theres only two real DHT inhibitors. 1) is Finasteride (Propecia/Proscar) and 2) Dudasteride (Advodart) now from what i heard about Dudasteride is........." concerns have been raised about duasterides unknown longterm effects among males. Duasteride is a much more potenet drug then finasteride it suppresses two kinds of 5 alpha reductase(5AR)- these are the ezymes responsible for testosterones conversion into dht. finasteride only blocks the 5ar type 2 enzyme, duasteride blocks the 5ar type 1 enzyme which is found in the human brain, its function in the brain has not yet been identified. These are the reasons that duasteride could be dangerous because we simply do not know the long term systematic effects of the drug" I've had sides from Finasteride also but hope to give it another run again shortly. Not sure if i would take Dudasteride

i was at the dentists yesterday for the first time since i had my ht 6 months ago and i hadn't bothered to get a haircut yet so the ht hair at the front is shorter/thiner then the rest of my long main of hair. I had thought about a canceling the appointment or getting a haircut before hand to disguise it but I thought I don't care and i suppose he's obviously a relatively intelligent professional. Might have had one him self. But yeah took off my coat and hat and sat in his chair i could feel him glance at my hair for a moment. Also my mother who I haven't told, she originally just kept saying you got new hair sprouting etc. But I'm still wearing a hat most of the time, I'll get a haircut next week i think and give my good friend the hat a break

when i was a teenager, i never dreamed of going bald, it was something that happened to someone else. Then at 19 i noticed recession at the temples i still remember that day. Even into my twenties i refused to except it was happening. Also at that age you've barely lived and your still growing up, so for me i had nearly lost my hair before i knew what to do with it if ya get me. This is something that happened to me a while ago, i was pretty drunk in a niteclub and i seen this chick I use to know from years ago she was always an unlikeable person but anyhow i knew she was in a longterm relationship and i just popped over to say hello. As i stood next to her i noticed how great she looked and I commented on this, i just said something like "damn your looking so well" you really are. You look really good" that kind a thing. Anyway i payed her some compliments that were all innocent and then after a bit she turned around and said something like "I like your hair, you've always had it that way but it suites ya" (I'd been forced to wear my hair kinda like a Beatles haircut for a loooooog while - ya know with a fringe covering the hairloss at the front)At the time I didn't think much of it i just took it as my cue to leave but thinking back I'm thinking she probably had a face full of botox and maybe she thought i was asking her if she had something done? Or maybe she just wanted me to piss off? Or more then likely she was saying you could do with a little touch up your self! Now leave me alone. I think after that i started wearing a hat all the time cos i was sick and tired of that hair style myself and refused to shave my head. Now I'm nearly 7 months into a ht and its looking damn good.

The actual procedure is the easiest part,its a breeze, well it was for me i had about 2500gfts. Just bring entertainment especially if your staying alone in the hotel i.e. laptop with dvd movies, net, games. Guys I seriously got the fear and nearly broke down. I was lying on that bed at 90 degrees or whatever for 3 fu*king days watching Canadian tv which has a commercial break every five minuets for cancer care or mobility buggies, or alzheimer's disease. I felt like Dorethy in the 'Wizard of Oz' "theres no place like home". I'd also advise not to get very drunk in the airport prior to your flight like i did, bad idea. I hadn't slept properly for maybe 3days prior to my procedure because of traveling and i couldn't sleep in the airport, airplane, i was too excited in the motel the nite before to get a good nites sleep. And then after spending the best part of a day lying in the chair getting my procedure with Rahal. That night i got a real strange cramp in my neck, my neck kept contorting sideways and i had the most awful night in bed thinking that there was something wrong with my neck muscles and id have to go the hospital etc etc. I had the fear big time no messing about. I think this was all probably derived from lack of sleep, sitting on the train, in the bar, in the airplane, sitting up in bed, the procedure etc. So make it your business to get proper sleep prior to your procedure and bring entertainment and it will be a fun break.

Thanks Irish, that sounds good. Have some generic propecia from them can try that out, its so much easier then cutting a round generic Proscar tab into 5ths, if ur only trying to take 1mg of it. On your current regime you state your taking 1/4 Proscar a day, did you buy that from 4rx.com? I've just been on the live chat with them and they said they don't carry Proscar. Yeah I'm getting those annoying emails for viagra etc aswell.

hey Irish, where do buy your Proscar from? I too am from Ireland, i can't remember where i bought my last batch of generic Cipla Proscar from. Also I donno about the 4rx place they sell finasteride made by Genpharma which could be dodgy. I'm finding it harder to find a place who'll post decent generic stuff to Ireland. I have been considering buying Finpecia (Cipla) from Hairlosstalk's site cos i heard its legit but its kinda expensive. Thanks

hey Take a Chance, I think anybody who got sides like you would quit it. Propeciahelp sounds pretty bad for those folk. And regarding dosage i think some people on the forms are pretty crazy taking doses like 1.25+mg a day and some dudasteride thrown in for good measure, i think thats a bit mad. But anyway i found some Proscar by Cipla in my room and some Finasteride by Genpharma. Im gonna start back on the Proscar 1mg EOD maybe the end of the month. (I dont know if that Genpharma stuff is legit) If the only sides i get is being a little less horny i can live with that to have hair and feel better about myself. Loosing my hair would be devastating, i think i'd look horrible bald and it would have a real negative effect on me. Also I had a piece of bone taking from my skull and grafted to my cheek to treat a fractured cheek-bone so now i have a dent on the top of my head. I never thought i would have had a dent in my head after surgery, i thought i'd just have a scar, the surgeon never mentioned it. I might have chosen to take the bone from my hip instead, oh well.

hey, the thought of taking dudasteride has crossed my mind because i got sides from the the finasteride. I may start back on the Fin or try Dudasteride. Anyone know how safe Dudasteride is? Are there similar sides? Any advice? Whats a safe small dosage to maintain? thanks

hey Take a Chance, did you have a ht? What's your experience with finasteride? I wonder if your libido can be restored with out regular meds? My doctor is the one who originally provided my first 2/3 scripts for Proscar (after some arm twisting) before i started buying it on the net. I don't think i'd feel right going back to the docs after she was so reluctant to proscribe Proscar in the first place. Also Propecia is not available here in Ireland, i donno why, maybe the FDA didn't approve it here. Anyway my lack of hornyess is not that big an issue right now or i would have gone to the doctor by now regardless and i mean i still get horny if i look at porn. Maybe it might be an issue if i was in a relationship. I can check out Propeciahelp.com for more info, regards

hi, i was about one year on 1mg ED when i started noticing decreased sex drive but nothing major, then a few months after that brain fog, not feeling great, so i cut them down to 1mg EOD. This got rid of the brain fog etc. But then after that came weaker sensation of orgasms but i rode it out (no pun intended)so about 2years and a HT later i gave the finasteride a break. Everythings fine orgasm wise, however I'd say my desire to have sex is maybe 85% give or take 5%. I mean i used to be as horny as I ever was, like an 18 year old boy. I think theres prob plenty of folk who have compromised there libido a little for the security of having hair which i can appreciate. I'm hoping i can start back again soon. I have to make a decision, i'd like to maintain with the help of meds. Thanks

hey K_2009, i know i had a ht and currently not on meds. But yeah I'd say there's plenty here on the forum not taking meds with ht's. there prob the type of people who can really afford ht's and have good donar supply so its not such a big deal to shell out 10k for a ht here and there. Losing your native hair behind your transplanted hair would be upsetting and you'd be back to where you started but fu*king your balls and dick up would be a lot worse I'd say, from what I briefly read on Propciahelp.com where some people sounded pretty messed up from taking finasteride to deal with the very real issue of losing their hair. I'll think I'll look into Advodart or give Propecia another go when it feels right.

yeah i wanna find something to replace finasteride cos i also got sides which have all subsided although i reckon i'm still not as horny as i use to be. Ive only been off it 6months. But i too a have ht in the front to think about so if my hair behind it starts going i'd say i wont be too happy to say the least. I donno about this Advodart stuff. Tick Tock Tick Tock...

hey everyone, i was interested in getting some thoughts on my current situation. I had a HT about 6months ago and took a break from Propecia (1mg EOD) shortly after. So I've been off the Propecia for 6months now, I took a break because my libido was being affected. Anyhow 6months down the line, being frank, the pluming is pretty much back to normal but my desire to have sex hasn't returned to what it was. I was thinking about starting on Propecia again at the end of the month but I'm not sure now. I may wait a little longer to see if my libido improves even more before i start again. Has anyone had a similar experiences to mine? How long did it take for your libido to return 100% etc? Did you start back on the drug and sustain libido etc. Cheers

yes, i'm in similar shoes to you, i was just about to do a new post. By the sound of what your saying it don't look to good. You could ride it out for a while but it looks like you might be one of those folks who cant take the drug. As the other guy said it wont effect your transplanted area but a large section of your native hair will be at the mercy of DHT/ your hormones etc. You could be more specific about your HT details regarding what area of your head was treated etc. Your lack of sex drive is probably derived from Proscar, it really amuses me how people blame stress and say "it's all in your head dude" no mate it's the finasteride. You say your taking a 1/4 of Proscar EOD, thats one Proscar split in 4. You could try taking a break for a couple of weeks, then you could try 1mg EOD, that could do away with your brain fog, dizzyness and maybe resurrect your Libido. Beware and goodluck

hey everyone, this might be a silly question but i thought it was no harm to ask. I'm about 6months into my HT and haven't had a hair cut in over a year probably. I'm wearing my hair long with a baseball cap and letting the HT grow away. Is this okay? Or should i have the new hair cut to help it mature etc. I like my hair long but also because my new hair is a different length compared to the rest and still maturing/developing, so I'm not in any hurry to get a trim. I suppose I'm still a bit self-conscious of the HT. cheers
