Senior Member hair_care Posted July 12, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 12, 2008 Hi Guys My question is about the blood work that we need to have done before a HT. Are there any specific things we need to look for in our blood tests or is it just a general precautionary step, your thoughts on this please. Regular Member Clive McQuire Posted July 12, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted July 12, 2008 Hair-care I think you will find that the blood test is to identify if you have any blood borne disease, such as HIV, HEP B/C. This i'm sure is to protect the doc and his technicians during the procedure, as there is a fair bit of bleeding from scalp incisions. Your Doc should provide you with a detailed check list of tests to be performed prior to any surgery. All the best Clive.
Senior Member Dewayne Posted July 12, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 12, 2008 Clive is right, this is solely for the doctor and staff. In fact, Dr. Cooley didn' require me to have any bloodwork at all. My first transplant 17 years ago required it and that $100 always bothered me. 100? Senior Member Smoothy Posted July 13, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 13, 2008 Yes, they are testing for mainly HIV/AIDS, Hep B/C. Many clinics request this especially if you are new to them and some even if you are a repeat beyond 2 yrs. It is for the safety of both patient and doctor/staff. On the occassions I had to get a test, 1 time I had to do it where I lived at a local lab that that clinic used nationally, then another time I did it in the clinic office. Both times, it was included in the "price per graft" quote and I didnt see it itemized or charged seperately. Best of luck.
