Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted March 16, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted March 16, 2010 This fellow had a small strip at a nearby clinic a few years ago. He has chosen to shave his head and desired scar revision. We discussed FUE into this scar, but he wanted to try excision first. Shown are preop, intraop, and day 8 pictures. He is back to shaving his head now, and hopefully his strenous workout routine will not widen out "my" scar. We closed him with extra long lasting deep sutures in a total of 3 layers... Nevertheless, he may need a small number of FUE's into this next year. Time will tell. But I am hopeful that we have made a big change in his scar's noticability. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA William H. Bill - Seemiller
Dr. Lindsey, It doesn't look like his original scar was all that bad, especially since it isn't all that long. Doesn't the hair on the back of his head adequately conceal it? Or is his goal to wear his hair as short as possible? Of course, as we know, he won't be able to sport a completely shaved look without seeing visible signs of scarring. Hopefully his new scar will be even less noticeable after it completely heals. Best wishes, Bill
Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted March 17, 2010 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 17, 2010 I'd agree. If he would just keep his hair the length that it was on day 8...he would not have needed anything in my opinion. BUT, as he had disasterous frontal work and wanted to shave his head for the forseeable future, he opted for scar revision and I agreed with his reasoning. I do think its conceivable that we'll need to do a very small FUE into the scarline next year if he widens at all. His skin is so white compared to his dark hair, that even a small line...imperceptible with a crew cut, will stand out with his shaved head. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA William H. Senior Member dakota3 Posted March 17, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted March 17, 2010 BUT, as he had disasterous frontal work and wanted to shave his head for the forseeable future, he opted for scar revision and I agreed with his reasoning. I shave my head for the exact same reason. To me it's the lesser of 2 evils to have the scar showing rather than the bad HT work I had done. Although the scar makes me extremely selfconcious. I do agree however that the scar was not all that bad but only he can make the decision based on how much the scar bothered him.
Senior Member Dewayne Posted March 17, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted March 17, 2010 Dr. Lindsey gets the Oscar for most realistic pics. That fourth one still has my wife shook up. That's raw as hell! I think it'll look much better though. 100?
