Regular Member TheDarkHour Posted October 8, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted October 8, 2023 I've watched all these videos on YouTube, including Melvin's regarding this but I'm finding it terribly difficult to sleep. The neck pillow just feels too hard on my neck and exacerbates the pain on my donor area. Can't sleep on my back because then the donor area hurts. I also usually sleep on my side so even if it wasn't painful I'd still find it difficult to sleep. Yesterday I managed to sleep but woke up twice finding myself sleeping on the side while still wearing the neck pillow.
Valued Contributor Gatsby Posted October 8, 2023 Valued Contributor Share Posted October 8, 2023 You have to think of the end goal post op. Sleep will be pretty average at best for the first few days at least. I think you need to elevate yourself higher in bed. Place two or three pillows behind you and one under each arm so you are propped up. With a neck pillow on you will find you are almost sitting up by eventually you will sleep. All the best. Moderators Al - Moderator Posted October 8, 2023 Moderators Share Posted October 8, 2023 Sleeping in a recliner chair with a neck pillow worked best for me. It kept me at a proper angle needed after the transplant and without putting a lot of weight from my neck onto the pillow. 1 Al Forum Moderator (formerly BeHappy) I am a forum moderator for hairrestorationnetwork.com. Senior Member Savemyhairline Posted October 8, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted October 8, 2023 After the first few nights, I transitioned to my side while using the neck pillow propped up on a couple regular pillows. I’m a side sleeper and cannot really sleep well at all on my back. My clinic said this was fine, and I’m sure I did not have anything touch the recipient area (pretty hard to so long as you are wearing the neck pillow). It probably isn’t great for your neck to do this, but it allowed me to get some sleep and I didn’t hurt my neck so it worked out fine.
Senior Member TheGreatPretender Posted October 8, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted October 8, 2023 I slept pretty well after practicing it for like two weeks straight. It became second nature almost.

Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted November 17, 2023 Administrators Share Posted November 17, 2023 You will sleep, believe me, once you’re exhausted it’ll happen. I watch ASMR videos to help me get sleepy. Also, get a soft neck pillow. Maybe the one you have isn’t good. I’m a paid admin for Hair Transplant Network.
