Am I a FUE canditate? NW6-7

Recommended Posts

Essentially, I got SMP done in 2014, and have shaved ever since.

I have not used any medications in order to try to preserve my hair, I have even used DHT based steroids, such as Proviron and primobolan so likely I have lost as much as I possibly can by now.

This picture is from 2014, right before I got SMP:

Now, I grew my hair a little more than I used to do now, and I estimate there is *complete* hair loss in the following area right now:

And when I say completely hair loss, I mean complete.

Is there any chance that I could possibly have FUE to restore these areas? my hair is typical thin scandinavian/nordic hair. I've always assumed that I'm not a candidate but I would like to hear from others if I got any options at all.

Very blurry photos, you need better quality photos from your back and sides donor.

If these pics are 7-8 years old and you have been using steroids then you will most certainly have lost further hair since then. The other thing is that you would really need an in person consultation as SMP can give the illusion of more available grafts than you actually have. As a Norwood 7 myself this certainly was the case for me. The only way to tell where your current hair loss is at is to grow your hair out for two weeks. All the best.

Asking whether you are a good candidate for HT based on photos from 8 years ago with balding progression since then might not be the best approach.

Just use your phone to take some snapshots of your head (2023 version).

@Realism,

I think in order to answer your question, we really need to discuss what you mean by “candidate“.  If you’re asking if it’s possible to restore a full looking head of hair over in Norwood six or seven area with hair transplant surgery (regardless of whether it’s FUE or FUT), then the answer is no. You’re not an ideal candidate for surgery.

If you’re asking if a qualified FUE surgeon can re-create a conservative, looking hairline with some coverage in the first couple zones behind the hairline… possibly even into the mid scalp depending on your donor availability while leaving your crown bald, then, yes, this may be possible

That said, I do agree that we would need to see some current photos that are of better quality… Including pictures of your toner area.

I hope this helps.

I think the recurring questions about being or not being a candidate is very subjective. Therefore imo no one should answer this question without knowing your expectations.

For example: If you rather have low(er) density hair instead of no hair, nobody should say you're not a candidate only based on some pics without info.

Hey guys, I saved hair for like a bit over 2 weeks now.

Hah, I haven't saved hair for this long for over 8 years, but yeah the hair loss is very apparent now. Keep in mind I got SMP.

So give it to me raw, I have actually saved my hair because I'm gonna try a hair system, but there is no way I have enough donor to cover the completely bald top of my head right.

Your donor looks thin/sparse, in my opinion.

You've got alot of real estate up top to cover and very limited donor supply.

If you relocate hair from the donor into the hairline and then all the way back, sure you could get some up there, but I feel like density would be so low you'd wonder why you chose to do it.

Devil's advocate though, you have ideal contrast between hair/skin color so that you can likely get by with much much less than someone like me with very fair complexion and jet black hair which would make my density in your situation post HT look like nothing.

Yeah makes complete sense. I guess my best option is to use a hair system until technology hopefully advances

Not disagreeing with that, but if you've been doing SMP for a long time and maybe want to get a more realistic look, it may not be a bad idea to get a thin covering of transplanted hair all over, especially at the front. That could let you do a nice buzz cut and give you that 3D appearance and feel to it, so it doesn't look so much like SMP while still appearing thicker than it is because of the SMP. I'm not a big fan of SMP myself, but for someone who has been doing that, this could be an improvement.
