Topical finasteride, depression?

Recommended Posts

Hello, is it possible that after one application of about 2 ml of topical finasteride to the scalp, I got depressed? The day after using it, I felt detached and so emotionally flattened, today is the second day and I have the same, I have no idea if it is winding up or it can actually be like that and after what time it will come out of circulation? If anyone is willing to sell it, unfortunately I do not greet me and I count on help.

Szakal1222,

I have seen reports that finasteride has been linked to depression and anxiety however, I can’t imagine that you would experience this after single application.   Moreover, the reports that I’ve seen are referring to oral finasteride which is way more potent than topical.  That said, I suppose anything is possible.  At the end of the day, you’re going to have to decide whether or not you want to try finasteride again and see if it was coincidence or if it was really causing some psychological issues for you.

Best wishes,

That sounds like a placebo. Generally side effects take more than one application. There could be other factors causing you to feel depressed and detached. Hair loss itself can bring on these emotions.

With the greatest of respect I can't see any correlation. Even if a person was on anti depressants for example and stopped cold turkey it would take more than one day for depression to re emerge (not exactly comparing apples for apples). But for 2 ml's of topical finasteride to pass through the epidermis, make it's way into the bloodstream, through the liver, past the blood brain barrier and change your brain chemistry would take some time. Wishing you all the best.

Sometimes, our systems can respond unexpectedly to medications or treatments. Feeling emotionally flattened and detached is undoubtedly concerning, and if it persists, it might be a good idea to reach out to a healthcare professional for advice.
