EMERGENCY!!! Clumps of hair are falling out!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys... about a month and a half ago I was prescribed a med called clomid to up my testosterone level which was low at the time. I've been experiencing hair loss from it since then. But I stopped taking it 3 weeks ago but I still lose lots of hair which makes 0 sense. Why is this happening if I stopped taking the med 3 weeks ago?!?? What can I do to reverse this side effect?? Do I take female hormones??

I'm very very confused and desperate!!!

Are you on a DHT blocker?

Hi.. no I'm not using any DHT blockers. If youre talking about finasteride my doc strongly suggested I never take it.

This goddamn is really killing my spirit. I had a meeting to go to and I missed it cuz of this shit. Right now I'm not looking forward to anything in life. This is the worst medication I ever had and I wish the company who made it and the doc who prescribed it would completely.

Sounds like telogen effluvium triggered by your testosterone therapy increase. You can read more about it at the link below. Long term, you may want to discuss with your doctor how much higher to increase your testosterone to maximize your overall health while also trying to minimize the potential for hair loss. If your hair follicles are genetically programmed to be sensitive to DHT, having higher testosterone means more of it is going to get converted to DHT, which is the primary cause of male pattern baldness. And that kind of hair loss is permanent.

Experiencing a sudden change in hormone levels can trigger TE hair loss. Similar to an environmental change, hormone fluctuation can cause hair follicles to go into a prolonged resting state. If TE occurs during pregnancy, hair growth is usually restored within six months to a year after childbirth.

Judging by his previous post, questions like that might get you on his to-die-list. :D

To be serious, this does suck especially if his doctor didn't give him a headsup that hormone tinkering like this can trigger temporary sheds. Which is all it sounds like given how quickly its come on. The best way forward, if you have unhealthy testosterone levels, is to stick with the therapy and ride out the hair shedding, wear a hat when you can.

But how do you know this is a temporary shed? The poster above you said its permanent which the idea itself devastates me right now and in the future. I've only been on clomid for 19 days. I stopped taking it 3 weeks ago and its still causing big hair loss. I dont get it.

Dude... did you not read my post?? I will NOT take the med ANYMORE. Yeah, wear a hat to work.. like that wont get me fired. Be real

Testosterone therapy and MPB go together like drinking and driving.

Did you make the Clomid-prescribing doctor aware that hair restoration is a goal of yours? I wouldn't blame the doctor at this point, if he is not aware of this.

Hi.. from the lower quote you posted, it may be possible that this hair loss is temporary. Fyi, I was on this clomid piece of shit for only 19 days. And stopped taking it 3 weeks ago. Btw, whats "TE hair loss?" Let me know what you think given these facts. Thanks

Based on your replies your testosterone level seem to also go up when you engage on the forum. Sound like you're about 21 now. :D Its cool, you can vent a little given the circumstances.

That poster above me, Melvin the forum moderator, didn't actually say that he thought the loss was permanent. He just asked if you were on a DHT blocker, which would help to minimize any loss that was being caused by DHT.

The TE in "TE hair loss" is just an abbreviation for Telogen Effluvium. Which is what it sounds like in your situation, just being a matter of weeks starting and stopping the medication. The temporary shedding could go on for a few months and should start growing back within 6 months.

Did a search on that medication, looks like you are one of the 1% with the hair loss. Just give it some time.

The following adverse events have been reported in fewer than 1% of patients in clinical trials: Acute abdomen, appetite increase, constipation, dermatitis or rash, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, hair loss/dry hair, increased urinary frequency/volume, insomnia, light-headedness, nervous tension, vaginal dryness, vertigo, weight gain/loss.

I'm confused by your reply. How can someone's T level go up when they go on the net? And no I'm not 21 I'm 52 which I stated before.

I wasnt referring to melvin I was referring to someone else.

Hope its temporary even though my uro said it was permanent which makes no sense cuz I've been on the med for 19 days only.

I'm not sure if youre trolling or not. This is a serious matter in my life and I dont need jokes/trolling. I would appreciate it if you'd refrain from such behavior.

Honestly, Clomid is a shit drug to up testosterone to begin with. I would say visit another Dr and tell him/her your side effects and try something else.

I know it's hard but stress can make things worse. You seem extremely upset by this. I know it's easier for me say but try to think rational about it. Likely it's a temporary shed. I think the point was that you are acting 21 about this. Cursing and wishing people would die doesn't sound like a 51 year old.

Yes I made my uro aware of this. Then when I called him today I only got his nurse at which point I demanded to talk to the doc who was busy with another client. She asked me to hold and I was left waiting for 10 minutes until she replied again and said she talked to the doc and he recommends I talk to a dermatologist. I really hate docs.Doctors and medical stuff are overrated

I completely agree 500%. Appreciate that suggestion. Matter of fact I scheduled to see an endocrinologist for tomorrow morning. Hopefully he can prescribe a med that can counter the extra testosterone with maybe female hormones, I dont know, just something cuz this is not fair.

I really hate docs and god himself.

Can I act like 21 then? Do I have a right to be upset and act any way I want? You dont understand cuz you not affected by this. Youre acting like a 13 year old who doesnt understand what others are going through.

You should chill aswell, you are on a forum with people trying to help, but keep insulting people over and over when we try to help you out.

It is likely a temporary shed, I have no experience personally from Clomid or any Testosterone therapy, but from what I have been reading it messes with Estrogen levels aswell.

Bro, you gotta chill out! I wasn't even the one who said you're acting 21 but I think it's clear in this thread who's acting like a child. Read through your own thread with a clear mind and I think you'll see your reaction is childish.

Might be worth putting things into perspective. Try to remember that someone always has it worse than you. Not to bring up Ukraine but just look around at what other people are going through. Whenever I have a hard time, this is what I try to do. Either way, I wish you luck.

If you were just talking to yourself, then sure its fine to only focus on what you need. But you're on a forum here talking with others, and someone in their 50s dropping f-bombs and wishing death on others because he's shedding some hair is quite funny and serious at the same time. I have confidence you'll eventually see that yourself as well. Best of luck getting your testosterone levels straightened out, because that is the more important thing in the long run. And hopefully that hair starts growing back sooner than later.

The best way to counteract the effects of DHT is to get on finasteride. There’s a topical solution, much better than taking female hormones, which would be disastrous.

You definitely have every right to act any way you want but don't be upset with others when your actions trigger negative responses. We are trying to help you. While I agree this is sad, far worse things can happen in life. Especially since this is likely temporary.

When you compare ukraine to my situation youre actually comparing mountains to molehills. You cant do that. Anyway, hope you understand other people's situations and step in their shoes... just chill from judging/trolling them.

@dtap

Relax, there are solutions if you can stay levelheaded. We’re not the enemy here. If you’re going to raise your testosterone, you need to be on a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, to prevent DHT conversion. My suggestion is to get on a high quality topical solution like Dr. Hassons at Xyonhealth. This would counter the effects.

I would also suggest getting a new endocrinologist. He’s prescribing Clomid which is an estrogen modulator. If you have low testosterone, the best solution would be to take testosterone weekly, or HCG. Of course, this is only after you’ve made lifestyle adjustments. There are a lot of factors that can contribute to low testosterone, including diet and sleeping patterns, and alcohol and drug consumption. I do believe this drug may be affecting behavior as well.
