FUE 3434 total and 7 days post FUE Dr says no minoxidil for 3 months !

Hi All

I’m 7 days post 1st ever FUE at age 50, I’ve been taking biotin/saw palmetto/collagen tablets/omeg 3&d3 for as long as I can remember, plus using at night pre op I’d apply topical 15% minoxidil with 1% finasteride and during the day I’d use 6% minox with 1% fin, started losing hair at 25, so I’ve been throwing everything at it for 25yrs to keep for as long as possible, but DHT finally won the battle !  so it was shave it or get an FUE.

I’m 7 days post FUE, and had a meeting with the clinic today for wash and check up, with my next checkup in 3 months, but the clinic are saying no minoxidil for 3 months post FUE, I’ve been on minoxidil for 25 years and I stopped 1 week pre FUE, but do  you think that’s right to stay off it for 3 months ?

My main concern is what hair I was hanging onto because of the minoxidil with now vanish after going cold turkey on minoxidil, also the finasteride I was on was infused with the minoxidil too, but I’m getting around this by switching to oral 1mg finasteride which I’m not happy about as sides which is why I used topical finasteride….

My head is still quite sore/red so I was going to start back on minoxidil at the 14day mark, but now the Dr is saying not for 3 months…. Can anyone see any advantage of stopping for 3 months while it all settles down ? Or heard of this being advised…..

I get my topical minoxidil/finasteride shipped to uk from USA site minoxidilmax, the night version is 15% with fin, but day bottle is 6% with fin, so what harm could I do on newly transplanted hair if I just start on 6% with fin in 14days post op

FUE total 3434 and  8578 hairs, I had a lot  for 5 and 6’s so excellent donor, I’ve posted some pics I’ve taken over last 6 days for anyone to comment on….

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

I had FUE done by Dr, Konior and was told to use minoxidil for the 1st couple of weeks (after maybe a week out from the surgery I think) if I wanted to speed up the growing (and who wouldn't?).  Funny how there is no consensus.  I did use it and got good growth pretty early.

Cheers for the reply Tao, as you said who’d not want to have good growth at an early stage by adding minoxidil asap rather than waiting 3 months, the only negative that I can see from using it too soon is a red scalp, but as I’ve been on minoxidil for 20 plus years my head is use to it and I don’t get ant redness/itching. Unless someone can give a negative I think I’ll start just the 6% with fin from 14 days post FUE, as from what I’ve read this is when the grafts  are fully anchored in.

Cheers for the feedback Tao/BDK081522, when you started after the 2 weeks post FUE did your scalp go red ? Or noticed any increased shed ? I’ve been using 15% with fin at night and 6% with fin during the day for years pre FUE, so stopped around 2 weeks ago, but keen to get back on it asap as I don’t know how many hairs I have are because of using this combination.

Also to BKJ081522, how you getting on with RU58841 ? The same site I get my topical minoxidil/finasteride combination from started selling it, but there’s such little information on it ……

I never experienced any additional redness from minoxidil use post op. RU has been working well for me. I'm essentially using it to prevent further loss so I can't say it has regrown anything but I can say it hasn't hurt anything. No sides and my hair is holding strong so no point to discontinue use.

If your surgeon is concerned about you irritating your scalp , you could ask him if you could try oral minoxidil?

How do you use this, is it a topical daily application? What are the sides meant to be?

I don't personally use it, but yeah, it's supposed to be daily application although I'm sure some use a less frequent dosing schedule.

There are no officially reported sides (only data from primate studies was released, which actually showed no real systemic absorption or sides), but some claim it goes systemic and then causes low androgen symptoms (not just DHT as this competes for all androgens including T). Common ones I've seen are low sex drive and pretty much all the usual suspects, with the addition of cardiovascular issues/heart palpitations and chest pain.

Not saying these are actual sides or not, just that these are what you'll find reported by some users online when they do complain of sides.
