Regular Member Cris Posted February 14, 2021 Regular Member Share Posted February 14, 2021 (edited) Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well! 🙂 I'm 28 yo and I started to lose my hair more noticeably about 4 year ago. So last year I decided to do a hair transplant, which I did 18 days ago on the 28 January 2021. 3500 graphs. Here are some photos before the transplant. Here are some photos post-op: Since my main concern was the crown area, I asked for a "high" hairline to save graphs for the crown. I'm happy with the hairline since I believe it looks more natural. I also noticed that the left side was more homogeneous/consistent than the right side but I thought that with the blood this might be normal. Donor area: 15 days later. This is when I really started be worry about the difference between both sides: Notice that area 1 has almost no graphs inserted and area 2 has a lot of density. It looks really weird when I look in the mirror... 🙁 Is this something to worry about? Am I just being picky? Is there something else that you might have noticed that I should worry about? This is my first post so sorry if I something wrong. Thank you all in advance, Cris Edited February 14, 2021 by Cris

Unfortunately, I'm not sure many went in to the crown/hairline
Senior Member Britanium Posted February 14, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted February 14, 2021 (edited) Usually the clinic would give you a graft count/breakdown and show how many grafts went in to each area. To be honest it seems they didn’t really plan out the share of grafts well. The hairline is pretty dense but it has not been integrated with the surrounding area. The only thing you can do is wait and see how it eventually grows out. Edited February 14, 2021 by JohnAC71 2

I did notice that the technicians were writing the number of graphs on a white board but I was quite tired by the end and I honestly can't remember the exact number or how many went into the crown/hairline areas nor if they actually told me. I choose this clinic because they are well established here in Portugal and I saw good results from their before and afters However, thank you very much for your input John 🙂

I did Minoxidil for 6 months and stopped 2.5 months before the surgery. Never did finasteride and don't intend since i'm not really comfortable in taking pills for hair loss. I might start again on Minoxidil but I think I'll wait on the results of the hair transplant first

Senior Member asterix0 Posted February 14, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted February 14, 2021 I would strongly recommend you reconsider finasteride and minoxidil. Finasteride especially. You had quite extensive hair loss, and the extraction pattern went up quite high in your occipital region. 2
Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted February 15, 2021 Administrators Share Posted February 15, 2021 Looks like shock loss, the surrounding area was densely packed, which could have caused some trauma to that area. Regular Member Kharmacoma Posted March 4, 2021 Regular Member Share Posted March 4, 2021 (edited) Good luck with your hair transplant. I can see that donor area is starting to get thin going downwards. NW6 maybe 7? I would suggest to start finasteride if you want to keep these transplanted hairs for years as your doctor went quite high to extract this amount of grafts. Just my 2 cents. Thanks Kharmacoma, all inputs are welcome. Looks like everyone is recommending that I start finasteride... I'll have to educate myself better on finasteride and see if I want to go down that road. BTW, the last time I went to the clinic they recommended me mesotherapy once a year (12 sessions during 2 months, something like that) and it costs 1k €/year. They said it is better that PRP or minoxidil (no mention of finasteride). To be honest I'm not in the best position financially right now and the next couple of years are going to be hard. Thus, spending 1k € per year on mesotherapy is hard to justify although I can see the benefits. What do you guys think?

Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted March 4, 2021 Administrators Share Posted March 4, 2021 Forget about stuff like that and stick to finasteride which can be purchased cheap. 1 1 I’m a paid admin for Hair Transplant Network. Regular Member Cris Posted April 1, 2021 Author Regular Member Share Posted April 1, 2021 9 week update Looks pretty decent for 9 weeks I would say I decided not to start using finasteride for a few reasons but mainly because its one more thing I have to worry about, and knowing myself I would probably quit after a while, plus here in Portugal you need a prescription in order to buy it, which adds to the trouble, so lets hope I dont regret it.. Thank you for all your advice though 🙂 I will keep posting my progress here! 😉

Regular Member Cris Posted October 6, 2021 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 6, 2021 (edited) Hi everyone! Sorry for not posting an update sooner! My HT just turned 8 months 🥳 I just had a haircut to get a better look at the results and I regrated that immediately! I realized that having longer hair helped a lot in disguising the lack of hair both on the top and also in the donor area. Thus, I'll probably continue to have it longer. Anyway, my thoughts about the results thus far – Overall I think it looks better that It used to before the HT. The crown area (where most of the graphs where used) definitely looks better and pretty natural in my opinion so I'm pretty happy with the results there. The hairline looks ok I think… The main issue I have is that on the right side they implanted a lot of graphs in the hairline and almost nothing just behind the hairline. I had this concern right after the surgery and It turn out to materialize unfortunately. Also both hairlines look different as you can see, not sure is this is on purpose or not but it is not that bad because I don’t think anyone notices it. Regarding the donor area, the only complaint I have is in the red circle on the picture.. looks like overharvast. Another concern I have is that I feel like I lost quite a bit my natural hair recently... if this is due to natural hair loss or shock loss because of the HT is anyone’s guess.. and yes, I know you guys told me to start on finasteride mouths ago so.. yeah should have listened to you guys I want to start on finasteride but I need a prescription so I'm waiting on an appointment with a dermatologist. I'm on Minoxidil for about 5 mouths now. I'm also realizing that I need a long-term strategy for my hair loss, just having the transplant is not enough and unfortunately, I only realized this after the HP. So far this is the plan: 1. Keep doing minoxidil 2. Start on finasteride 3. Determine the feasibility of having another HP with a mix of beard and chest hair If required I would like to get everyone’s opinion on this so will post some chest and beard photos below!
