Regular Member Florence Posted February 5, 2021 Regular Member Share Posted February 5, 2021 Hi all, Has anyone experienced or heard of long-term numbness around the scar area following FUT? I am planning to have FUT done in 2021 and wondered if tissues around the scar can be permanently damaged when the cut is made and go numb. It happens sometimes with less invasive procedure on the surface of the skin. Thanks all
Senior Member Britanium Posted February 5, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted February 5, 2021 Casting my mind back... I wouldn’t say the numbness following my FUTs was long term. I seem to remember the feeling returning back to normal within a couple of months. Same when I had the scar revised.
Senior Member Future Hair Doc Posted February 5, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted February 5, 2021 Great question. This depends a LOT on the skills of the surgeon and often gets neglected when picking a surgeon. The numbness can last up to a few months (sometimes up to 6 months). My advice does not constitute a patient-physician relationship nor as medical advice and all medical questions/concerns should be addressed to your medical provider. Senior Member hairlossPA Posted February 5, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted February 5, 2021 My FUT/donor is still numb and sore after 3 months. It returns to normal bit by bit each day, but it's taking a long time. I'd say its 80% back to being normal
Regular Member Florence Posted February 5, 2021 Author Regular Member Share Posted February 5, 2021 Thank you all! Very helpful to hear your views on this. @hairlossPA is that uncomfortable three months after the HT? Does it hurt?
Senior Member hairlossPA Posted February 5, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted February 5, 2021 no it doesn’t hurt at all. right now I wouldn’t say it’s uncomfortable. more just like “weird feeling” lol
Senior Member baldiee Posted February 6, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted February 6, 2021 Yeah I'm 2 months out and still have numbness at the donor and recipient site. Like everyone said, it can take up to 6 months to get full sensation back. It does not hurt, just a weird feeling like @hairlossPAsaid lol, it's hard to describe it. You can sleep and shower normally.
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted February 6, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted February 6, 2021 Numbness eventually goes away. I've had no long-term nerve damage around the strip scars. Senior Member EvoXOhio Posted February 6, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted February 6, 2021 I’m 6 months out and there’s still some partial numbness between my crown and the FUT scar. It was originally completely numb for months but it is slowly regaining sensation.
