Rogaine/minoxidil sexual side effects?????

I'm here to give you guys an update. Its now been about a year and a month since quitting the Minoxidil 5% and the sexual side effects are still present. Still getting either weak or no morning erections, not waking up rock hard like I used to, random erections throughout the day haven't come back, maintaining an erection during sex is very difficult, and I still get that cold, tight feeling in my testicles/scrotum during the day.

I should note that 5 months ago I found out I had a varicocele in my testicle and thought may have been contributing to my sexual issues. I had an operation to fix the varicocele but it didn't fix my sexual problems. Looking back I do believe that somehow the Minoxidil somehow was responsible for the development of my varicocele as I know that Minox opens up blood vessels which in turn creates our problems. I've also read that Minox can mess with the thyroid and prolactin thus leading to impotence.

This past year has been a nightmare. I'm now beginning to believe that these side effects are going to be either permanent or very long term. I'm just trying to accept this, which is the most difficult thing to do. I'm only 28 years old. Life will certainly never be the same again. I'm thankful that I have a girlfriend who is very understanding.

Where have you heard minox affects prolactin and thyroid hormone???????

Have you had any blood tests done of your hormones and thyroid hormones? Have you ever taken propecia?

If you have done blood tests, do you care to share them with me, Im pretty knowledge with this sort of things since I suffer from side effects after quitting propecia...

Nope, I never used Propecia (I was well aware of all the side effects of that drug so would never touch the stuff). Never had any blood tests done either.

I am young (in my twenties), and NEVER had any impotence issues before I used the Minoxidil. If you read my thread I posted my whole story on there. But to summarize I started using the 2% minoxidil and began experiencing mild ED. A little after that I switched to the 5% and it pretty much killed my libido and ability to hold erections. That's when everything went down hill from loss of morning erections to a shriveled ball sack during the day (a feeling as if I just got into a cold shower), etc.

After I had stopped using the Minoxidil my symptoms never went away. I think that these symptoms are similar to those of Propecia sufferers from what I've read.

I don't know if the Minox had affected my testosterone or if it caused a blood flow issue. I say that I am not sure about the testosterone angle to it because I really didn't lose any muscle mass or facial hair...but I know that's not a full proof way to conclude whether or not my testosterone was compromised. It may have affect both T and blood flow.

I really wish the original poster of this thread would update us on hows he's doing. I'd really like to know if he ever got better.

I have said this before eliminate the problem with a small dose of Viagra!

dude Viagra is just a band-aide to the problem. it doesnt fix the problem. Ive read somewhere that rogaine can mess with gaba or something in your brain. I wish I knew where I read that so I can maybe understand what is happening.

Just had my testosterone tested by my urologist. The nurse told me i tested at 619 and she said the normal range is 241-837. So, it seems my T is rather high (normal for my age).

Apparently the minoxidil didnt mess with my testosterone. So Im now assuming its caused a blood flow issue. Or maybe messed with some other hormone?

Nah, that's not high. its right where it should be. Could have messed with your brain somehow.. by messing with the gaba-a receptors, which lowers your dopamine. get dopamine tested.

Several weeks after starting Minoxidil (= Rogaine) 2%, I experienced lower libido and occasional erectile dysfunction. I did not make the connection until I noticed that one of the rare side effects listed in the Minoxidil leaflet was sexual disturbance. Went to an urologist who said the cause was unlikely to be the Minoxidil, more likely stress or other "psychological" factors. However, the period had not been particularly stressful. Blood test showed no problems. Two weeks after stopping Minoxidil, my libido is returning to normal... Strange. It has never happened before.

i ws also diagnosed with a varicocele a few months after i started using minoxidil and finasteride...n i think it is because of that bt my hair surgeon insists that these drugs cannot cause any such side effects...my urologist also failed to advice me on that..anyways im glad i read ur post cz nw im sure abot the connection between these drugs and my problem..also ive heard soemwhere that a varicocele cn cause ur hair to fall out more, so it is liek a vicious circle.. ive heard that saw palmetto produces the same result as finasteride without any side effects..bt some people think otherwise..pl let me know what do u think

Hello all, I'm suffering from the same side effects and it has been about 8 months since stopping using Rogaine. I am 20 years old. I have less blood flow to my penis throughout the day/less frequent erections/no morning wood. It has been a nightmare and this ordeal has made me extremely depressed. I can still have sex no problem, but overall I have lost quite a bit of size due to less blood flow.

Obsessing about things like I do I haven't stopped looking for an answer. I tried tribulus, cialis, body cleanses, eating extremely healthy, chasteberry (vitex), and resveratrol (natural test booster). Nothing worked except for the resveratrol, the brand I used was called sustain alpha. It's like PCT for steroids that's supposed to increase blood flow to your penis. But it only worked for a little bit when I was done with it, not forever. I used chasteberry because I thought rogaine messed with my prolactin levels but my test levels and prolactin levels were all normal.

I am better than a few months ago but still not the man I used to be. Does anyone have any knowledge of potassium channel inhibitors? I am starting to think that due to dialation of potassium channels, the channels shrink back after use of rogaine and cause the lack of blood flow. I am now taking magnesium and potassium and seeing if there is any effect. Lets solve this together guys!

thanks for you help

take quercetin, chrycin, serrapeptase and the amino acids glycine alanine glutamic acid at 1000mg per day, ginseng, ginkgo biloba and drink noni juice bio-pycnogenol for 3 months with a high dose multi vitamin and mineral supplement and abstain from sex or masturbation for those 2-3 months, then inject a 10mg dose of melanotan2 peptide or brem at low dose of 0.300mg until the 10mg vile is gone. if this don't work which im totally sure will not happen! go ask the bodybuilders the peptide they use to stimulate hp testicular axis. as i cant remember the name it.

you can research this if you want before you try it and if your good you will find the rational that ive not got the time to explain, but im doing more than just throwing you bone here!

Nemo.shark, when you get a chance could you possibly explain the rationale behind that regimen? Did you use it on yourself? Have you heard of success with it in other people? I'm willing to try anything at this point, but just am curious as to how you came up with such a specific course of action? All my research has taught me that the side effects are hormonal, but it seems like you have a different perspective. thanks again for your input

Some people are sexual maniacs that have sex countless times per day and expect to have the same erection as before. Come on, be real. I see more paranoia, sexual mania, and placebo effect than actual Minoxil side-effects in this thread.

No I will not fck off and you better go see a doctor rather than expecting other people's experience on a forum to alleviate symptoms.

What you are experiencing is serious, and all you do is asume, conject and add to the mass paranoia. Just go to a doctor and tell your results.

I am 40+, i have been using the Rogain 5% liquid spray for nearly 6 years then recently i switched to Rogain Foam, for the last 4 years i am observing my sexual apatite and ability is always on the decline side, i thought may be of the age, but that was not true as i run a very healthy life, i exercise at least 4 times a week, i eat healthy, i run for almost 6km with no problem...... i then i switched to Rogain foam which was beginning of this year and my situation start getting worst; especially with ED and now recently i start experiencing sever ED problems, i hardly getting arose not only by wife but even watching extreme hardcore videos, i have difficulties sleeping with my wife, i use to have at least 6 times intercourse a month now i am hardly able to do it once a month!, i hardly getting the hard on, i feel something is lost inside me or changed forever (god forbid). ED and penis size is becoming a serious concerns in my life as i start getting very embarrassed in bed; i dont know what to tell my wife but all in all i start having marriage complications and difficulties to explain this to her. i attributed the cause to Rogain but couldn't find the link until i decided to research this on the Internet and here i find all the post which i really thank all those who have been posting there findings as i am now positive of the main reason behind my ED problem which is purely attributed to the use of Rogain product.

i am in the process of seeing a urologist and i will be sharing my findings with you once i get the feedback. starting from today, i will stop the use of Rogain and hope that it has not caused life time damage in my sexual health condition.

I started using Rogaine about 3 weeks ago. About a week and a half in, I noticed the sexual side effects, looked up if it could be linked to minoxidil. Stopped application immediately after some quick research. A week after and stopping and I'm still having the same problems. How long will this take to leave my system? I've read some people having the problems for weeks, months, years. It's very distressing to think this could be my new sex life.

I have: lower libido, erections are weak and difficult to achieve, watery semen, fewer spontaneous erections, sometimes no morning erections. I'm 23 and have never had anything close to any of these problems. There is no way it's in my head or coincidental. It is the minoxidil.
