How would it be best to get my hair cut before my procedure?

I'm getting the FUT.

Should I come in with my hair long, so there's a lot of donor hair to choose from? Or should I make sure to keep it normal length, so the surgeon has a more accurate view of how much is really missing in the back? When I keep it longer, it tends to cover up the receding hair in the back.

Appreciate nay feedback. Thanks.

For FUT he's going to start by buzzing down the immediate surrounding section where he cuts the strip from anyway, you don't need to worry about keeping it long to help him with making a decision on where to cut in your donor. You need to worry about keeping it long enough so that the hair right above that cut is long enough to hang down and cover over so that people aren't staring at the back of your head wondering if you had recent near life accident, etc. The guy from this image I found has it a bit shorter than I would.

This!  Wear it like you normally do so the surgeon gets an idea of your style.  This will inform the way he makes the recipient incisions.  They will take care of shaving the donor for the strip removal.

Keep it somewhat long. You want your hair to be long enough to cover the area that will be worked on. Directly after the procedure the area without hair will be wider than the actual scar because they will shave a section out where they will be removing the strip, so you'll have a bit of shaved hair above and below the scar line right after the procedure. You may also get some shock loss in the area over the next few weeks. You want your hair long enough to cover it all. Don't worry about how they will work on it. They will shave, trim, put a hair band, whatever to work on the area. It's what they do.
