Regular Member Ticarno Posted October 30, 2019 Regular Member Share Posted October 30, 2019 i been using finasteride and minoxidil for the past 18 month with decent results. i had some side effects with finasteride for the first couple of month, but they are pretty much gone by now. Ive been strongly considering a hair transplant, and i have been told by one of the clinics which i am strongly considering that i have to quit minoxidil and finasteride 2 weeks before the transplant. I know i have to quit minoxidil because it's thinning the blood, but i have never heard og read, that you have to quit finasteride. Is that true? Raphael84
Hi @Ticarno Pre operative instructions differ somewhat from clinic to clinic, but I agree that it is unusual to recommend a patient to discontinue finasteride. Even with oral minoxidil, it is generally fine to continue taking throughout the time of your procedure. Obviously topical applications must be discontinued. Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted November 1, 2019 Administrators Share Posted November 1, 2019 I would suggest asking the clinic the reasoning behind quitting finasteride before surgery. I'm interested to hear their logic. I’m a paid admin for Hair Transplant Network. I do not receive any compensation from any clinic. My comments are not medical advice. LonelyGraft
Like everyone else said this makes absolutely no sense. Most clinics recommend younger patients be on fin to limit shock loss. If this is really what they want u to do then RUN away from this clinic cuz they dunno wtf they r talking about.
