109 days post surgery, Growth in recipient area is going well, however the Alopecia at back of my head ( all in the donor area) seems to spread.

I have had multiple steroid shots yesterday so hopefully it will help to bring under control.

I have mentioned in my previous post that I was taking monolaurin (Glyceryl monolaurate) supplements to boost my immune system which is compromised due to Chron's disease. After speaking to my dermatologist and gastroenterologist, it appears that Hypersensitivity (Chron's disease is a Type 4 Hypersensitivity) to Glycerol Monolaurate is a contraindication. It is highly likely that the Alopecia was induced by the supplement.

The frustrating part of the story is, that I was advised by my dietitian ( who was fully aware of my medical history ) to take monolaurin. Lesson learned.... no more dietitians.

I have stopped taking the tablets a week ago.

The good news is that the problem is not related to the hair transplant surgery

Day 116 post surgery. Had yesterday a hair cut. With regard to the alopecia problem, it seems that the steroid injections have started to kick in. Some hair growth within the bald patch :)

I posted on day 53 and your hair has reached a good length and has gotten thicker in just over 2 months since then. I've 2 questions:

1. In your opinion do you think your hair will thicken up even more after 4 months?

2. Does your hair look thicker in the shower or when submerged in water (when the water stream pushes your hair down)? Or did you ever experience this at any point within the first 4 months?

Hi again,

I do hope that my hair thickens up even more within the next coming months. So far I am pretty pleased with the outcome as I have gained coverage in areas where the hair loss was very prominent.

And yes the hair looks pretty thick when it's wet.

I guess the next 3 month will be very interesting

I have to admit that this has become a bit of an emotional battle. Whilst I am very pleased that the new hair is growing steady, there is the ongoing issue of having to deal with Alopecia areata . For the last couple weeks, I was under the impression that this was triggered by the herbal supplement Monolaurin ( coconut lauric acid). However I still feel that there is connection between the surgery and the alopecia.

It seems that there is new bald patch developing within the temple area.
