Great experience with Luis Nader (Reynosa) - 1750 FUE May 2017

Recommended Posts

TL;DR -- I'll echo what everyone else seems to say. Dr. Nader is an extremely ethical, caring doctor who does truly great work. I highly recommend his services.

Hi all, I wanted to provide a quick review of my great experience with Dr. Nader. As a long-time lurker, I really appreciated the posts from iq732, aWidowsPeek and MrMatt regarding Dr. Nader. All great information that helped me make an informed and correct choice for my hairline.

As a quick rundown of the procedure, I got in touch in Feb 2017 with Dr. Nader over email on his website. Yes, it's a poor website. Yes, he's aware of it. We'll talk more on this at the end. Dr. Nader has recently hired an office manager, Brenda, and she and I were the ones who talked over email regularly. I think what helped me push through the pack was that I sent a bunch of photos and explained that I was ready to start ASAP (I work from home so I have a lot of flexibility on dates). Dr. Nader recommended 3000-3500 grafts which was higher than I expected, but I deferred to his experience. Once we were all set, I locked in a date at the end of May. I flew into McAllen and stayed at their recommended hotel (iStay). Totally a normal hotel near a lot of restaurants and a large mall, so no issues getting food.

The day of the procedure, Dr. Nader's driver picked me up at the hotel at 8am. No cash exchanged hands; Dr. Nader sets all of this up himself. We drove to Reynosa. Super easy--about a 30 min drive. I know there's some worry about danger in Reynosa; personally I had no worries as to my safety at all.

Dr. Nader's facility is clean and nice. I filled out some paperwork at the beginning and then talked with Dr. Nader for about 60-90 minutes. Our conversation focused on general health and my view of my hairline. I.e., what bothered me, where I wanted it to be fixed, etc. To my pleasant surprise, Dr. Nader actually lowered his initial diagnosis of how many grafts I needed. Instead of 3500, we needed half, or 1750. Although Dr. Nader was apologetic (I had sent him some not great photos, I must confess), I found his actions to be highly ethical. He could've kept done 3500 unnecessarily or even lied during the procedure. Instead he worked to give me the proper care, which hurt his own bottom-line. Truly the definition of someone who lives by the Hippocratic oath.

The actual procedure was painless and efficient. Dr. Nader worked with me to game plan where the grafts would go, establishing a hairline that I am very happy with. We went to one room where I laid on my stomach and Dr. Nader removed the donor grafts, which took 60-90 minutes. I then moved to another room and had lunch (provided by Dr. Nader, who kindly took into account my dietary restrictions) and, after an hour, we started with the implantation. Again, no pain or trouble, and Dr. Nader has a perfectly placed TV with about 50-70 US movies loaded up, so I just watched TV during the procedure. Dr. Nader himself, along with one other nurse, implanted every graft, so he is with you at every step of the procedure.

After we were done, the Dr. and I retreated to his office where we discussed post-operation care for 30-45 min. He is extremely articulate and he also gave me his cell phone number and told me to text him photos so he could monitor the progress (and, when I did, he was extremely responsive).

Overall, I'm very happy with my decision to work with Dr. Nader. He's truly a kind, caring person, and I strongly believe he does this out of a genuine love of hair transplantation rather than for monetary reasons. If anything, his biggest flaw is that he's a perfectionist. Mind you, this is a great flaw for your doctor to have because it means that Dr. Nader is always present and works hard to achieve the ideal result :).

Last, I wanted to drop a quick note on some of the potential drawbacks you may be thinking about with Dr. Nader (I know I had some prior to actually meeting him).

  1. Bad website. The site is bad because Dr. Nader hates marketing/sales, so he made the website himself 10 years ago, which is a shame because I don't think the current website captures his skill level or dedication to his patients. Ignore the website! It doesn't capture his skill level at all!
  2. Longer communication. Dr. Nader isn't the best at responding immediately to emails. Again, this is totally due to his distaste for marketing/sales as, until he hired Brenda, he had no one taking care of communications. Therefore he himself was answering every email! As you can imagine, that generated a massive backlog. Just keep emailing him or call the office; it is totally worth it in my opinion.
  3. Traveling to Mexico. Personally, I hate traveling, even for pleasure. Yet I had zero issues with safety, comfort, etc. You stay in McAllen, TX, which is a normal and nice town, and only head down to Mexico for the surgery, and Dr. Nader takes care of all logistics on that end.
  4. Paying with cash. Dr. Nader takes credit cards, but he offers a discount if you pay in cash. It was definitely weird having a few thousand dollars on me as I traveled, but no issues whatsoever. In retrospect, I was being way too cautious on this.

Anyway, I hope this was helpful to anyone on the fence. I'm happy with the transplant and, while I won't check this site super often, I'll try to log back in every few months to show progress pics.

Im happy to hear this doc has hired somebody to handle emails on his behalf. His work has always looked very good but the communications were an issue. Now that hes gotten that resolved, he should be a very sought after option. Congrats on the procedure, and happy growing!

Great story! I too have read lots of review on Nader and decided to take the plunge. I'm scheduled to go at the end of July. I also had a problem getting in contact with them. I finally called and Brenda answered. That was the best way to get in contact with them. After that she started responding to my email questions and they scheduled me in.

Congrats! I took the plunge in late July 2016 with Dr. Nader so I'm close to a year now and I have been very pleased. The entire experience was excellent as were the tacos I had for lunch during both days of surgery!

Dr. Nader is just a great person who knows what we're going through. I had a little more than 3500 grafts transplanted over two days. At some point, I'll have to post some before and after shots. I probably need another 1,000 to 1,500 grafts to add a bit more density and finish filling in my vertex. When I contacted Dr. Nader in early May to set up the second surgery but he said to wait until 18 months because he thinks I still have more hair to grow and at that point may be happy with the final results and not need a second transplant. In my opinion, it is rare to find that type of honesty and character these days! Oh, and he is right, I've had some hairs sprout up since contacting him so we'll see how I feel in another 4 to 6 months.

Congrats again on taking the plunge. It's a great feeling!

hey all, a few updates here, 5 months out. Really enjoying the work from Dr. Nader, and I've gotten compliments on my hair! The front looks awesome, so well done. At the top, it's a bit thin still. We put less in there with the plan being I'd use rogaine on that spot. Unfortunately I had a bad reaction to the rogaine, so it's a bit thinner than I'd like. If I comb my hair backwards, you can't really see it, and I'll probably head back at some point to get it touched up by Dr. Nader.

Here are some pics, with my hair wet and dry. On some, I've combed it all forward (my old style of doing my hair) so you can see how the bald spot looks on the top.

Looks good! I was curious how your hair was doing. You still have a lot more growth to come in after 5 months from what other's went through. You might want to try finasteride or dutasteride for the back and see if you get any negative reactions.

I went to nader at the end of July. I'm at 13 week and it's slowly coming in. When did yours start coming in strong?

There's more growth coming? That just made my day :)

So initial growth was rough. My wife even asked if I'd had anything done. At the 3 month mark, my hair looked slightly better than it did before I saw Dr. Nader. After that, it rapidly thickened and I was getting compliments. Part of it, I suspect, is that it just took time for my hair in general to reach a length that looks good on my face

Typically 10-12 is when you get an idea of what your results will be like so most likely you do have some growth left. Some doctors advice that patients wait until month 18 actually. Well please keep us updated. I'm considering Nader myself.
