Melonhead1234
I have a receded hairline and was told I would need 4000 grafts to fill in temples and top and was recommended FUT. What do you all think of my donor area? Should I do FUE instead in case I have to shave later?
Senior Member Speegs Posted March 10, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted March 10, 2017 How old are you and are you on finasteride? These are critical questions that need answered prior to considering a surgery. Hair loss patient and transplant veteran. Once a Norwood 3A. WMQ
Any crown loss? Donor seems nice but not sure what's with that patch of red. Birthmark? I'm keeping my eyes on this thread as I suppose we have similar hair texture (very straight dark hair). You're Asian as well right OP?
Melonhead1234
I'm 33 yo and have been on finasteride for about 4 months. I have a swirl at the crown but below it I feel like the density is lower than before (see picture), not sure if it's just noticeable now that I have a short cut or if it's truly thinning. Melonhead1234
WMQ, not sure what the red patch is, maybe lighting or a shadow. I'm not Asian but have Asian like straight hair.
Senior Member Spanker Posted March 12, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted March 12, 2017 I have a natural part on the back of my head that makes my donor look less thick but I've seen a few docs that said it's fine. I'd see a trusted surgeon and see what they say. I am an online representative for Dr. Raymond Konior who is an elite member of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians. Bill - Seemiller
Melonhead, I would love to give you some advice about the only picture that I see is a picture of the back of your head. I don't see your receding hairline or your temples so I really have no comment on whether or not her transplant surgery is a good idea for you. However, from the back of your head, you look like a young guy. I think you need to be very careful using 4000 graphs for the hairline and temples especially if you were young. It is important to keep donor hair left in reserve for future hair loss. If you are young with significant hairline recession you may likely experience a lot more bowling especially because it looks quite thin in the area below your crown… Unless that has to do with lighting or the flash of the camera. If you are not already, I would seriously consider non-surgical hair loss treatments such as Propecia and Rogaine to attempt to get your hair loss under control. So based on the very little bit of data I have, I would suggest waiting and do neither procedure. However, pictures of the frontal area will give us a more accurate picture of what's going on. And knowing your age. Best wishes, Bill
Melonhead1234
Here's a picture of the top of my head. Some surgeons are quoting 2000 grafts another 4,000 grafts. Would you all recommend FUT or FUE? I'm in my early 30s.
Senior Member Sean Posted March 14, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted March 14, 2017 Thats diffuse loss and id be really careful with having 4000 grafts placed in between native hairs liek that. You can turn out worse then what you have right now if done wrong and dense packed into such zones. You can end up with both permanent shockloss in native and donor zones. Best advice would be to reconsider, hold off until loss is more progressed, try meds under doc supervision. Best would be to not do anything at all but seriously reconsider. Yoi do mot want to chase repairs and lose valuable time and endure physical damage and harm. Best of luck.

hairlooser
I saw your thread as I am also mulling over the differences myself, and I came across this Everything You Need to Know About the FUT Hair Transplant It provides a comprehensive description only on FUT but I hope it helps.
