Hi all , First off I am in no way affiliated to this clinic .

I feel i owe it to this community for being a fantastic source of information for me during my research into my journey in trying to resolve my hair loss problem. I am not a new member but I needed to change my name for privacy but you cannot do that on this site so I had to re register.

I am early 50's and a norwood 3a i think,I have had hair loss since i was in my late 20's. It has progressed albeit slowly to leave me with a forelock and high receding temples. I have taken no meds and in the last few years dabbled with concealers.

From the research and info I have done mainly on this site my plan was as follows

· Fue hair transplant to cover current hair loss and fin 1mg day for maintenance. Ill use minox post op only as im not convinced.

I had my procedure with Dr Demisroy and his team in turkey and I am currently 6 days post op.

With all the fears of traveling to Turkey, I must say I did not feel threatened or in danger any more than I would have done anywhere else. Life goes on and the airport is huge and very busy with passengers from all over the world. I would say the security is tighter you get scanned and searched twice over but hey that’s reassuring.

All went well on arrival, I got picked up from the airport by organized transport. The journey though to the hotel was something else, the traffic and the way they drive there is horrendous how they live with that stress every day I don’t know. Anyway prepare with drinks and snacks as it took nearly 2.5 hours.

Hotel was great and I saw lots other patient from other clinics that were there so it made me feel more comfortable. The attitude about Hair Transplant there is so different , apparently they go straight on facebook !Muzaffer

Next morning 08:00 I was met by Muzaffer a lovely guy who was the contact for me for Dr Demisroy, to be honest his quick and timely responses and his genuine keenness to help was one of the reasons I chose this clinic. This along with the amount of the Dr’s involvement with the procedure , results , ethics, patient experience etc.

At the clinic after filling in forms /heath questions etc. Dr Demisroy examined me and we both decided on a hairline. The first hairline he drew I personally thought was low , he explained that that was the maximum he would go down too taking in to consideration my age ,head shape , existing hairline etc. I have always had a high forehead and I wanted a natural look and to plan for future loss etc. So my choice was to come slightly above this as he also said looking at my donor site I would have plenty there for future plans. This is a personal choice and I didn’t see the need to try to alter my looks drastically as even in my early 20’s my hairline was roughly where my line was anyway.

oh I also asked for something to help me keep still as I’m a fidget and I worried about lying there for so long , they gave me what I think was a form of valium , well it did the trick as I dozed in and out through most of the extractions.

Usual stuff got marked up then shaved by the nurses then had the injections, The injection pain was as expected, initially sharp but quickly fades. Dr Demisroy did all the extractions and did comment that the grafts were good with lots of 2’s and 3’s with some 4’s. We then we stopped for lunch and then the nurses injected my recipient site and Dr Demisroy did all the incisions. I must say I was surprised how long this took and I was impressed that Dr Demisroy was very focused and took his time especially around the hairline. Again no pain.

After a quick Toilet break, the nurses settled into placing the grafts, this again took a long time and halfway through I started to experience some pain which the nurses quickly topped up. That was fine but by now I was getting bad pain from my neck , I forgot to mention I had a previous neck injury from playing rugby and lying in that position for so long bought on pain which over time became worse. This was my fault entirely as I didn’t think it would affect me, but the pain was much worse than the procedure by the end of it , they did try to help with adjusting the head position etc but really I wish I’d have taken my own pain killers , Co Codamol or something strong. Anyway this was towards the end of the surgery, when it finished we took some more photos then I went back to the hotel.

That night I just used the room service for food, next morning I went down early for breakfast and I must say nobody really took any notice of me with the blood stained bandage on the back of my head. Muzaffer came at 08:00 again and we were off to have my first hair wash and post op instructions and photos.

Dr Demisroy noticed my head had swollen and recommended the band which they put on after surgery to prevent swelling comes off as it could put too much pressure on the grafts.

I then went back to the hotel and rested the whole day, in fact I couldn’t be bothered to go down to the restaurant so I sat and watched films all day and had room service. My flight was an early one so I had to be up for 4am. My biggest concern was the swelling, as there was no band on and the swelling was coming down to my eyes and sure enough by the next day I looked horrific.

My journey back was stressful because I was so concerned about how I looked , I was barely recognizable , I thought how am I going to get through customs.

I didn’t have any problem through the airport , I had to take my hat off twice through the 2 checks they do , but when I got on the plane I had my hat off all the way back and thought what the heck im not risking damaging these grafts. I put it back on briefly to go through the UK airport.

The last 6 days ive been following the post op protocol and here’s a brief summary

Swelling almost gone by day 5 post op

Pain continues in donor site , like a burning pain , taken painkillers and using aloe vera gel

Recipient no pain , just scabbing over which I will deal with from the 7th day.

Here are a few important tips from my experience .

· Take some stronger painkillers I use co codamol 30/500 these help with sleep too they supply naproxen which really isn’t enough.

· Prepare for the swelling, it makes you look like a freak, unless you are staying for 5 or 6 days you will have to go out in public and a hat doesn’t hide your face.

· Take a chromecast , Turkish t.v. is Turkish t.v. only a boring bbc channel in English , with so much time to kill Watching films is better on the hotel tv than watching on your phone or laptop.

· I am glad I let the clinic organize the hotel and transfers with all that went on the last thing I would have wanted is that stress , everything was spot on

· Prepare for the traffic in Istanbul , have drinks and snack you forget after 4 hours on a plane you still have 2.5 to do

· Neck pillow, I would have been lost without this, I bought a decent one of amazon not a cheap airport one , it is memory foam and has adjustable inflatable pads to support your head. I was able to sleep sitting up easily and have done so the last six days to protect my grafts. It also helps with the donor pain as my head doesn’t rest on the bed head.

All in all I am very pleased with the whole experience form the clinic and hotel and especially the hard work Dr Demisroy and his Team did, it’s a tedious painstaking procedure but I was impressed with their skill and professionalism and friendliness. Looking at the work done since the procedure, I am again very pleased so far, the rest I believe is down to me , whether I respond and heal well and able

baldbeard,

Welcome to our community and thanks for sharing your hair transplant experience and postoperative photos. I've been impressed by what I've seen from this doctor and I know he expressed interest in being recommended here. However, their clinic dropped the ball in presenting examples of their work so we could do a formal prescreening process. Perhaps I'll reach out to them and see if I can get the ball rolling again.

Congratulations on your procedure and I hope you keep us posted with monthly pictures :-).

Best wishes,

Bill

Awesome stuff mate. Follow our updates and see what you have to look forward to in a few months, because right now, things are going to be tough, you bit the bullet and you knew what was coming but the next few weeks are still going to be challenging. Post updates for the next guys to come! All the best bud!

Your procedure was very similar to mine, on a ressembling pattern, by the same doc, 2 months and a half apart. My updates should give you an idea of what's likely to come. So far, so good.

hi here is my 10th day post op picture

donor pain is now getting better , less intense over the last couple of days but still evident.

most of the scabs have been removed now as per instructions, I used aloe vera gel and then olive oil on the more difficult ones to soften them up a little .

as you can see there is redness , I hope this fades soon but I may be one of the unlucky ones .

Still pleased at the minute as i can see the little hairs poking through and ive had no bleeding so fingers crossed all is ok.

im not looking forward to the ugly duckling stage but I guess i knew i had to go through it.

Hi heres my day 14 update

all scabs are gone , ive started with aloe vera gel , and witch hazel as ive got the infamous purpley red batman logo on my head , not sure if its helping ? I think im going to be one of the unlucky ones as even though im not that fair skinned ive got quite bad redness .

The other thing ive noticed to is the transplanted hairs are looking a bit thin now and i noticed some of the short hairs in the sink after washing DOH! so im also blessed with early onset of shedding Happy days ! so now ive got to work out the best plan of hiding this for the next 4 months or so

im going to try powder foundation or something along that line and keep all my hair short.

on the positive side i think my donor looks ok , as yet i havnt had much shockloss from there but i suppose theres time for that and from my forelock where ive had some implants added.

both photos are by the window in natural daylight.

oh well early ugly ducking phaze for me , i must say the biggest thing that bothers me is the redness to me its the main thing that makes me look like ive had something done and stands out a mile , if ive got this as some do for months then its going to be tough.

I will experiment with thing to see if it helps , currantly im dabbing on which hazel twice a day and then massaging aloe vera gel on the night after my hair wash.

does it all look normal to you guys ? please advise if you think anything out of the ordinary, my biggest worry now is are those who have alot of redness or early shedding more prone to bad results ?

hi all just an update on my experience at 21 days post op

i must say im now entering the WTF stage

alot of my transplanted hair has gone not sure how much , im not sure yet also if any of my native hair has gone too , but the main thing bothering me is the redness , i guess im one of those who is going to be suffering with it for months , funnily enough i dont have sensitive skin either normally but the only thing i have noticed i the skin on my scalp is very white ....

since day 10 ive been using distilled witch hazel 2 twice a day and after washing my hair in the evening i put a good amount of 99.9 % organic aloe vera gel on cant really tell if its helped as its still red but i do think it might have faded a tiny bit .

The redness is really what keeps me having to where a hat in public if i didnt have this i could have coped wit the hairloss bit as im in my 50s ive gotten more used to it , but with this red emblem i look like a freak.

Other than that im healing fine, i think my donor at the sides may be a bit see through but the way my hair used to lie it has always been a bit like that.

I just hope all this comes back its quite unnerving now every time i wash my hair i see little hairs in the sink.

If this persists i might experiment wit ways to make it less noticeable options are

1.keep it clippered down so its all blended in

2. use some kind of foundation / cover . my wife has all these magic potios she uses like mineral foundation which blends the skin so i might get her to work on me , i know the risk , i must endevour to wash it off properly at night .

not sure whether couvre or dermatch will help me as i dont have that much hair left?

the other points are this is my first time on fin @ 1.25mg a day so far i have not noticed anything , i mean my sex drive has leveled off anyway since getting over 40 , dont get me wrong its still there but im not as driven as i was in my 20s but i think thats natural . I will see how it goes on fin.

I am not sure whether i should start the minox now , doctor advised i can start from week 3 but im scared of making the redness worse or prolonging it what do you guys think ?

anyway ill keep this post updated as it may help those who are considering this doctor and the journey through recovery.

Hi what is your hairloss pattern , to be honest i never took fin until now , he did not insist i take it but he di recommend it . SO for future protection and because of what i have now invested into it going through this I think it deserves a shot so ill see how it goes , so far so good but i suppose its early days and i do not know if i would be getting sides after 3 weeks or not ?

Hi look forward to following this result , can you tell me is this dr still 1.25 euros per graft ? Seems almost too good to be true especially if he's doing all the extractions !! Just a Shane there's not more of his work to view online . What was is that made you choose dr demirsoy? We're there any other doctors that you considered ? Thanks

wibbles theres more of his work on the german forum .alopezie.de just use google to translate.

For me the choice was because

1. first and foremost only 1 patient a day , so you get all the attention from the dr and team.

2. the dr does all the hairline design, extractions , and incisions , the nurses do the implanting.

3.the comms with the clinic (muzaffer) have been faultless all the way through , always replies even now post op which is important to me .

4. the dr is very ethical in my opinion , from the posts ive read he has not operated on some patients because it was not right for them.

I believe from my own experience the work done would be as good as anywhere else , with surgery there is always risk , you cannot gaurentee a good outcome in any clinic no matter who the surgeon is , he may do hsi thing right but then its down to other factors like your own genetics , healing process , hair quality etc so for me for the money he was my choice.

even the top surgeons in other clinics i looked at did multiple patients with the techs doing the grafts, for me i wanted the drs experience and attention. its a hard choice when going to a forgien country you have to put trust in them and everybody has different reasons.

all i can hope for now is that the (other factors ) are on my side for a good result , we will see ...

bb

oh considered bhatti, asmed, yaman, de reys , some other clinics were well out of my range though

ok im a month post op , well what can i say I was expecting it but its still hard to handle , im in the dreaded ugly duckling stage.

Ive lost most of my transplanted hair it started coming out after 10 days or so which i believe is early ? it seems to have slowed down now as i do not notice much hair in the sink , ( i wash my hair daily with a gentle shampoo)

I think too that what was left of my forelock has thinned , its coming through but its obviously alot thinner , i am concerned that i may lose even more from shock loss or start loosing from the donor which would be a nightmare. I hope that it is not permanent. I think the back and sides look ok , i can see a hint of it being thinner and slightly red in certain light but no one seems to notice. I did clipper it to a grade 1, 2 weeks ago to even things out and i will do the same again today .

Apart from having less hair than before the main thing that bothers me is the redness, to me it stands out and would attract attention . I am one of the unlucky ones where i think its going to be here for months :( I have been experimenting with ways of concealing it and my wife tried some of her mineral make up on it and I was amazed how it hid it , at the moment i wear a hat to work but if i needed to go where i would have to remove it I would use the mineral stuff .

My plan at the moment is to keep everything as short as possible so i will clipper (not shave) it down as low as it will take it , until everything starts to grow out even . I have shaved my head before so people are used to me with cropped hair.

I still get the odd tingle/ itch in the donor area and i have had a few spots in the recipient which i think is mild folliculitis , I have been using an antiseptic iodine solution that the dr gave me , I also have kept on with the antibiotic as im prone to spots anyway.

so roll on the next few months

hi

well its 3 months today and i must say its been tough , some of the redness still lurks but to be honest i think that is because of some spots ive been getting which is fairly common at this stage (i hope) anyway i have been treating them with a mild antiseptic which seems to help.

ive kept my hair short so i can see exactly whats going on, i keep taking it back to a grade 2 all over roughly and i have stopped wearing hats in public and not many people have commented as i used to shave it down before. only comment i had was on the redness which i said was a skin reaction.

I can see some hair poking through its sparse at the moment which worries me , but as i read everywhere i need to be patient and not panic. the hair is very fine and hard to see but at certain angles i can see lots of tiny ones poking through but it is coming through unevenly.

Im going to try to not focus on it too much as i will only panic , ill judge this more after 6 months which hopefully by then i will have more of a cosmetic improvement.

hopefully better things to come in the coming months

photos not uploading so ill try later

3 months I was bald as a coot,y months defined hair line by 12 months density was coming in all very gradual no growth spurts but great end result! Be patient everyone's is different I just had in my mind it's minimum 12 months before judgement can be made! Having said that at 9-10 months if you have poor growth I think it's highly unlikely you will be satisfied with the matured result!! It just needs to improve month on month!

Hi guys thanks for the responses

its 3 months 1 week

as you can see im keeping my hair short at about a grade 2 all over this gives me a chance to see whats happening and keep everything even although its not good for early confidence as i would have more coverage if i let it grow

ive posted a pic which was in natural daylight , i can see it coming through but some areas are weak at the moment like the temples and a patch at the very front but hopefully this will all catch up ?

its the waiting game now I dont know if the results so far are good for 3 months or not ? but everyones different

gman im very impressed with your results and i think yours was better than mine at 3 months but your hair is thicker and darker and a better texture for coverage, if mine gets to be as good as yours is now ill be more than happy

you are right hairshopeing i need to patient its early days and i should be thankful im seeing some growth

ill post again at 4 months
