I just wanted to share my experience having a hair transplant with Dr Scott Alexander at Biltmore surgical hair restoration. I have been doing research on various forums for about the last 5 years or so. I found Dr. Alexander originally on The bald truth forum. I have been following his work ever since. I truly admire his artistic ability and agree that he is one of the best in in the country.

About mid year 2015 i booked an apt for the end of the year (December). I elected to do a strip procedure. I have mostly frontal thinning with strong recession. My goal was to fill in the frontal 1/3 and reestablish my hairline, so i knew Dr Alexander would be great for me. The time waiting for procedure had definitely flown by and i realized that i was having a HT next week. I was scared. I definitely did my research and knew i was making the right decision, however i kept getting cold feet about the whole thing.

I drove out to AZ and could not have picked a better day.( weather was great):D. I checked in with the doc for a pre surgery consultation. The doc took me back to his office and began to assess my hair in person. I told him my goal and he was able to make honest opinions and suggestions.

He then drew up the hair line which was slightly different than i envisioned however i knew that it was going to be great regardless. Dr Alexander was able to answer all my questions and put my mind at ease for tomorrows procedure. He is a genuine guy. I left after the apt to go fill all my scripts. I later checked into the AZ Biltmore resort which was AWESOME> This is complementary stay for out of town people, couldn't have picked a more awesome place to stay.

As the evening went by i started to become very anxious again. I went out on the town to get take my mind off the procedure. The best thing i can recommend the night before the surgery is to spend a little money on yourself. Go eat at a fancy restaurant then go get a 1hr massage.I felt so great after and was able to go to bed easily and wake up feeling well rested. I drove my self to his clinic and arrived early. You can eat breakfast like normal. I sat in the chair. The Doc knew i was nervous. He asked me if i wanted to take a Xanax. I would certainly recommend that prior to the surgery.

The doc drew up the hairline again which i really started to like. The techs started to prep the area for the doc to obtain the strip. I felt lightheaded a couple times while he was doing procedure. I think i was over thinking everything that was going on. The doc laid me back in the chair and was able to comfort me until i regained my composure and then i felt really relaxed. It was slightly painful, the injections for the local anesthetic. Once it was all numbed up, it was painless and went by fast.

Doc obtained the strip and prepared me for the next part of the procedure. The doc had to numb up the recipient area with the local anesthetic again, which was painful but is tolerable. He then started to make all the incisions for placement of the grafts, this took several hours but i was so relaxed that i actually fell asleep. About mid day rolled by and it was time for lunch. Doc had ordered me some chinese food:o I finished eating and began the longest part of the process.

The techs had to place all the grafts they had obtained from the strip. they were able to get 2400 grafts which i was really impressed and excited. Several hours went by. Occasionally the anesthesia would wear off but the doc was really good about coming in and numbing up both the top and the suture area so i didn't have pain while i was sitting there having the techs place the grafts.

I watched several movies. Graft placement takes the longest. 5 o cock came around and i was nearly finished. They did have trouble with the grafts occasionally popping out which took a little longer, but they were able to complete the surgery. Doc took some pics of the area. I looked in the mirror at my new hairline and i was really impressed, and so was the doc.

Post surgery after the anesthesia whore off i definitely started to have pretty significant pain however the Percocet he prescribed me took the edge off. I did have a hard time sleeping upright, certainly hard to get used to. But if you follow post op directions you ll be fine.

Overall the procedure went better than expected!. The doc and his staff are so nice and knowledgeable and really made me comfortable. I also wanted to give a shout out to SPEX (Spencer). He is Dr As Pt adviser and he has been a great resource and has been able to answer all my post op questions in a timely fashion.

I am glad it is all over. Everyday is getting better and I look forward to growth later down the road! Thank you Doc, and all the staff at Biltmore.

Cheers

Glad to hear you had a positive experience. However, this quote got my attention. Is it Normal Procedure for the "techs" to place the grafts? Wouldn't you want the Dr. to be doing this as this is where the proverbial rubber meets the road? Anyone else concerned with this or is it just me?

emcgrath,

It looks great!! Very exciting stuff. Spex is correct, the redness goes away. The waiting game is the hardest part in my opinion. Happy Growing!!:)

Becket,

There very few clinics out there where the doctor actually places the grafts. I over see every aspect of the transplant procedure including making sure my girls are performing perfectly, I just don't place the grafts. I believe that Spex can attest to this.

Thank you all for the kind words!!

This is what happens when you do your research and pick a doc like Dr Alexander.
