Time between two strip FUT procedures

Typically twelve months. You may get away with nine. Your doc will tell you. Different docs sometimes have different timelines.

As Spanker says typically it will be between 9-12 months at the earliest. Your healing and laxity and size of the first session could make a difference as to whether you would need to spend some months loosening your scalp before another procedure.

If you can visit your Doctor for an assessment.

Hi guys,

What's the general time between fue procedures?

The main concern when planning time between procedures is really the recipient area more than the method of extraction. The surgeon needs to be sure that all the hairs have sprouted so that no viable grafts are accidentally transected during the subsequent procedure.

Thank you guys, all very helpful advice. I incorrectly limited myself to a surgeon in my city against all the advice in this forum. As my surgeon is on the conservative side, the plan was was for an initial surgery of approx 2,500 grafts via FUT, and then a second surgery for density. Now that I have been through it once, and although very happy with the job my surgeon did, I will rather travel to either Rahal, H&W or Shapiro for the 2nd surgery - as they appear to be the best of the best. The problem is I know Rahal & Shapiro have 3-5 month waiting lists, so I ideally I wanted to consult early and try book a procedure for the 11/12 month mark, however I guess I'll wait until that minimum period mentioned of 9 months to do the consult, and then get on the waiting list for an appointment.

Do you guys think it would be stupid to do the consultation slightly earlier at say 7/8 months, get on the waiting list and book the procedure for the 12 month mark? I think I know the answer to that question though, but thought I would ask it anyway.

If I put the question another way, if planning to use a different surgeon from the 1st, that surgeon has a 4 - 5 month backlog to book a procedure after the consultation, and I wanted to book the 2nd procure at exactly 12 months post the 1st op, is 7 months post op to soon to have a consultation with the new surgeon, and would he be able to make a reasonable assessment at that time?

At 7 months attending a consultation for another FUT procedure might be too early in my opinion especially as you say that you are wanting to add density over a previously transplanted area. Not all your new grafts would have come through at this time so I would wait until the 9 month mark before attending in house consultations so the Doctor can give you better advice as to how many grafts you will need.

As mentioned before unless you have naturally good laxity you will most likely need to loosen your scalp for a couple of months from the 9 month point but this can be discussed in your consultation. All the best.
