Dr. Lindsey 2 years out from 1200 to hairline McLean VA

This fellow stopped by last week 2 years after we did a little 1200 graft case addressing a thinning frontal triangle hairline.

To look at him now or even then, one would wonder why he wanted surgery…this fellow has a MOP of thick wavy hair covering his entire head and limited family history of hair loss. Nevertheless, the way he wears his hair did show some hairline thinning which is now quite resolved. And he has a nice scar somewhere down in that forest of donor hair.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't know how this case required 1200 grafts and I think the comparison pictures are a bit one sided. The pictures to really focus on are 1 and 3, which show the drawn hairline before the recipient area is shaved. The drawn hairline does not actually extend past his existing hairline, and he had pretty decent density there to begin with.

Based on pictures 1 and 3, I feel like if he had not have had a HT at all his hair could have been styled pretty easily to look the same as his post op result from the front. In all these pictures, the only real difference that stands out to me is his temporal areas are... slightly denser. But for 1200 grafts?

In general I think is it bad practice to show an "after" picture highlighting the result (his frontal shot) with no accompanying "before" shot.

I agree that a better before shot would be helpful. I think that when a patient has a very thick "MOP" of hair, if there is a thinning area it makes it stick out even more. The bottom line is the end result here looks very nice. Good job Dr. Lindsey.

Hairlines just take more. I would guess that I had twice the area covered as this gentleman and I had a little less than twice the grafts. My grafts were also placed in existing hair, which looks like natural density in most areas. I hope that as I loose more hair it becomes an illusion of density and will only require a minor touch up in areas, but I will have to let it thin some so that the blend the hair in behind it if/when I lose hair there. Bottom line is that the number does not surprise me at all and this is one lucky guy to have that much hair. Also, keep in mind that when you have a mature aged man that comes in with very minor loss and still wants surgery, you know he is going to be very picky, so these guys are usually dense packed because they have the donor to spare.

Good comments. The way he styles his hair I suggested he hold off initially. A natural preop would not have shown any hairline issue, hence it was not put up. But when he pulls his hair back I see what his complaint is, thus the first picture is not a preop hairline but one with the hair pulled back showing the man's issue.

Rootz and hairthere, I'll accept all comments that I'm not a great photographer but I never try to gimick someone into a case. Were this fellow not a well educated, professional, high profile guy with a reasonable, yet smallish issue, I would not have done anything. That said, his donor hair is SO DENSE we got more grafts than we needed even with a tiny strip (he did not want fue). But rather than just throwing hair away, we packed them in.

He's happy, kind of...wants 300 fue's to address two smallish areas he saw in a recent professional portrait...

Lastly Spanker is right...hairlines do take more, even with great hairs like this fellow has, people still get hair greed.

Thanks for the comments.
