Erectile Dysfunction Due to Propecia WITHDRAWL

This is a Serious concern, I could not get it up last week during intercourse, which hasn't ever happened. I have never had such serious side effects while taking propecia 1mg/day for 3 months (but I did have some sides - softer erection, trouble getting it up but I could still do it, unlike now), but I have stopped taking it cold turkey for 2 weeks now. All of a sudden this happens, I had no thoughts about propecia or anything that would've effected the moment.

I'm truly depressed now, as I quit the drug due to side effects, and now I have the worse side effect of them all.

Please, any help is appreciated (ex. have you quit and have this happen before? What should I do to prevent permanent ED? What should my next steps be?)

Honestly, propecia has not helped me at all in my few months of use, and if this causes a permanent side effect as severe as what I'm experiencing, I just won't know what to do.

Stay off it and keep off it. It can take up to a year for your hormones to rebound and feeling back to normal. Everyone is different though. Could be longer.

Hope you got your blood work tests done before starting the drug.? You should get blood work done now but without baseline data its gonna be very tricky to see what the issue is.

This is Something the majority of people on here who should know better fail to mention and irresponsible Doctor's fail to mention to people before getting people on this drug. I wish you the best in recovery.

Do not go near it again until you are at least back to normal.

Propecia affected my free test levels when on it . After i had sides I massively upped the training in the gym and protein intake to get my test levels pumping again.

MAke sure your not smoking , keep booze to a minimum. Get fit , eat right and lots of sleep. All you can do.

I got back to 100% in a few months doing all this so hang in there. You are making the correct decision dumping it. Have this horrible gut feeling this drug is a medical scandal time bomb.

Thank a lot for the replies Bobilero,

I do not smoke or drink, and I go to the gym often. I take a good amount of whey protein, and I was contemplating whether or not the whey could be causing further impotence, but I guess I should keep at it.

I've only been using propecia 1mg daily for 2 months, and the rest of the time on and off.

I really hope it doesn't take multiple months to get back to normal. I just tested, and not only is it incredibly difficult to achieve erection, but i can't even hold it for more than 30 seconds even if I'm still "aroused" in my mind. I really hope it does get me back to normal and I'm not one of those few permanent side effect users.

worst case scenario your doc will put you on hormone replacement and youll be back to normal real quick, dont panic,, and another thing,, propecia 1mg a day is in my opinion way to much, i think 1/3 of the pill every other day is good, or even half the pill every other day , you will still get the benefit with little or no sides, hope this helps

Test replacement must be taken for life guys a it shuts down your natural test production. its an absolute last resort, its also got unsavoury sides. You should get back to normal naturally.

Up to you if you want to dabble with a lower dosage. I was not prepared to take any more risks with that stuff.

Hey, if it doesn't come back.. schedule an appointment with a urologist that works with body builders and does TRT replacement.

These are the only doctors educated and familiar with Propecia issues.

Google search Urologist, TRT, <your city>

These guys will at least attempt a solution to get you back to normal.

The rest of the doctors and people will tell you to get healthy, talk to a shrink, or do some shit you never had to do before to get a erection.

I am following up on my condition, in case anyone is interested.

this is the 3rd week off of propecia, and I am still experiencing full side effects.

I now have absolutely no arousal from any visual/erotic stimulus, neither my mind is activated/interested, nor am I able to achieve even 10% erection without physically stimulating myself.

It is almost as if the side effects are getting worse as time goes on. Just a reminder that I did not have anywhere close to as drastic sides as these until AFTER I quit taking the pill.

Hang in there mate. It takes time for hormone levels to rebound. Psychological stress wont help matters so try keep cool as poss.

Tough one but do all the right things and follow up with your blood work tests asap and urologist if necessary to see exactly how the land is lying..

Get in the gym and training and eat like a cave man but get loads of fruit and veg too. Get your test levels cranking again. Worked for me.

Am sure you will be Ok given some time. It should be a stark lesson though to all how powerful a drug this thing is that people go round popping like aspirin.

Brother do not worry. You had it for a long time. Now give the same amount of time to get the effects over. As when you discontinue the advantages gained are lost over a period of time. So why not the sides ?

It is doesnt go and seriously go to a doctor. I was getting the sides within 10 days of using and immediately discontinued and got normal after a week.

Thanks for the positive responses,

I've been going to the gym regularly now and I'm waiting on my bloodwork. I'm trying not to use viagra or anything because I want to get back to normal naturally. Also I know thinking about it can add to the problems, but I'm certain my mind is not the prime factor in the troubles i'm having.

Faizy, I have the same mindset as that now, I'm hoping it will be gone before the amount of time I've been using it. I will wait it out and post my state in a couple of weeks from now, hopefully we'll see some improvements by then.

I am updating my status after a month since my last post.

I still have difficulty achieving a full erection, and the most notable difference since before propecia is that I lose this erection very quickly (within a second of thinking of something else). My sex drive is not improved either, I still have no urge.

I hoped I would recover naturally but I am thinking otherwise now, any suggestions?

Only been a couple of months fella. I reckon it could take up to 6 months for your hormone levels to rebound and for you to see any difference.

Keep doing the right things and ride it out. Did you get your blood work results as yet? Have you seen a urologist .?

  • 2 weeks later...

Ive had the same issues with proscar over the last year as I gradually noticed the sides getting worse and worse. I had been taking it for over 3 years without any sides and then they gradually crept in. I stopped taking it 4 months ago and tried half and quater my original dose but the sides come back almost immediately. Its not a mental thing as a few weeks off it my morning glories returned.

But the down fall is my hair has got so much thinner. I had a HT almost 3 years ago to zones 1 & 2 and the proscar was holding the rest of it together. Now Ive ceased it, my hair has started to look so uneven and i can see gaps appearing between the HT line and the original hair. Getting very hard to conceal.

I have booked in for a second procedure in August but is the growth from a HT that successful without fin? Very worried at the moment. Is there any other medication I can use to help slow my hairloss. Currently using minozidil and a spray that contains saw palmetto. Also some herbal DHT blockers twice a day.

Any ideas. Reluctant to go back on fin but if it dragged me through to August what would the result of going off it then be?
