Hair transplant on a budget

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am new here but have been researching FUT for a while now and am looking to go ahead with a procedure. Unfortunately I am not wealthy and the outlay cost for some of the UK/Europe/USA specialists is just not realistic for me.

I am in contact with Dr Path in Thailand and Dr Madhu in India at the moment, as although budget should not be a deciding factor, in my case it has to be. Sr Madhu is by far the best recommended and cheapest surgeon I have found, although I dont find communication that easy as the answers to my questions that come back on occasion are sometimes ambigious. Dr Path seems great but again might price me out for the moment. I am looking for other recomendations who might fall within these sort of price brackets. I know I may well get shot sown here but I thought I would ask none the less.

I am 32 and a Norwood 4 give or take, looking for approximately 3500-4000 grafts initially.

All help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How much are you willing to spend? As you know, the average price per graft is around $3.75 - 4.00 which would put you at about 14,000 or so. I know you are looking to do this cheaply but seriously, you are better off waiting until you can afford it since you are not getting great vibes from Dr. Madhu and plus tarveling to India and dealing with the post op there could prove very difficult.

Many good clinics will work with you on pricing and payment plans so you should check that out.

I would definitely agree with my buddy Can't Decide and wait until you can afford to do it properly. It seems the regret I see most on these forums and with other hair restoration patients I've spoken with, is that they didn't do it right the first time around. Keep in mind, you have a limited donor supply, so it is important to find a doctor who can make the most of that from the get-go! Most of us here aren't wealthy by any means(me especially), yet I saved for 2 years to have my procedure done with a reputable surgeon who I know produces consistent results. Not to say that the doctors you are considering aren't qualified, but if you aren't 100% certain they are the one for you, DON'T DO IT. If you aren't willing to wait, definitely make sure you do your research to help you find a level of satisfaction (for the price you are willing to pay) that you are comfortable with. I wish you the absolute best with your decision bud, and hope you find the solution that works best for you. :D

Sincerely,

Mike

3500 grafts for Norwood 4 seems like a lot to do initially....especially since you are in your early 30's.

I am guessing without seeing pictures but how about doing 2000 initially? Then revisiting it late in your 30's when your balding pattern should be pretty stable.

But don't go cheap, make sure you get a well known and highly qualified surgeon.

Only go with those docs if you're 100% comfortable with it.

I've seen HDC offering some decent rates in Cyprus, or Dr De Reys (FUE).

4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013

1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018

763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020

Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day

In 99% of cases, I highly discourage price shopping hair transplant surgery. In a large number of instances, it leads to a substandard result and ends up costing more in the long-run.

However, Dr. Madhu and Dr. Path are both excellent hair transplant surgeons, and I feel confident recommending a procedure with either.

Good luck!

All doctors mentioned as options do high quality work. I always recommend waiting and saving more money if price is becoming the priority over quality. These results are permanant and it is not worth saving a few bucks to end up getting poor results that will likely take more money to correct. I often use the example that if you needed brain surgery that your insurance did not cover would you go to the cheapest Neurosurgeon in town or go the doctor who gets the best results.
