Senior Member HARIRI Posted July 22, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted July 22, 2012 How it works The underlying cause of MPB (male pattern baldness) is a genetic trait in some males that causes scalp follicles to miniaturise when exposed to the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is produced when an enzyme called 5AR (5-alpha-reductase) acts upon testosterone and changes it, resulting in DHT having different physiological effects upon the human body when compared to its parent molecule. Most oral MPB treatments work by stopping the production of DHT by suppressing the action of the 5AR enzyme. There are some side effects to inhibiting 5AR because the testosterone that isn’t being converted to DHT can trigger other hormonal responses in the body. Some men report lack of libido, erectile dysfunction or other side effects due to the increase in female hormones that are produced to counteract the higher levels of testosterone. This is where S-equol can step up to the plate. It has a mode of action that is very different to the 5AR inhibitors. Instead of preventing the production of DHT, it binds strongly to the DHT molecules. When DHT has S-equol attached to it, it is no longer a form of 'free DHT', i.e. it cannot cause MPB because the molecule is no longer able to bind to receptor sites. When there are sufficient levels of S-equol in serum, the DHT can be captured before it can cause damage, even the DHT that is inside hair follicles since S-equol is a small molecule and can enter the follicular cells. Frequently Asked Questions Does it cause side effects? No. There are no known side effects resulting from the use of Folexen. It does not cause gynecomastia (enlarged breasts), erectile dysfunction or any of the other side effects that are experienced with other treatments. Can I combine it with other treatments? Yes. We are not aware of any contraindications or interactions between S-equol and other substances, and see no reason why it cannot be combined with other therapies. Is S-equol a natural product? Yes. S-equol is a metabolite of a natural isoflavone called daidzein, which occurs in soybeans and some other food products. Why don't other pharmaceutical companies sell S-equol? Some companies have already invested heavily in R&D of their 5AR inhibitors, and S-equol would compete against their other products. What is the recommended dosage level? Eclipse recommends a dose of 4 capsules per day (two every 12 hours), equating to 10mg of the active ingredient. S-equol has been verified as safe at much higher dosage levels (hundreds of milligrams). In my opinion, S-Equol is much better than Saw palmetto in efficiency although Im taking them both. Plus its better than Finastride in side effects wise, no sexual sides at all. Its now produced in Australia and hope it gets attention in USA. Senior Member aim4hair Posted July 23, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted July 23, 2012 Harir, This is really intresting, i wonder why not alot of ppl talk about this product since apparently more and more ppl are afraid to take propecia because of the sides. Was this product tested and proved ? Also is it confirm that it has no sides at all since it is oral and might still play with your hormons but im not sure (I always thought tropical products are much safer when it comes to sides). Thanks,

I was reading on other forums that you would need 100mg daily in order to get the benefit, but that would be too expensive.
Senior Member HARIRI Posted July 24, 2012 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 24, 2012 You can find the product from their official website, just open a Google page and type Folexen. You will see the first link and choose it. 10mg S-Equol is enough and do not get higher. I have been using it since last month and noticed less hair to lose around 10 follicles a day only now. Good luck.
