rg3955
Hi friends, i have come across the below artcile when i was checking ISHRS webiste. Platelet-Rich Plasma in Hair Transplantation | ISHRS: Physicians specializing in medical hair restoration, hair transplant surgery, hair replacement & other hair loss treatment options Please check this and advice if anyone of the doctors are using this technique to accelerate the recovery from HT procedure. Also i think i am hinted about the process improoving the quality of the hair overall, both PRESENT and transplanted. Experts please advise. I am planning to get my HT done in month of May in India. Just wondering if there is a possibilty of including this procedure. Thanks All.
Senior Member Dutch Posted March 20, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted March 20, 2012 First time I've heard of this, they draw blood from you? It'd be interesting to read the opinions of surgeons on here. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2329
Regular Member GotHairInFront Posted March 20, 2012 Regular Member Share Posted March 20, 2012 That was a very interesting article & certainly worth further clinical studies to determine efficacy & safety in HT's, but I don't see a downside with the info presented. Most of us take certain supplements before & after HT procedure to enhance our body's natural wound healing capabilities & to encourage rapid growth of the transplanted hairs anyway, so this new PRP might indeed be an excellent addition in the arsenal of tools to promote HT healing & success. I for one would volunteer to be a trial member. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2491
Senior Member bonkerstonker Posted March 20, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) Top surgeons have been messing with prp and acell for years now, most have aborted it and moved on which basically means it's rubbish. I think there's only Dr cooly and another surgeon that we're not allowed to mention on here that uses it still. Dr Feller seemed really interested in it about 2 years ago then never really came back and said anything more about it which is a bad sign obviously. If i remember right someone once said it helped with healing a bit but i can't think who it was it's that long ago. search prp on here you'll find a few threads. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted March 20, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted March 20, 2012 The idea that PRP can be used to stimulate growth has pretty much been abandoned. However, many docs have noticed an improvement in the hair health and scalp health when administering PRP. Dr. Wesley recently had a great post showcasing the practical elimination of scalp psoriasis after using PRP.
