You got to give it a shot.

THink of it this way, hair loss is progressive, it will get worse and worse, not in a linear fashion, it might stabilise for a while then go nuts and lose a shed load more. The best thing you can do is give some kind of 'insurance' and protect what you do have from DHT.

It will certainly be a good investment for the future.

I think I got a shed some months in I can't remember,

good luck

exactly, if i sit back and do nothing and lose alot of hair, i will majorrly regret not atleast TRYING to slow it down or stop it

its worth a shot, it has to be

Will let you know how i get on, cheers buddy

Keep us posted. I know it will be difficult but try not to think about it too much!

yeh definitely, thats the key i think, otherwise i'll end up attributing anything and everything i feel to the damn things

starting on just one this week, then two next week, 3 on the third week etc, to hopefully ease into it

Hi guys, im a 25 year old guy with not many worries in my life except my dreaded hairline :(

iv noticed the past year or so the hairline has begun to receed and its beginning to get me down

right now my hair is the longest iv ever had it but tbh i think thats just making it harder to hide, i dread getting up in the morning and seeing its a windy day outside

iv never taken any meds, but i feel i need to act soonish, id say im a NW2?

Long term, i could see me opting for a HT one day although i just feel uneasy about having one now, only for the hairline to receed further beyond the point it has?

im attaching some pics of how i have my hair, and then one slicked back, and one from the side so you can see how i mean

its seriously getting me down, part of me would love to just shave my whole head and not give a damn, but its just a scary prospect :(

I think it helps to talk to you guys, ie people in a similar situation, who have been there before etc

i keep coming across propecia, where do you guys buy from? im based in the uk by the way

current hair

part of me feels i could just completely change my image, ie shave the head, grow a beard, don myself in some tattoo sleeves, and work out like crazy!

Hey Mate,

Your story is shared by many folks here. I strongly recommend that sooner rather than later is the best strategy. Look how it is already effecting your emotional well being. Hair restoration surgery has come along ways and the centers where I work we see people from all over the world.

Good doctors take into account an age appropriate hairline. The donor hair last your lifetime so there is not worries there. A transplant combined with medication can slow hair loss from other areas that you may lose based on your genetic MPB. Younger men do find that sometimes subsequent transplants will be needed as non transplanted hair areas thin out. Overall, see a professional and let them help you come up with a plan that will get you cheery about your self image again. All the best, Michael James.

Hi,

I wish I had as much hair as you at 25 years of age. I remember my mother telling me on the 21st birthday that my hair was thinning quite noticeably (diffuse thinning on top). I won't deny that it bothered me a bit but I still socialised with friends, didn't live my life under a baseball cap (plus baseball caps weren't used in Australia in the 1980's) and eventually met my future wife and had kids.

There are ramifications from having a hair transplant at your young age. If it really bothers you go and see a counsellor and discuss your concerns with them. Personally, I would do on propecia and minoxidil and re-assess when you turn 30 years old.

Good luck and have a good life.

Regards Rod

Great to hear the update. I wouldn't expect results straight away, thing how long it took to fall out inthe first place? Are you taking half each day?

I'd probably put them in the suitcase but you shouldn't have any problems.

Sufcfed, I am in the same position as you. Judging by your picture, I have the exact same amount of loss as you and i style my hair the same way to hide the receeding in the corners. I went for a HT consult when i was 19, the doc told me i was too young to even consider a HT so he put me on propecia, rogaine nizoral.

I took the propecia for a month and found to have a difficult time getting an erection, so i stopped taking it. Fast forward a year and decided my hair was a priority and started taking it again. Only this time without side effects. I think the first time i was on it, it was more a psychological thing that was giving me a hard time with erection problems then the actual medication. In my head, i was expecting to have a hard time getting an erection which made me nervous about not being able to get one which decreased my confidence, which in turn made me unable to get one.

Today i am 21 and have been on propecia for about 1.5 years and have NO side effects at all. I have not regrown any hair but i can say i havent lost any more either. My situation is pretty stable as my hairline ends on a beauty mark on my scalp so i can tell it hasnt really moved.

In sum, dont worry about the side effects. It is probably a psychological thing in most cases, if you get what i mean

Hey Mate,

There is not need to wait...if you feel the need. Get an evaluation from the doctors mentioned here. The advancements and the use of gigo-sessions by some of the top surgeons in the world my put your concerns to rest. See what they think. I most often advocate for act now rather than later. All the best; Michael.

As far as Propecia and thickness, some have reported a thickening. Which could mean some hair that was heading towards fallout was saved and thus the over-all look is thicker. Personally I have not seen any thickening. I will say that I wish I could go back in time. I started on Propecia at about 32 years old, used it for ten years and didn't notice much. So I quit taking it from say 42-48, and then all of a sudden I noticed my crown was thinning. I am back on it now and take it every single day. I would give anything to have those years back when I wasnt taking it because I am pretty sure my crown would not be nearly as thin now as it is. So the point is to hold on to what you have by taking Propecia. Other new drugs and methods will probably come along and as young as you are they will be available to help you out. Really all we have now are "the big three"...Propecia, Minoxodil, and Hair Transplants.

Stress can be a factor in hair loss, but I think it is mostly DHT that destroys our hair.

RX= Doctor's Prescription

(not sure about UK, but in the US you need a prescription to get Propecia)

Hi Shampoo, me too have been stopping propecia for sometime.. took since Mar 2009 to May 2011.. then tried procerin as a recommendation from a friend.. but realised the effect was obviously not as good.. began to shed hair on my left temple again*is hair receding problem* after 6 months since stopping.. i wish to know since you have restarted propecia after a six years halt.. is any of your lost hair growing back as they were like when you are at the medication initially.. or the restart just help to maintain the existing hair..?

Now i am considering to restart propecia again.. wish to hear more stories/experiences from you guys here.. :)

Thanks

Urahinuk

Hi everyone. Please help me out here. Initially I was intending to do HT to correct my very high hairline (from birth I've had a high hairline and very little bits of hair). Recently, I think I'm thinning out in the crown, though I don't seem to experience any hairloss, just the two or three strands of hair that falls out whenever I shower or when I'm working for a long time at the desk.

Please check my photos out at http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/166117-taking-surgical-plunge-please-help.html

Your opinions mean a lot to me as I'm really concerned. I am only 24, and a woman.

Hi mate,

I was going through what you are going through at the moment. I tried almost everything and from my experience propecia should be the last resort as this caused me great testicular pain and I could not think straight.

Minoxidil and hair thickening shampoos have benefitted me really well and I have noticed a great difference : ), people have even made comments about me dying my hair but its just that my hair is now thicker.

If you want any advice as to where to get these products don't hesitate to reply to this comment.

thanks for the reply buddy

does propecia make hair thicker at all? my hair seems pretty thin too

Also im not sleeping, alot of stress, so dont know whether this can have any impact on the state of my hair

Excuse me for being dumb but what is an RX????

RX is short for a prescription. Take Biotin (vitamin) to make you hair thicker and healthier.

Hi Atticus,

I would stay away from Propecia, please don't touch the stuff. Use Minoxidil it's works really well but you have to be patient. Try hair thickening shampoo aswell along side minoxidil as well as I have found that this helped whilst I was waiting for the affects of minoxidil to appear.

Unsure what RX is.

Not everyone is a limp d*** f****** off finasteride. Most men who suffer from finasteride side effects have low thyroid function, and endogenous testosterone levels to begin with.
