Senior Member Spanker Posted January 4, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 4, 2012 There are a 2 things in this post I will address: 1. Caliber and coarseness: are these the same thing? I consider my donor hair thick, but I put one of my hairs next to my wife’s and her hair was thicker. It really surprised me, but she has pretty thick hair as well. My hair just seems more wire-like than hers, more course. So I my question is, is caliber and coarseness the same, or is caliber a synonym for the thickness of the hair? 2. I have some stray hairs in my donor that are very very thin. So thin that I would not even want it transplanted. I don't have any idea what percentage of my hair these are but does anyone else have these? Is this common? I feel sure that they are not dying from DHT, but I definitely have some that are noticeably finer than the majority of my donor and wondered if anyone else does. Please feel free to add anything or any questions that you have about donor hair in this thread. Senior Member Cant decide Posted January 5, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 5, 2012 Hairs in the donor area can vary in diameter so this is normal. Senior Member RCWest Posted January 5, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 5, 2012 Caliber and coarseness describe the same thing. Doctors measure this in microns because it is such a small measurement. Normal caucasian hair is between 70-80 microns or a bit more, which is roughly .003 of an inch. Any thicker than this is a bonus It's normal to see finer hairs in the donor because hair is normally falling out and regrowing even on non balding scalp. If your hair looks thick in the donor, and especially if you aren't headed towards NW6-7, you are more than likely fine. I would get a HT doc to confirm this though. Are you planning on a HT this year? Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1?
