Regular Member Vinny1980 Posted July 15, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted July 15, 2011 Hi, I am on day 15 today. Still having a bit of shock-loss in the donor area and covering that up with Mane. My scalp was getting a bit dry and I'm only using baby shampoo still, so I got some aloe vera today. I currently also am using Minoxidil 2x a day and debating whether to scale that back if it is drying out the recipient region. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on whether the Rogaine Foam is more/less effective post-FUT or had experiences of it drying out the recipient area? If that was the case, did you have a workaround? I would still like to use it 2x a day, as I want to do everything with my power to ensure maximum yield as I put so much effort into this. Thanks. Senior Member NEWHAIRPLEASE Posted July 15, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 15, 2011 I am planning on using the spray for a couple of months after my transplant, just to be extra cautious about rubbing the recipient area too much. I know thats a little conservative, but I think its better to be cautious. Newhairplease!! Senior Member aaron1234 Posted July 15, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 15, 2011 I'm 16 days post-op Vinny so I'm right there with you. What kind of skin do you have? If it is fair, pale, easily irritable like mine you might want to go a little easy on the Rogaine so soon post-op. Maybe 1x a day. Senior Member NEWHAIRPLEASE Posted July 16, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 16, 2011 Hi NewHair, which spray are you talking about? the minoxidil foam or saline or something else? Vinny Im talking about using regular rogaine spray for a couple of months after surgery..I dont think you need to use the saline spray any longer than it takes to lose your scabs...maybe a week to 14 days.. Senior Member RCWest Posted July 16, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 16, 2011 As long as you are using a 5% minoxidil product I think you are fine. The liquid may not be as drying to your scalp as it is pretty greasy stuff. I use to use the foam before I switched to oral minoxidil but I used it before washing my hair. It seems to have a lot of scalp drying alcohol in it. Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? Regular Member NorwoodBalding Posted July 16, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted July 16, 2011 RCWest, how come you use Avodart and Propecia? Do you not have extreme side effects? And on whose recommendation did you take oral minoxidil? And is it working? Sorry for the Question Time, but I'm very curious. If there's a chance to avoid the greasy stuff, I'll be more than willing. I'm a fat boy, so eating tablets is just another type of food to go in my mouth. Oh, and forgot to ask what NW were you before and what are you now? Thanks
