Senior Member NEWHAIRPLEASE Posted July 6, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 6, 2011 Does salt and pepper hair help conceal a transplant? I know if a transplant is done right it's not gonna be noticable anyway, but just wondering if the contrast in hair color would really help? Newhairplease!! Senior Member Thehairupthere Posted July 6, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 6, 2011 Salt and pepper hair really looks great, and the salt hair or grey hairs really do give you the appearance of thicker hair as they mimic the color of your scalp. I am a consultant for Dr. True and Dr. Dorin. These opinions are my own. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted July 6, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 6, 2011 What do you mean conceal a transplant? Conceal the donor scar? Any procedure done by a good surgeon should result in a scar that is undetectable if the hair is grown out long enough, regardless of the color. Conceal the fact that it's a transplant? Again, a HT should be undiscernable regardless of the color if done by a good surgeon. That all being said, certain colors do better in adding to the illusion of density. The lighter the hair color, the weaker the contrast between scalp and hair. This will give the appearance of more fullness. So yes, salt and pepper hair should be great especially with the grey elements. Senior Member NEWHAIRPLEASE Posted July 6, 2011 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 6, 2011 Yes, that's what I was speaking of, from a density stand point. Senior Member mattj Posted July 7, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 7, 2011 I think it's a combination of the low contrast between hair and scalp as well as the two tone effect being more confusing to the eye, like camouflage. I've often thought it was a good hair colour in general and sort of hope I acquire it myself in time. Not yet though. I am a patient and representative of Dr Rahal. Senior Member gillenator Posted July 8, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 8, 2011 This an interesting phenomenom, the salt and pepper thing. I always wondered how my transplanted hair would appear as it lost pigmentation. When I recevied my first HT in 1996, I did not have any grey in my recipient area. After a total of four seperate procedures with a grand total of roughly 6900 grafts, things have changed. My natural hair color is predominantly dark on a fairer complexion. I am just beginning to see white hair strands appear in my transplanted zone in my mid 50s. It's very natural so I am hoping it will look like "more hair" once it turns white!
