Advice needed.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

I am 25 and noticed my hair loss (receding hairline ect) when I was 18 as a frosh in college. Over the last 7 years it has rapidly gotten worse to where I have a small thin patch for a hairline, with thinning going back to the crown. I have been buzzing my hair for the last 3 years as the hairline got to the point of no return.

Anyways is 25 to young to get a HT done? I have normal density up the sides of my head on for most of the back of my head.

I plan on going to teach in Asia and after a year ill have some money to put done on a procedure. Roughly 15k. I would like to get 4k -6k graphs transplanted.

Also who is the best doctor as far as results & value, most bang for the buck per say with good results and reputation?

25 is quite young. Have you got on Finasteride? That is the first step. I would be on the that for at least two years before considering a HT.

As for the best doctors a couple of rules apply:

1) Research like crazy on these forums. Look at hundreds/thousands of photos. Develop an eye for HT's.

2) Don't let travel or cost persuade or dissuade you from a particular doctor.

3) Meet with the top doctors in person as well as some of their patients in person if you can.

Do you have any pics you can share with the forums?

Thanks for the pics. You've definitely lost of a lot of native hair but I could still see Fin being of benefit for you. You do still have some miniaturized hairs left on top that could be strengthened. Also, Fin could help maintain your lateral humps and strengthen even the hairs in the donor region. Trust me, you want to keep as many of your natural hairs as you can.

Even so, with all the loss you have at the young age of 25 (you are pretty much a NW6) you might not be a great candidate for hair transplantation. I would try the Fin for a couple years and then see where you are. Hope this helps.

You might feel like something needs to be done for your hairline soon but I would avoid any doc who would recommend that approach. You're very young and maybe headed towards a NW7. Surgery right now would not be in your best interest. Take a step back and think long term. And as Spex says, "Research, research, research."

If you ever plan to do an HT at this age and take the risk, just make sure that you go for FUE. just to be in the safe side if you need to go back buzzing your hair in the future.

I have been doing alot of research on FUE and have seen impressive results.

My favorite doctors for FUE are:

Dr. Keser from Turkey and Dr. Bisanga from Belgium.

I know how you feeling as im going through the same process of deciding whether to go for HT or not and it's confusing as hell.

dashglobal,

Welcome! You've got some very good advice here. You are quite young and it's clear that you are on your way to advanced balding.

Personally, I think that your hair loss is defined enough at this point that you could probably proceed cautiously with surgical hair restoration but, it's very important to note that you will not be able to and should not attempt to restore a juvenile hairline. You will need to work with your hair transplant physician to develop a long term plan that should involve a very conservative hairline. Oftentimes, younger guys are not happy with that approach but you need to plan for future hair loss.

I also do think that you can still benefit from Propecia (finasteride)

I recommend that you consult our interactive map and locate the prescreened quality hair restoration physicians nearest you. You can then schedule a free online consultation.

If you'll be in Asia, you may want to consider Dr. Pathomvanich in Thailand. He's a member of the elite Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians, highly skilled and his prices are very competitive.

All the best,
