Senior Member Spanker Posted May 5, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 5, 2011 I have dark hair and somewhat tan skin. Wondering if I go FUT, could I do it without anyone noticing if my hair were long enough. And if so, how long would it need to be? Senior Member ej Posted May 5, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 5, 2011 Hi Spanker , I would leave it as long as you can , also mention it to your Dr as they can pin the hair up out of the way so when its done it falls over the scar and hides it , I find about a 4 guard is ok for me Hope this helps ej
Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted May 6, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 6, 2011 Spanker, Typically you can hide the donor scar after surgery with 1/2" hair length which does equate to a number 4 guard. It's best to leave your hair a little longer to be on the safe side. David - Former Forum Co-Moderator and Editorial Assistant I am not a medical professional. Dr. Glenn Charles
The answer really depend on what type of hair you have. The thinner/finer a patients hair is the longer it needs to be to camoflauge the donor wound post operatively. Also dark sutures/ stitches (black/blue) are going to be more visible underneath lighter colored hair.
