Senior Member aaron1234 Posted September 20, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) I'm not putting concealer on my transplanted areas, but I do need to use some for the donor site. Currently, I'm using dermmatch and it I think it is quite effective. I might keep my hair short until the newly transplanted hairs begin to grow. Does anybody have any special techniques when applying dermmatch to the donor scar? I think it's a little more difficult than putting it on the top of my noggin. Or should I use Couvre instead? Toppik doesn't seem to work well on a shaved head, especially on the sides. I've attached some photos for reference. What do you guys think? BTW, I'm one month post-op. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted September 20, 2009 Author Senior Member Share Posted September 20, 2009 Thanks Ron. Appreciate it. Yeah, compare it to my donor pic from my webblog (one month entry). As for the hair, I just tell them that I messed up my haircut. I do give myself haircuts after all. Senior Member youngsuccess Posted September 21, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted September 21, 2009 Looks pretty good, man. I had moderate success masking my donor scar with some cheap hair mascara after buzzing down, but I get the feeling after seeing this that experimenting with some Dermmatch would have been more effective. It looks like you've at least definitely nailed the right shade, with little contrast between the color of your native hair and the donor cover up. Originally posted by Ronald:Comparing to your blog, there is a huge difference. Bingo. Is it undetectable? No. A lot of people probably wouldn't be satisfied with this, but it looks about 100 times better than the pics in your blog. Night and day. I think your bad haircut explanation is reasonable since it looks like a layered buzz mishap or hat head. ------- All opinions are my own and my advice should not constitute as medical advice. Senior Member Severn Posted September 21, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted September 21, 2009 I didn't think they were supposed to cut that low. I thought I read that a good HT doc has to keep it above the ridge or the donor scar will likely stretch? Fantastic job, however why not just increase the blade # by 1 on the back and keep it tight everywhere else? Senior Member aaron1234 Posted September 22, 2009 Author Senior Member Share Posted September 22, 2009 Hey thanks all for your input. Yeah, I do have to cake my entire back and sides with the dermmatch to have it blend in more. HairHope: I actually thought about this. But I figured that I would try to even out the shaved scar hairs with the surrounding hair a little more. It didn't really make much difference, so I'll probably take your advice next shave. Right now it is at about a #2. Severn: The pics might be a little deceiving. When I place my hand on the ridge behind my ears I can tell that the bottom of the scar is above it. During surgery, Dr. Paul and Ron Shapiro both thought my first scar was too high, which might have contributed to my less than stellar yield. So Dr. Paul went ahead with a lower one. I'm not worried about it at all. So I hope all who have undergone a recent procedure and are worried about their apparent scar will give dermmatch a shot. Not the end all be all, but a def improvement. Senior Member bonkerstonker Posted July 12, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 12, 2011 Hmm i think i might start using dermmatch on the scar too. Does anybody know any facts about using concealer on the recipient area as i've herd all sorts over the years which mainly has been that you shouldn't as it can harm your new ht hair growth but when i think about it logically i think that it can't do that much damage can it? Just to add hw said it's fine to use concealer after 2 weeks so it would appear to be a grey area that no one knows for sure about a bit like post op washing instructions. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted July 12, 2011 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 12, 2011 Yeah, bonker I think you could totally benefit with some dermmatch on the scar... especially to offset the shock loss. As for the recipient area you will hear different things from different docs. If you want to play it really safe, avoid dermmatch on the recipient area and use toppik/nanogen instead. The dermmatch on my donor area did not keep the shocked hair from returning.... I only used dermmatch on the recipient area on an occassion for the first six months and I always washed it out at night. Eventually, I started using dermmatch again pretty much daily in the recipient area after the transplanted hair started growing in. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted July 12, 2011 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 12, 2011 Keep in mind these pics I posted were about 2-3 weeks post-op from my 2nd procedure. You are even further along so I think it would look much better for you than it did for me here. Of course, if you can wear a hat then take a day off from concealers. Senior Member bonkerstonker Posted July 12, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 12, 2011 Yes cheers mate i was thinking about using it on a weekend but if it's fine on the donor i will use it there this weekend. I'm 4 month nearly so i think it should be safe to use on the recipient area once a week but i'll try hold out as long as i can. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted July 12, 2011 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 12, 2011 Yeah, you are so far out of the doldrums now that in another month you probably won't need any concealer on your scar.
