Regular Member Matt-sydney Posted July 14, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 Hi group, I noticed a little scab flake off today from the frontal part of my scalp, at day 3. I checked it closely and found a hair. There was no blood or anything, and I didn't knock it. I just noticed it loose in my surrounding hair. I didn't see a bulb or anything, so i'm hoping I didn't lose it. Is it possible that I could heal so quickly? Or do you think I lost the hair? Most of the others look like they have at least a few days before they come off, although there is another in the frontal part of the scalp that looks like it is shedding. I've been taking megadoses of vitamin c and garlic to help my immune system along, so perhaps this is working?

Senior Member Smoothy Posted July 14, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 Don't worry, these are dormant hairs anyway. the bulb of the hair follacle is not involved as it is below the scalp. In 3 months you will notice. Just make sure you keep the scabs moist with saline or Graphsite spray every few hours, this cuts down on the dry scabbing. Be happy and enjoy. Dr. Timothy Carman
Matt- Not to worry- The hair shafts will shed, but the follicles will stay put. Grow well. Regular Member Matt-sydney Posted July 14, 2008 Author Regular Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 Thanks for the reassurances, but I thought day 3 was a little early to be shedding. The earliest i've read about this happening is day 6.
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted July 16, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 16, 2008 I'm sort of going through the same thing now. I'm 7 days post op and still have a few scabs. I doing my best to not pick them. But occasionally I will gently rub them and the scab will come off with a hair connected to it. On Dr. Rassman's blog he had a post instructing to avoid picking the scabs, since the graft could possibly be dislodged up to 10 days after the transplantation. I wouldn't panic but play it safe. It seems to be such a natural human instinct to pick scabs, it's tough to fight it. Here's a link to Rassman's blog post. http://www.baldingblog.com/2008/06/19/picking-my-scabs-...-my-hair-transplant/ Dr. G: 1,000 grafts (FUT) 2008 Dr. Paul Shapiro: 2,348 grafts (FUT) 2009 ~ 1,999 grafts (FUT) 2011 ~ 300 grafts (Scar Reduction) 2013 Dr. Konior: 771 grafts (FUT) 2015 ~ 558 grafts (FUT) 2017 ~ 1,124 grafts (FUE) 2020 My Hair Transplant Journey with Shapiro Medical Group
