  6. Dr. Hasson has just asked me to post this on the boards as it is the latest study regarding Proscar and Prostate cancer. Prevention of Prostate Cancer with Finasteride: US/European Perspective. Thompson IM, Klein EA, Lippman SM, Coltman CA, Djavan B. University of Texas Health Science Center, Division of Urology, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, 78229, San Antonio, TX, USA PURPOSE: Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer, affecting one man in six. Prevention of this disease, even in a subset of patients would have a significant impact on public health. The results of the National Cancer Institute-sponsored Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial demonstrate that finasteride causes a substantial risk reduction across all known risk groups. We herein amplify on the results of this trial to assist patients and physicians in reaching individualized decisions.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The results of the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial were reviewed.RESULTS: The PCPT demonstrated a 24.8% reduction in prostate cancer risk with the administration of finasteride. High-grade cancers were noted in 6.4% of finasteride patients compared to 5.1% of men receiving placebo. The increase in high-grade tumors was seen within one year of finasteride exposure and did not increase over time. This observation, combined with previous evidence demonstrating an alteration in cytologic and architectural features of prostate cancer with hormonal therapy suggests that the differences in high-grade disease may be an artifact and that application of Gleason grading to these tumors may not be appropriate.DISCUSSION: Men should be presented the benefits and risks of taking finasteride and be assisted in integrating their sexual and urinary symptoms into their decision-making process. Blanket statements for or against the use of this medication ignore patient preferences and differential risk-benefit profiles from finasteride. PMID: 14644115 [PubMed - in process] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Peace, Joe Tillman aka, Jotronic Hasson & Wong Carpe Capillus!! www.HassonandWong.com www.Jotowen.com 1.800.859.2266 All statements and opinions that I share are my own and are not necessarily shared by H&W. 8. Don't think for a minute that I've forgotten what I went through. I make it a point to look at my website at least once a week just so that I don't forget what I used to look like and to remember that this is a slimey business. No, I don't know what I'll look like in ten years but I do know that I will have the same hair on top of my head as I do now. If the hair diameter gets thinner then so be it. It will still look natural because I've got coverage in the areas that matter. I wish you had asked about the ten years later issue a few days ago. A patient had come in from several years ago and he decided he wanted to get some crown work done. The crown was somewhat thin years ago but even today with the front and top done with mini/micros,( I was surprised how good it looked), he still looked natural. Same point in my case. When I first came to H&W in 2002 Dr. Wong camouflaged my old grafts in a way that once it grew out I would look like my crown was gone with a natural looking high but healthy hairline. Of course I wanted more later on but it wasn't out of necessity. It was out of narcissism. I don't know where you can get a 99% figure and then say they'd "probably semi agree". Bottom line is this though; natural FU grafts will stand on their own be it from strip or FUE. 9. A lot of what Ken says has to do with surgery centers that may be out of date or lack proper experience in what they are doing. God knows I've been through the ringer myself as my first two procedures were four years after Ken's. Let me address his points... 1.)Knowone knows how much hair you will lose in the end. Not exactly to the hair but a lot of guys show a faint pattern of hairloss if they are doomed to loose it, especially in the crown area. A good doc will take this into account and convey this to the patient. The use of Propecia, which so far works great,(maintaining the hair), for most guys plays a part in this. 2.)The HT won't stop your hairloss and may accelerate it. Again, a good doc will tell the patient that a HT is not a cure but a treatment. The patient will need to go on Propecia or face the fact that a second or third HT may be in the cards down the road. The key here is proper donor management. 3.) Your HT will take about a year or two to look O.K. During that time you will still lose hair. A year or two? Highly doubtful. Most patients know within six months what is going to happen and between months six and eight they have a great overall idea of what the final product will look like. One year shows the basic end game of the HT development. As far as losing hair in the meantime, Propecia. 4.) As you continue to bald, the hair on your sides get's thinner, this means your HT hair will also get thinner. So who's to say that the thinning won't look natural? 5.) As you continue to lose hair, 10 years from now, you will look a lot worse then when you started, and you will have no donor hair left. This assumes the HT doc does a good job. Boy that's a blanket statement if I ever read one. How do you know he will need a HT in the next ten years to begin with? This was the case for me when I had my first two HTs eleven years ago but that was before hairloss drugs came out that actually work. I basically think that while Ken's heart may be in the right place on this he is giving you a worst case scenario that may only pan out should you choose a subpar doc. Continue your research and you most likely will make the right decision for you, which is what matters overall. 11. Guys, On average, and I stress "average", it takes about 3 to 4 weeks for the hairs to shed for the initial dormant phase. Then you can expect some growth over the next few weeks from a couple of grafts here and there but at about the 3 month mark you are going to actually notice some difference. At the 4 month mark you should really start to see growth and your head, or the actual recipient area, will look like you have a buzz cut. At about the six month mark your recipient area should have significant growth and between months 7 and 10 you will have a noticeable increase in density. One year out is the generally accepted milestone for the overall picture of what your hair looks like but some guys do take longer. 12. Being a part of the H&W team I have no problem at all recommending Dr. Shapiro. I think he is an excellent doctor and if you choose him over us you'll be sure to have a great experience and result. What is it exactly that you are looking for in an HT? Are you looking for density? Coverage? Both? Have you sent us your information or spoken with Mike, Doug, Christina or myself? 13. Thanks man, I appreciate it. You know, I actually found the experience of being a mortgage broker to be quite interesting. After the first few months I realized that it was very similar to the car business. It really is about finding the "sweet spot" that the client will pay and you as a broker still get your points on the back end. The biggest similarity between being a broker and the car business is that people walk in or call EXPECTING you to lie to them or to try and take their cash. That is the part that I did not like as I try to be honest just as much in business as in my everyday life. What I learned a long time ago was that if I'm honest with clients they may not always go with me but if they do they will also come back because I would not only be honest with them but I would tell them all the secrets of how brokers make their cash. That meant a longer sales cycle but it also meant referals! But yes, refis dried up and now that everyone has rate fixation they think that 6.5 on a 30 fix is "high", LOL! 15. All, Since I started participating on this forum over a year and a half ago I have learned an obscene amount of information about hair. More than any layperson should know actually as have a lot of you that are reading this. I have a lot of people to thank for turning me on to the right information like Mike, Benny, Lorenzo, Arfy, NW, Futzy, Pat, Farrel and many many others. Because of the information I learned from these guys and others I was able to have a positive experience of hair transplant redemption. I was able to have a normal life again and in turn share what I went through and what I learned with the world. I decided to do so honestly and open to scrutiny with my website. Boy did I get some scrutiny! :Q Why am I writing about this? Because it has led me to a crossroads in my life. For the past year and a half I have been independently corresponding with hundreds of people via email and dozens of people on the forums. I have met dozens more in person too as anyone that comes to Seattle has asked to meet me. I have also made a lot of friends along the way. I have at no time been on anyone's payroll to do so as I felt it has been my duty to help others avoid the bad decisions that I and others have made in the past. Now it is time for the next step in my obsession with hair transplants. I have decided to take a position that has been offered to me by Hasson & Wong. What you have known as Hasson & Wong in the past will now be known as Hasson & Wong & Tillman as I will be the newest member of the surgical team. Anyone that would like a megasession with me can contact me through email. Ok, ok I'm not serious although working as a HT surgeon would be cool. What I am serious about is that I will be joining Hasson & Wong. Starting next week Jotronic IS on the payroll,( insert conspiracy theory here). Does this mean that Jotronic is gone? Nope. I'll be here to participate just like always and finally being on the H&W payroll will not change anything about me. I've always believed in H&W in the past so working for them now should make no difference. It certainly does not change any of my experiences much less my results. Peace, Joe Tillman aka "Jotronic" Carpe Capillus!! www.jotowen.com

  17. I want you to stop and think for a minute here about what you are about to do. If you can have 3500 taken from the same area within a one month time frame why would you want to break it up into two procedures instead of getting it all done in one pass? Peace, Jotronic Carpe Capillus!! www.jotowen.com
  18. If you decide to wear a hat then any hat will do as long as it does not fit tightly and does not rest on any of the grafted areas. I think when you say wool hat your are possibly referring to something like this... http://www.hats.com/cgi-bin/Hats.storefront/3f4e5998011a9d20eacdc0a80a6506da/Product/View/G500286bc01?dept=1043&deptName=men's+cloth+fashion I've seen these and they work pretty good for post-op HT patients. Peace, Jotronic Carpe Capillus!! www.jotowen.com
  19. Given the density is high enough you can style your hair anyway you please. Last year I tried to show that you can have different hair styles or at least that the hair does not have to lay a certain way. Some of the links to the larger pics are screwy but overall you'll get the idea. Note, on this page I do not pretend to be able to pull these styles off with any sort of suave finnese as my hair simply was not long enough nor did I have enough. It's simply an illustration that the hair does what you want it to. Also, the hair is not "trained" to do the different styles. Hairstyles after an FU transplant. 20. however, I think it would be better, IMHO, to just ask those that are interested in being a "mentor" to provide an email address. It can be one that is setup in two minutes on Yahoo that can be separate and not reveal any personal info. That way, any visitor that is interested in talking to someone doesn't have to go through the hassle of filling out a form. They can just email the person directly with their questions and you could list the email addresses of each mentor by location. Again, just my .02 worth but I think it would be more efficient for all involved. Peace, Jotronic Carpe Capillus!! www.jotowen.com
  21. If stress was one of the causes of hairloss I'd look like the cat from Austin Powers, Mr. Bittersworth. NO BODY HAIR!! Peace, Jotronic Carpe Capillus!! www.jotowen.com
  22. Jim, You showed up at the damn airport lit up, not to mention the jeers from the flight attendants as you left the plane,(whatever for?), and you kept asking for the quickest route to "grab a forty". Then, you kept asking where the best place would be in the Emerald City to "get your emeralds polished" or something to that effect. Don't you remember man? LOL!!!! Peace, Jotronic Carpe Capillus!! www.jotowen.com
  23. I'm sure there are other reasons as well. Perhaps alchohol can have adverse reactions to the anestesia not to mention any other meds you may take. It's just a good safety guideline. I know it bugged me because every time I'm in Vancouver I wanted to party but I was a good boy as you should be too There will be countless more opportunities to get schnockered. Peace, Jotronic Carpe Capillus!! www.jotowen.com
  24. Alchohol acts as an anticoagulant in the blood so it doesn't clot easily which can complicate surgery. You don't want to be bleeding all over the place do you? Peace, Jotronic Carpe Capillus!! www.jotowen.com
  25. Like I said earlier the only thing to do now is to hurry up and wait. You're in a good position now because of the fact that you simply can't have another procedure at this point in time. While you are healing and recovering you can use your time more wisely and by the time you make your decision and you're physically ready to do something you'll be a powerhouse of information. Peace, Jotronic Carpe Capillus!! www.jotowen.com
