  1. Due to many requests for me to offer consultations outside of London I will be in Central Manchester providing free consultations on Saturday August 10th.

The consults will be one on one with myself a ht veteran who has had 5 transplants spanning over 17 years. I will be able to explain our procedure in detail, answer any questions you have regarding surgery, show you what a transplant can look like and take clear photos for a recommendation from either Dr Hasson or Dr Wong. If you would like to meet with me in person please email me on ukconsultant@hassonandwong.com or call 0757 8164162.

  2. The one month stage is a tough one for sure as they hairs have shed and you are in the waiting period and with very little that is going to happen apart from the healing process for the next 2-3 months you would be best advised to focus on something new. Taking monthly photos is a great idea and doing other positive things like getting fit and healthier is a great idea. If you can't afford to do the ideas suggested by Rob or you might be hiding away a little from people then try to take up a new interest or hobby anything to stop the constant checking in the mirror which is really difficult not to do.

It is perfectly normal to be anxious as you have invested a good deal of money into your new hairs and it is upsetting to see them disappear but believe me it is so so satisfying seeing new hairs come in from month 4-6 onwards.

All the best with it all

  3. Thanks Garageland. I guess I am worried because I have followed alot of posts before my surgery and I have seen patients to atleast some signs that it is growing or everything is on track, but at 4 months things are not looking so good.

Can you guys also answer a couple of more questions?

    - When I shampoo and dry my hair, I notice some dry flakes and dead skin and stuff. I am not shampooing gently or babying my hair. I normally shampoo and scrub my scalp, but still dry skin flakes are there on my scalp. Is this dry flaky skin going to hurt the grafts? What can damage the grafts at this point?

    - Can I start using Revita shampoo? Is there any harm if I use it daily? I am 4 months post op?

    - I have started taking 3000 mcg MSM and 2000 mcg of Biotin. How should I take it? Recommended dosage?

At 4 months your grafts are firmly lodged in your head as they were after a week. You should be washing your hair normally as you did before surgery. Some people have dry scalps try applying a little coconut oil to the scalp and massage in and see how that helps. A little dry skin is not going to harm the grafts.

You start start the shampoo and use it daily if you wish but that may be the cause of your dry scalp try washing every other day and see how that clears up. Taking MSM will only speed up your hair growth and extend the growing period, as far as I am aware there is no recommended dosage but 3000mg is certainly enough.

Wish you all the best and remember 4 months is just the very start so try not to worry so much.

  6. Yes I think you are right around 250 grafts possibly more would be an average. As to what is best to use these grafts for most Doctors would recommend the hairline as this will have the best visual impact once grown in. If someone has a thin area then 250 grafts would help it really depends of your level of loss.

Someone with advanced hair loss like myself 250 would not really make a noticeable difference in the crown. Some patients who have multiple scars sometimes place these grafts into another scar that is more difficult to revise or where there is not enough laxity to revise to break it up a little.

  7. I got 623 from my scar revision in 2010 but that was also because Dr Hasson wanted to get some grafts for my hairline. There is no way of really answering you question as to how many you will get because it will come down to.

    1. The width of your scar

    2. Your laxity

    3. The density around the scar

If you are hoping for some grafts you should loosen up your scalp which I am sure you must be doing and make sure the Doctor knows this is what you want beforehand.

    Good luck

  8. To the original OP,

With regards to your crown, post healing various for patient to patient and does depend greatly on skin tone, this scabs from the tiny incisions are encouraged to be washed off around 10-12 days post op, once these are gone you will not have any signs of surgery albeit perhaps some slight redness that would look like a mild sunburn, this is worse on pale skin patients.

As for propecia as you can see it generates a passionate response from the people who have had side effects. I personally and many thousands of patients have been taking effective to save their hair and improve the crown and would not think of stopping it.

  9. Welcome to the forum Dan,

Thanks for the detailed account of your surgery with Dr Hasson, I have posted your photos as you asked me to. I look forward to seeing and hearing about your monthly updates. Good growth to you.

    Your graft count was

4814 follicular units transplanted 1098 singles, 3378 doubles and 338 3-4 hair grafts.

  11. Can't decide- Thanks, I am not sure of the total number of grafts that I had back between 96-98 if i got what I paid for and I generally don't think I did then it was about 1500, I would guess somewhere around 1000 from the shave down photos. These grafts are bigger than the FU's that are done today and might equal around 1500 grafts or so which would take me to around 7000 grafts in total. Hair characteristics play a part in my final result.

Mickey85- Thanks very much, yes the lighting is a little different but these were taken in a light room by the window with no flash. I also used to wear my hair shorter and I have now styled it differently. That is because I can now style it, my old grafts grew upwards from my scalp and with my natural curl used to to look like a mass of pubic hair if grown out too long and styling was impossible.

Sadbuttrue- Thanks to you too, I feel very happy, I never really monitored my crown progress too closely it seems to have slowly improved. I always took propecia to not loose anymore hair so to get a little back is a nice bonus.

Hairklepto - Thanks and yes I did look rough before!

  12. Whilst in London with Joe and Dr Hasson we were able to take some updated photos of my hair as it is today.

I have put them with my before photos taken in June 2006 so nearly 7 years on.

For those that don't know my results they are the result of 5 hair transplant spanning 17 years. I am a Norwood 6 and everything on the top of my head is transplanted hair.

The blue pre H&W photos are the results of 3 small sessions in the UK in 1996,97 and 98 of around 1000 to 1500 mini and micro grafts.

I had 4856 grafts by Dr Hasson in June 2006 and a small hairline refinement of 623 grafts in 2010.

I have been taking propecia a few months after my first surgery at Hasson And Wong in June 2006 and this has shown a good improvement in my lower part of the crown where I had no grafts placed. The final photo demonstrates this and how important propecia is even for guys with advanced hair loss like myself.

I documented my results on this website straight after my surgery in 2006 before I started to represent the clinic at the start of 2010.

  13. All the best for your surgery on the 21st of May you will be in good hands. On arriving in Vancouver you can take the train direct to Downtown, from there the hotel is around a 10 minute walk. You can walk from your hotel assuming you are staying in the Sheraton to the clinic but it is a 30-35 minute walk and I wouldn't advise this on the day of surgery it is a 5 minute taxi journey and you will be happy for the privacy and comfort after a long day in the chair.

There are many cheap places to eat as you will be in the centre, it all depends on what you like. As for the flights you can wear a loose fitting baseball cap on the way home.

You are more than welcome to email the clinic direct on info@hassonandwong.com to ask about places to eat etc, I am in the UK so I couldn't personally recommend anywhere but I ate fairly cheaply whilst I was there last.

  14. HairMetal, what you are suggesting is reasonable in terms, that you would be happy with a moderate density to the front and lower density into the mid section and leaving the crown empty. With Norwood 7's though it really depends as to how much you sides have dropped and what your donor like. 5000 head grafts may sound possible but many guys with low donor density it is not achievable. I would take some very clear photos of your situation including pics of your donor and do some online consultations or preferably some in house ones.

Research will be the key to seeing what is possible as you may find you just don't have enough grafts to cover your loss and a transplant is just not going to be for you.

  15. Personally, I think it is really difficult to have a relationship without the girl knowing you are wearing toppick/nanogen and it is best to stop using it as you will never be able to apply it or keep it looking perfect for very long.

In my experience it comes off on the pillow case and you won't look the same in the morning, unless you are going to sneak off to the bathroom to re-apply in the morning before she notices, it just isn't worth the hassle. If she is genuine and likes you then she won't be concerned with some thinning on the crown.

  16. I am pleased to announce that Dr Hasson will be providing one to one free consultations together with Joe aka Jotronic and myself in London

on Saturday March 30th and Sunday March 31st. It is expected that these places will fill very quickly as demand is already very high.

The venue will be the Thistle Hotel in Hyde Park. There will be no charge for the consultations and they are strictly by appointment. If you are interested in meeting Dr Hasson please email me for more information at ukconsultant@hassonandwong.com
