  2. This 27-year-old gentleman had a hair loss pattern similar to a class 4 on the Hamilton Norwood hair loss scale. His goal was to augment his hairline and add density to the frontal 1/2 of his scalp. After establishing his medical history and understanding the progression of his hair loss, I diagnosed his condition as Androgenetic Alopecia (male pattern baldness), ruling out any other possible dermatological or medical conditions which can cause hair loss. Taking his age and hair loss into consideration we discussed his goals and came upon an agreement for a surgical plan that would suite his expectations. During the procedure, I was careful to reconstruct a hairline that would be suitable for him now and as he continued to age. A total of 2,747 grafts were used in the frontal 1/2 of his head. These are his results the day of procedure and 1-year post-op. The patient is extremely happy with his results at this point.

  7. 5BetaReductase , The grafts are harvested from the occipital area due the quality of the hairs in that area matching the quality of the varying hairs in the hairline area. By harvesting in different vertical regions of the occipital area one can harvest grafts of varying diameter. Zone 3 in the occipital area is ideal for thinner hairs whereas hair from Zone 1 or 2 are more robust and used to replace thicker hairs. See this link from the NIH regarding the vertical regions of the occipital area: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5533061/

  13. JohnAC71, It is typical to mix in multi-hair grafts into the hairline but I use a majority of single hair follicular units to give it a natural look. You can’t use all single hair follicular units as that isn’t a naturally occurring state anywhere on your scalp. Since the patient has less than 6 months of growth, you can expect some single hairs to fill in around the two-hair graft. Can this patient post additional photos, before the surgery so everyone can see what we were dealing with due to it being corrective work. If you don’t have any before photos, let Stuart know and he can send you some.
  14. This 23-year-old gentleman had a hair loss pattern of a class 4v on the Hamilton Norwood hair loss scale. His goal was to rebuild his hairline and add density to the frontal 1/2 of his scalp. I used 1,130 single hair follicular units which allowed me to create a very natural hairline. This action will allow him to comb his hair without anyone detecting that he has had anything done. These are his results 7 months post-op. His results will continue to improve over the next 5-8 months. I have also posted pictures from the day of procedure and 6 weeks post-op pictures. 17. Dr. Khokhar, Melvin, Hairlosscpa, stephcurry30, SLA thank you for the nice comments. Aamir and 5Betareductace I use the Harris S.A.F.E. machine to extract the grafts. I usually use anywhere from a .7-.9 punch size depending on the type of hair the patient has in his donor area. I used a .9 punch with this patient and he would be able to go down to a #1 guard if he ever chose too. He is not presently taking Propecia.
