  1. Thanks for posting I'm also interested in seeing how this works out for you. You may know this already but hair grows at about 1/2 inch per month and each grade on the clipper is 1/8 of an inch. So it takes approximately 1 week for hair to grow from a #2 to a #3. So a week after you shaved to a #2 you'll know what a #3 looks like. As you said it is a little too early to fully assess your situation as the redness should still subside a little. The jagged looking hairline looks a little like you are still recovering from shockloss although at 6.5 months this seems unlikely. Ultimately you may have to FUE into the scar and the jagged area to allow yourself to shave so short, and you may have to compromise to a #3. I don't know if 500 FUE will be enough for this and to do additional work on the hairline. The advice I saw about dermmatch is that it is better to go lighter rather than darker as it won't be so noticeable even if it is not a perfect match. Please keep us updated like you I don't see many guys post on this. And good luck.
  2. Dr Devroye has a system of doing the photos like you suggest. I think this gives a good idea of the areas that could be covered but not necessarily of the density that can be acheived. I certainly wouldn't rely too heavily on any such photos, especially if it looks like it is giving you thick coverage all over. On the other hand, for some people it might help to shape their expectations of what can be acheived especially if it is done by an ethical and highly-skilled Dr.
  3. Have you got any photos of HT2 on your profile? Did you just aim for more density or specific areas?
  4. It depends on your NW level and age but I'm guessing you are a low NW or you would not be asking about a small session. If you haven't done strip before then I would say for small sessions you should be considering FUE up to at least 2000 or even more if you can afford a multi-day FUE session. Strip will leave a more noticeable scar which will limit how short you can shave. This might not seem like a big deal, but if you end up being unhappy with the results then you might end up wishing you could shave down pretty short. There have been a few threads recently of guys in this situation.
  5. It looks like you have really thick hair and the scar does not seem to have stretched so it looks like you are headed for a pleasing result.
  6. I think that both myself and Leeson have made clear that we don't believe due to the risks of being an atheist. Indeed to do this would be to be insincere as Acrobaz pointed out. You also admit that is it your subjective interpretation of all forms of religion that has made you decide that none are credible. However, you then go on to make some objective claims that religion is the . First of all the facts are that the most murderous regimes in history were atheists generally bent on destroying religion. Look at Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Chang Kai Shek and Hitler. The biggest four mass murderers of the 20th century. According to the German magazine Bild they were responsible for over 120 million deaths between them, and no one could dispute that the figure is in the tens of millions. Secondly, I think it is wrong to label all religions as the same just as much as it is wrong to label all political ideologies as the same. Fascism and Democracy are very different. As a Christian I try to follow the teachings of Jesus who said "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." If everyone tried to do this then there would be a lot less atrocities not more. Like anything in life religion can be abused by people who are seeking their own ends. Hair transplantation is a good example. In certain cases done well it can make a positive difference to a person but abused by unethical selfish people wanting to make money it can cause a lot of harm. Also I do believe that people who are not religious can have morals, integrity, honesty, or true human compassion. (I don't believe anyone living on earth today displays those things perfectly.) I can see from some of your other posts for example that you have been kind enough to complement other guys on the results they acheived and been supportive of people going through the process. Are the MIT physicists you mentionned mentally flawed? Unlike Pascal in his wager Jesus did not primarily threaten God's wrath but brought a message of hope and God's forgiveness and healing to people.
  7. Sorry I know this is an old post but I wanted to check if this is correct. My understanding was that you had to let a scar heal before planting into it.
  8. Dr Lindsey I was interested to read this, I haven't heard this mentionned before. Is there any particular technique to this? I guess a lot of guys myself included would be nervous not to stretch the scar by doing it wrong. I imagine it is very different but I know laxity exercises should wait at least 6 months post-op.
  9. Rassman states in the article PGP linked: A coarser hair will have three or four times the volume (visual effect) than a fine hair with less bulk to it. I think it would be fair to say that a lot of photos of "great results" are with patients whose hair is not fine.
  10. Pascal's wager has 2 elements as I see it, Pratchett makes an amusing satire of the weaker internal element by showing that the motivation for a given belief is important not just the belief held. However, the external element Pascal is talking about involves the risk/reward of belief in God vs unbelief based on whether God actually does exist or not. In this second regard I think Pascal makes a good point. Anyway, I'm not really here to defend Pascal. Unlike the flying spaghetti monster, Leeson would no doubt say that his faith is based on Jesus Christ, a historical person for whom there is very strong evidence that he did in fact exist.
  11. Dude I'm sorry to hear about how this worked out for you but I was surprised when you said you could still get down to a #5. Plenty of guys with a scar above the ridge can't go any lower than this, and in some cases even at this level the scar still shows. Any HT decision is a big one in your life and so I would definitely not rush into any alterations at this stage. At the moment you just have to let the scar heal.
  12. It should take 12-18 months for you to see the full effects of propecia. After a HT hair would start to grow around 3-4 months but you would not see the full results until closer to 1 year. A Hair Transplant is a decision that you cannot reverse and you should think long and hard before you go ahead especially because you may need future transplants to keep up with continued hair loss. Even if you think propecia is working for you now, there is no guarantee the effects will not wear off. Hair Transplants do work but if you look around you will find quite a few threads where patients are not satisfied with the density that can be acheived. Also there is a constant need to keep up medications after the event.
  13. It sounds like you used too much, it takes practice. For me I found dermmatch much more effective than nanogen in concealing the donor scar because it was mixed in and covered with other hair. I wouldn't try it on the hairline or in areas that are very sparse. You might find in the end you still prefer nanogen but don't dismiss dermmatch straight off.
  14. There are some big factors that have an influence on this. First, how thick are your individual hairs? How much colour contrast is there between your hair and your scalp. Thick with no contrast is best, thin with a big contrast is not so good.
  15. Slaps I have a suggestion, bin it if you don't think it helps but why not lighten your hair considerably? Or get some highlights which will add some other contast? It sounds like the issue is that the transplanted hairs don't look the same as the rest of your hair which is a uniform colour and dark. Making the rest of your hair less uniformly coloured and lighter might help while you wait out the next few months?
  16. I believe that the hairs can look kinky at this stage but that the softening process should mean that by 12-18 months they will resemble non-transplanted hair and will have lost the "funky look".
  17. Judge - I'm sorry to hear things haven't worked out. Blaming yourself is not a good idea. I'm sorry the #1 hasn't worked out hopefully it might look better at #2 or #3 especially with nanogen and/or dermmatch. Like LMS I totally hear what you are saying. Remember there are options which have been mentionned here and some which haven't.
  18. Dude I would get a second opinion. You can do strip and FUE but if you are going to do both it is better, in general, to do all the strip first. Even if you can only get 3000 this time with strip you might well be able to get another 2000 or perhaps a little more with strip twelve months later. The reason strip is better first is because a higher % of grafts will survive (plus is tends to be cheaper) and more can be acheived in one sitting. It would help if you could post a bit more information about your situation. Age, NW level, is this your first surgery?
  19. I think you'd be much better off using dermmatch or possibly both together. I haven't used toppik but I have used nanogen which is very similar and I personally found it did not stay on as well as dermmatch especially not when water was involved. This is an ongoing debate and there are plenty of other posts you can find using the forum's find function.
  20. Beemark, thanks for the photos. Looking close the hair looks good but I'm not sure if I can see where they are attached. As I said in my previous post I don't have any personal experience of systems but I can't see the harm in experimenting with one for a while, you can always get a HT later if you want. Also a HT is not a 100% cast-iron guarantee that it will always look natural. If you look around you'll see plenty of posts about how lighting and/or the growing-in process both can make people feel their own HT looks less than 100% natural.
  21. My understading is that below the occipital (sp?) ridge there is more risk of scarring due to lower collagen so many doctors would not want to go into that area. However, since one has already gone there it is possible that a scar excision could help but I'm not sure that any outcome would be at all certain. Anyway, I am not an expert, hopefully you'll get some docs to comment on your situation, quite a few do chip in on the forum. Is it 9mm the whole way or just at the worst point? How long a section of the scar are you concerned about? e.g. 6cm, 10cm etc What is your age, level of loss, would you plan future transplant procedures? Depending on the answers to these questions FUE or a separate higher strip transplanting into the scar could be an option although it might take a lot of grafts.
  22. I'm no expert about hair pieces but I believe that they can look undetectable and can be made age appropriate on the hairline. Also bear in mind that this is a hair transplant forum so you are most likely to get advice saying that HT is the way to go. if you even start considering a HT make sure you do absolutely loads of research to be sure you understand what can be expected and the risks. With a HT there is no way back but with a hair piece you can always take it off.
