  1. Hey Tim, Though I can't speak to the side effects issue, I would go to a MWF schedule for your wallet if nothing else! I've been on the schedule Dr. Cooley recommends for a year and a half now and it seems to be working just as well. Brian
  2. In researching HTs last year, I learned that the transplanted hairs continue to mature and thicken up to 12 or even 18 months post-op. I'm at about 6.5 months post-op now. Any idea how much I can expect the existing new hairs to thicken between now and 12/18 months? 100%, 50%, 25% etc. thicker?

  4. I'm nearly at the 6 month mark as well. It looks like most, if not all, of the hairline hairs have sprouted and are about 2 inches or so long...they go back about 3.4 of an inch or so. Behind the hairline, the hairs are playing catch up. For those of you 1+ year post-op, did any of you experience the same growth pattern...hairline in first and slowly filling in towards the back later?
  5. I had a HT back in December of 08 and am starting to see some significant growth. It looks like my hairline is filling in quite a bit, but there's sparser growth behind it. Anyone else have this particular pattern of graft growth?

  7. I'm just over 2 months post-op. About a month ago, shedding of the transplanted hairs seemed to stop. There are quite a few of the transplanted hairs that continued to grow and have gotten about an inch or so long. I noticed some stubbly hairs and wondered if they were transplants waiting to shed or transplanted hairs that had already shed growing back for good. I tugged gently on one with a tweezer and it seemed firmly rooted. I tugged another and it slipped right out. My question is this: when the transplanted hair have shed, gone through telogen and start the growing phase again, are they firmly rooted in the scalp, or is it possible to dislodge them simply by scratching your head or putting on a hat?

  9. I've read that MSM can speed up hair growth. Anyone know if it shortens the telogen phase following a hair transplant? Meaning, will regrowth after the initial shedding start sooner than average when taking this supplement?

  11. I had a HT by Dr. Cooley 5 weeks ago. My roommate, who is a pharmacy tech with no real experience taking out sutures, took mine out with no problem 3 weeks ago. I'd advise against the dissolvable kind as everyone's body is different and there's no telling how quickly or slowly your body will dissolve them.
  12. I've read that after a month or two the transplanted hairs start to grow. Is that a month or two from the procedure date, or is it measured from the point that most of the hairs have shed? I've noticed a couple pimples on my scalp in the recipient area and wonder if this could be the start of the growing phase. I had my procedure about 4 and a half weeks ago.

  14. My doc said I should wash my hair with soapy water from a cup for the first 6 days, and then start massaging the recipient area on the 7th day. He also told me to be sure to keep the donor area clean, to scrub it really good even if it was sore to wash off any scabs and keep new ones from forming.
  15. As to number 1, I had my HT with Dr. Cooley in Charlotte, NC. Great experience. As to number 2, Dr. Cooley excised a 20cm x 1.5 cm strip and I never really experience any tightness after the first day. I have average to below average donor laxity and the strip yielded nearly 2200 grafts, so maybe you can use this as a comparison in your research.
  16. You should probably go see a dermatologist.
  17. My doc placed the grafts on the right side of my head and his tech placed the grafts on the left side. My ride side seems to be shedding faster than the left side. Any reason for this? Also, does early shedding on the right side mean it's going to grow back sooner on this side?

  19. I don't know if that's a figure anyone can come up with. Would depend on several variables, including number of grafts, donor density and laxity. Some folks may have a short strip for a small session, some strips go ear to ear for larger sessions. For comparison purposes, I had a procedure of 2000 grafts. With a donor density of about 85 fu/cm2 and average donor laxity, the strip was 20cm long and 1.5 cm wide (ended up being 2193 grafts).
  20. My doc asked for a $500 deposit to book the procedure date with the balance due in full two weeks before the procedure date.
  21. It's normal for most or all of the transplanted hairs to shed. I had my procedure on the 22nd of December as well and I started to notice shedding yesterday. The follicles go into a resting phase for a month or two and will then start to grow again.
  22. I just had a 2200 graft procedure with Dr. Cooley 9 days ago and would recommend him. I'm from Nashville and travelled to Charlotte after lots of research.
  23. If I remember correctly from my consultation, Dr. Cooley has had three full procedures and a fourth touch up that was performed by his staff.
